  1. That is called drawing conclusions.. anyways, it's acually not far off the 980 for being on very early drivers...
  2. where did they say it would be better than 980? you sure this isn't just what was hyped up?
  3. At this point i don't know what to do.. i wont buy 1070 at this price, but RX 480 is not enough for me.. i think i'll wait it out, and if the price drops before Vega i will go Team Green again..
  4. You will have to decide, but if i was buying a new card, id pay a little extra for the new features..
  5. skip jumping to conclusions.. Give it some time before jumping on anything.. I would not take a 980 or 970 over this yet.
  6. I might be in this boat too.. Dunno.. Probably will go for a RX490 instead if it ever comes. I have a strange feel that amd will be sucessful.. Probably a very unhealthy condition that i have.
  7. This is not "someone", we are a team, and this is a team project. I think you know this :) I think we definately do understand where you are coming from, but there are several reasons why we're doing this as a free mod. Mostly because this is our hobby and we wouldn't like to feel that we have responsibility of putting it out as a final product. That is only one of the arguements as to why we have not made it that way. If we were to put this up with full systems and flight model for, lets say, 20usd below any other aircraft i can see how this could be problematic. However, this is a free mod that is unsupported by ED and so i don't think this should impact sales or prices of licensed 3rd parties :) EDIT: You got an answer above, but i'll leave this here
  8. Thanks for the support everyone. We really appreciate it :)
  9. Time will tell, im sure they know the challenges.
  10. It's all bullshit untill they deliver. I do not trust either of these companies as the whole point is for them to make it look so much better than what it acually is.. I'll let people test them and then i'll see if i go Nvidia or AMD..
  11. Good card still, never ever regret a purchase.. It will haunt you, be happy with what you got.. 980 wont be useless over the night probably will just be less current in a few years.. Im stil running 670, so theres that.
  12. This ^ How did you find the r9 390 btw? Working good? Im looking into possibly getting one cheap when new series is out or spend too much on one of the new ones. 670 just doesnt cut it anymore..
  13. 980 is not good performance for price atm. Like stated earlier, you would be paying 500usd for a card that might be matched even with the r9 390 in dx12 or vulkan, and will surely be quite the step down from next gen 1070 and whatever corresponding amd card. Be careful with current Nvidia cards, not because they are bad, they are the most efficient cards on dx11, but because they lack the ability to get a boost from async compute (not built for it and not capable of doing it)
  14. Not going to start a NV vs. AMD gpu, but do go ahead and reseaech a bit. NV is a good choise for dx 11, but cannot do dx12 (well.. Can do, but no gain. Nvidia is good, but if you are looking at a gtx970 go ahead and look at the r9 390 aswell.
  15. Im not sure if ED wants to go to dx12.. They would have to spend quite some resources to utilize it as dx12 performance is much more dependant on how the developers utilize it. Essentially, they get more control and performance, but at the cost of more work. I sure hope they will, though
  16. If you know you are simply not going to play any new games that migh utilize dx12, vulkan etc. You can take it chill. However, if you are in the 970 range you might ad well get the r9 390 istead as it is +- the same price, mlre future proof and better performance even in most dx11 games. I really only know this area of GPU's, so 960 vs 380 i would not know. 980ti is probably the best performing card on dx11. Consider it.. You might want to hold off.
  17. don't buy video card yet, and be warned that none of the nvidia cards can do async compute (major factor in next gen API's). You might see R9 390's, 280x's etc pulling away from you on newer dx12 or vulkan games... nvidia says it's something they can do with drivers, but that's bull***.. their current cards simply do not have the hardware to be able to utilize this feature. just hold off and see what's coming up. and at wors you'll get a current gen card even cheaper then..
  18. if you are up for current gen gpu's get amd if you want anything less than GTX 980ti AMD gpu's much more future proof than Nvidia currently with new API's utilizing async compute (something that AMD has had for a long time because of mantle, but nvidia does not have yet) Tests on some dx12 games show that R9 390 beats the gtx 970 (even more than in dx11), and r9 390x sometimes even gets close to the 980ti In dx11 R9 390 is still more powerful than the 970, but the difference is smaller. I'd only reccomend nvidia if you really just want the top line card (980ti), 980 vs r9 390x is also debateable if you are only going to be running dx11 untill next pc upgrade. (hi x-plane, i see you're upgrading to Vulkan (async compute)) Honestly, just wait.. jusne is set up for releases on both sides, and at worst you will just get a current series card for alot cheaper than right now..
  19. tbh i would rather have a sligtly less powerful next generation this time thn buy an older one as this is a big step in gpu tech. At least with nvidia, the technology in place for vulkan and dx12 is not really possible with the gtx 9xx series. (async compute i mean). But if you must, get the R390 (developed with mantle in mind, will work well with dx12 and vulkan too) over the gtx970, but if you just want the top end id say gtx980ti is still usually going to be better right now than amd. Might be different on dx12 or mantle, but not much.
  20. For the love of god, if you want a new card in the same range your old one was. Hold off for now. And do not go for SLI, less games support that now, and it really brings more trouble than advantages. Personally, im holding off in hopes for a new amd card this year, i've had enough of nvidias drivers already, and it seems like AMD is more focused on bringing gaming cards than what nvidia is doing. AMD is owning most if not all of the gaming consoles gpu's, and their cards have already supported async compute for quite some time (DX12, vulkan, mantle) unlike even the gtx 9xx series.. It is quite dissapointing really that they market a series of cards as DX12 ready, without one of it's most important features.
  21. Looks great.. Any olans to do some clickable switches
  22. Oh god something happend. Time to go all crazy and loose all faith in resolving problems in a version that states "alpha".
  23. Great to hear. Im not against such changes
  24. What some of us fear is that the new IC will only allow ED supported content, i.e this will be the only texture mod that will work on most servers. ED as far as i know has yet to comment on this.
