  1. Thanks! That’s what I was think. Unfortunately I changed my topic question and post altogether so my apologies. But yeah, I think your right. Anyways, see new topic as posted, and thanks.
  2. I have a friend who is for the first time in his life thinking of getting into flight simming. He says he’s getting a bit burnt out on the console games and wants to come back over to the PC. Even talking about upgrading his graphics card to a 1070Ti. I’m thinking of IL2 definitely for him for starters as he seems to have to have no interest in WW1 flight, which in my opinion, would be a little more suited for him for beginning with but oh well. Plus you can ‘dumb down’ the realism settings in IL2 in order to keep the frustration factor low in the beginning but still have the pucker factor of fast paced furballs. In so far as jumping into DCS 2.5 world of flight, I’m thinking a good natural starting point would be the SU-25 as it’s a package deal but also perhaps a good starting point to learn the various advance weapons systems as compared to a WW2 aircraft. (He’s flown DCS World on my system once and was telling our mutual friend how much he thought of it). I know if he takes to flight simming he’ll want to jump right into an F-15 or the new Hornet but the catch is his frustration level. I believe the steeper learning curve/frustration level would overcome any desire to fly anymore and that would be the end of it. Anyone’s two cents would be appreciated as I don’t know if my so-called “strategy” on this is even on target or not. I guess the gist is I’d really like to see him come over to the PC flight sim world as he’s the type of guy who would I think have a blast, but don’t want him to reach the level of frustration in learning stuff that he just returns his stick and peddles and gives up altogether and goes back to the point and click shooters. Am I on base with this or no? I’ll thank everyone in advance, as always! :)
  3. I know this is an older OP topic but thought I’d give my two cents anyways. I’ve had he same CH Combatstick and CH rudder pedals for God knows how long. Since they don’t require drivers knock on wood, I’ve never ever had a problem using either and that’s going through 3 custom rig builds I’ve done and I don’t remember how many Windows versions. The rudder pedals to this day are smooth as silk and the Combatstick was an upgrade to the original stick they came out with. Have never had other one apart for any reason. Never have needed to. I fly DCS, IL2 and XPlane 11 exclusively with them both and have never had an issue. Granted, some of the axis needed to be reversed but big deal. The only thing I shyed away from was the CH Products Control Manager software. It always seemed to give me more problems than it was worth. Many will disagree with me on that but that’s just been my experience with it.
  4. So it’s my understanding that aircraft carriers in DCS 2.5 indeed have pitching decks then, from what I have read here. I guess I could go online and do some Russian a/c to find out. The rolling deck wouldn’t so much faze me as a vastly pitching deck would. In some of the real life vids I’ve watched on the more noticeable days when a pitching deck was present a lot of the F-18’s were given wave offs. I agree though, setting the sea perimeters would be kinda nice beyond just the weather perimeters. Calm, rough, etc. and perhaps the sim would adjust the weather/winds appropriately as swells perhaps work in unison with the weather? The one vid I watched had the carrier doing some pretty heavy pitching during landing procedures but the weather as filmed on deck seemed really nice. I guess carrier location on the seas and ocean swells play a big part in it. Does anybody have a vid from on deck of a carrier in DCS which shows the amount of pitching?
  5. Good vids. From them I take it the carrier(s) themselves have no pitch or roll? From the deck cam they appear to be as steady as a rock.
  6. Eternal Beta Congrats. One of the reasons I don’t bite on aircraft as soon as they are released is the bugs aren’t worked out until way, way after initial release, some if even then on some aircraft. Hence the “eternal beta rut”. I give them two thumbs up on fighting against the eternal beta approach. Seems like in DCS it’s more or less the norm for releases to be in beta mode for what seems like an eternity. Personally, I’d rather have a finished product before they shove their resources into the next greatest thing. Finish baking what you’ve got first before running off to find another recipe to make - whatever the hell that means. No disrespect to the OP. Always fun to dream tho.
  7. Updated to latest sound drivers, no luck. It's a bug. Cut out occurs whether doing Mach 1 or lower. Doesn't matter.
  8. Yeah...I think waiting going on three years is pretty patient, regardless.
  9. Just as the title says, while flying the SU-33 and the F-15C in cockpit the sound never cuts out. However, when the aircraft is viewed using the default F2 and F3 keys at some point the sound will stop. After a random amount of time (say 15 seconds or so) the sound will kick back in. Sometimes you can hear it start and stop for a fraction of a second like its trying to get started again before it "takes hold" and acts normally. It's a random effect. Interestingly enough, I tried before logging on this morning flying the F-86 around and the F-5E and could not duplicate it in the 15 minutes or so of flying in external modes. I understand the Doppler thing but that should have nothing to do with pacing the aircraft externally using the F2 key. Jumping back into the cockpit and cycling back outside doesn't seem to help - the sound will "catch up" in its own time. I'm wondering if this is more of a system thing rather than a bug since I don't see a plethora of posts about it. I was running DCS version 1.5.5 at the time. "Sliders" most all to the right. My rig is running W10 latest software updates 64 bit. My graphics card is the 780ti but the driver I had to go to the 368.81 build due to the latest driver having an issue with BOS. 16GB of DDR5 installed along with the i7-5930k chip running stock 3.5GHz. Has anybody else experienced these symptoms? UPDATE: Hmmm...noticed while flying the Nevada DCS 2.xxx that while viewing some aircraft using the F2 key and mouse to pan around the AI aircraft the sound is there if rotated towards the engines, but cuts out completely if the camera is rotated about 90 degrees away from it. Sounds like a bug, at least for this example (which may or may not be related to my issue).
  10. Ugh. No keys shown at all. Shows product purchased, even clicked on the product in the details page, tells me I already own it. "Order #388990 of 20-01-2017 Order status Completed Order has been sent or completed (for orders with serial numbers) Amount $72.00 Transaction N388990D2017xxxxxxxxx..."
  11. Tried to submit a support ticket THREE times for this and have given up. Each time after I copy and paste the stupid Star Farce log error report, the web page starts running slowly then doesn't respond at all. Upon recovery of course all my info is wiped out. Hence the post here as I'm stuck for help... Installed the 2.xxx first, then ordered the bundle with Nevada and installed. Ordered the bundle entitled "F-5E + F-5E ABFM Campaign + Nevada". Everything seemed to have downloaded and installed fine. When I went to use the F-5E in Nevada to check things out I got the activation key from the module manage and it accepted it, no problems. Bird is apparently ready to go. Then things went downhill as usual from there. The Nevada terrain asked for the key activation - the module manager shows "no key" listed for it. The module manager also shows "no key" for the F-5E mission pack. Any ideas on this? It's 4:30am so getting a little frustrated so my apologies. It's probably something simple on my end but guess my head isn't in the game at this point (pun intended). Thanks people in advance. Giving up for now...yawn...:helpsmilie: Jeff
  12. F-4E w/slats F-105 Thud Maybe a Wild Weasel variant too?
  13. Wow. Can't wait, but guess we're gonna have to! That and the F-18 for carrier ops will keep things VERY interesting.
  14. Damn cancer. Those few who know me here know I can relate to this story. Another sad chapter in an individual's life that's yet to be solved. One single cell in an individual's body begins the process of self destruction and all the medical minds in the world are still confounded over it. I'm at the point I really don't know if they'll ever figure this crap out. Regardless, you're soaring with the eagles now. Perhaps someday we will cross paths again. You will be missed. Jeff
  15. Going way back on this thread, agree with the OP. Seems the Jug takes a backseat to most other aircraft in WW2, however the P-47D I have a great fondness for. Too bad no recent news of development on it, but getting the new theater out is just as important and I hope this is continuing. Also, unlike probably most here, like the P-47, it seems the ol' B-24 always is overshadowed by the tail dragging B-17. If the Europe '44 theater was out and the B-24 was released as a personal aircraft I really think this would be my "go to" aircraft for WW2 along with the Jug. What others would consider boring I would find challenging while watching the missions completed emblems start piling up on the fuselage while maintaining a high percentage of bombing hits on targets. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread but figured while we were on the subject of overlooked aircraft...
  16. Holy crappers. In my day it was the original G.I. Joe with that little scar on his cheek, Lincoln Logs and Matchbox cars. Never got started with the Legos but I seem to remember dinking around with some round wooden blocks of wood with holes drilled all around and wooden colored dowels that you would insert to create, well, "stuff" I guess. Mentioning "Lego" in my mind creates images of the old school Lego sets - chunky, boxy looking stuff - then I noticed the over 3,100 pieces included in your kit! Seriously? Geez, am I out of touch. I'm all for adults goin back and enjoying the things in their past that used to give them joy and reliving them over once again. Kudos to you and post some pics of this massive self assigned commitment when your done! But most of all, enjoy!
  17. Thanks guys! Yeah, being 54 I had planned to be around for a good number of years and would like to continue to do so - I still have a lot to learn now with all of DCS's functionalities and several handfuls of aircraft! I had just built my new rig before the bomb was dropped on me in 2014, so now is catch up time. After I was diagnosed as in total remmision the wife and I asked my one oncologist point blank about the outlook for my survival he responded "...many, many years" which of course, in my interpretation, isn't a normal lifespan. So gloom and doom be damned, I'm just enjoying each day I have and putting the 'throttle thought the firewall' and not living in the future. I focus on the here and now and try to enjoy the hobbies I always have had in the past, and particularly have an even deeper respect for the old adage "the best things in life are free"...family, friends and all the people who's paths I cross and yet will never get to know on a personal level, such as those here on the forums. Well, my brother is in town and I know I'm going to get chastised for not knowing how to operate and fly the P-51D or F-15 so I'd better wrap up and do my best in crash course learning! Be well everyone.
  18. Several of you on here may have remembered me from 2014-2015. I made a small quip in a post how I had been out of the flight simming community (or any computing at all for that matter) due to an illness, that being diagnosed with MM stage III cancer in late 2014. Needless to say, I didn't expect the response that I received as I didn't intend to make an issue of it. Well, I'm still here and in complete remission, which simply means it's undetectable. But so long as one single cell remains, I still will have it. I'll be on low dose chemo throughout 2016 (Revlimid if you care to Google it!). I just accept each day as a gift and try to enjoy it. I have been practicing with the Russian attack aircraft provided in DCS. My hands still have "good" and "not so good days" still but much less shaking than before as the Revlimid was reduced from 25mg off and on to 10mg every day. I also have been testing myself with Rise of Flight and the good news is I seem to be pretty steady and got my landings back. Not bad I must say, using those rudder peddles sure helps too! Been banging around in World of Warships also for hand/eye concentration as well. I have yet to tackle any of the heavier stuff like F-15, SU-27, etc. But it's all on my bucket list now. Anyways, I REALLY WANTED TO SAY THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO SENT THEIR PRAYERS, WISHES AND KIND WORDS AND EVEN SOME GOODIES my way during the roughest days of my life. IT REALLY DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE. My wife Debbra even spread the stories of how generous and caring people were on this forum that have never even met me. Restored faith and hope in humanity in both of us. Anyway, without further ranting, a huge "thank you" to all of you on this forum and I wish nothing but the best for you and yours this coming year in 2016! Bless you all. You can always PM me too if I can be of any help to any of you also! I'd be proud to try. :) Check Six! Jeff Barner aka mrmertz
  19. I left post kinda running a bit of a rant for ED as an option to haul over the market to them in the general aviation genre. I whole heartedly agree that in MY BOOK there really isn't a GA sim that's worth the money nor the idea of spending more time patching than flying becomes as it becomes a bit too much over time. The engines on some of these GA sims are really outdated. Yeah, the market is ripe for somebody to jump in there BUT I do like the fact too that ED is sticking with putting out high quality and accurate FM's of military aircraft for us, especially exciting to see them branch off into different eras (WW2 my fave) just adds to my support. Perhaps in the future come out with a separate studio under ED's rule dedicated just to a worldwide GA/commercial airline sim? Who knows. Just thoughts.
  20. Here's all I know. 1. I purchased a bunch of aircraft including Combined Arms (okay, "modules") directly through DCS at their store. 2. Transaction went through them all fine, printed receipt. 3. Entered mailing address, name, etc. and each appeared to check the computer they were being loaded too such as hardware and some such stuff. 4. Upon examining the Module Manager it shows under "installed" tab everything checked, with serial numbers listed to the right, except for my Hawk (which was gifted) and of course the SU-25 and the TF-51D that are free. 5. All I did was start DCS, it checked for updates, saw that there was one, did the auto updates and right after window after window began to pop up asking for all the serial numbers once again for every module purchased. This is right after the update, not creating a mission or going training or anything like that. Wow. On my other flight sim 777 RoF you just purchase the aircraft, if there are updates to the sim it does it and your done and go flying with the aircraft you have purchased. Done. Shouldn't DCS after it approves the purchase and downloads the module and assigns it to your computer even after activating the module already know it's yours whether there's an update or not? I guess I have no clue as to how they have their software activation/assognments operate. Oh well, not looking forward to another update....15 minutes of inputting the same serial numbers again, and again....!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhh! Pardon typos...thanks ladies and gents.
  21. Is this normal? It keeps using my activations up. I though purchasing and originally having the key codes entered through the store would log them within DCS somewheres in association to my computer. Guess not. Is there something I failed to enter when purchased? All the codes showed up when purchased to the right of the modules. Just a pain to have to keep re entering codes once there is an update. Thanks.
  22. Now I have heard some on this 104th server. Is that the designated multiplayer server or something beyond that. I also saw a post that only certain aircraft are "certifed" to fly on it. Just curious. I have much to learn. Thanks Buddy! mrmertz
  23. I must say I love Rise of Flight for its era. Having another WW1 sim come out I would not jump at all. 777 seems to really listen to its customers and cruise the forums as their updates are quite frequent. Now the BOS is out of the way for them they are back on full swing too with RoF and have some sort of big announcement concerning ROF and whatever they have up their sleeves for 2015. Not releasing details so have no clue. I own every plane with them plus the packs. Also have that new Russian aircraft too. Whatta beast. I still marvel at how those guys flew those things with nothing but canvas, wire and sticks holding it altogether - and no chutes. But no, not saying it couldn't be done in DCS but with moden jets, Vietnam era items coming onboard, sea born theaters of operations via the F-18 Suoer Hornet, the WW2 module theater and map with various planes modules ever increasing, I'd say they have their hands full for quite a long time, particularly if they want us to stay fully immersed and in these planes AND have realistic theaters of engagements to do so, which means more work and modules. I think realistic theaters to fly in is important along with era AI enemy and objectives with era targets of opportunity. Flying a P-47D around Georigia or a P-51 without having German railway yards and period houses and factories for perhaps those B-17 and oil raids for the B-24's to get jiggly wit it just doesn't seem to fit right. They are probably more than well aware of 777 reputation with RoF so that would already represent comperition out of the gates. But with the stuff DCS is putting out concerning the types of planes and their realistic FM's and complexities and eras of flight nobody but nobody has anything close out there in the market - at least in my book. Now, if they really wanted to jump into a hornets nest have them take on a route down the commercial/civilian aviation road in which is currently being run by a major company who bought the rights to the ever increasing MSFX which is on continued life support after God knows how long they keep patching the decades old engine it runs on, go for it. Plus, license forbids it to be used for "home entertainment" or such. Then you would see a HUGE influx of people turning towards DCS just to get away from the aged MSFS world. I myself flew it and really do miss the civilian flying too but couldn't stand spending more time getting the things to run right with literally hundreds of patches and tweeks and spend more time hair pulling than I literally did flying. Nothing like figuring out runway alignments coming into JFK at night with all those lights and heavy traffic or planing an around the world flight in a small civilian craft. And so far as the other known civilian flight sim out there when it would come to the details of FM, well once again DCS in my book has no competion there either. Just read the forums. But just my two cents. Not flaming anyone, just saying if years down the road they decided to stick their foot in another big project (yeah, it means modeling the entire globe) I see it as a wide open opportunity too yet for them to capitalize on. But for now I'd like them to continue reinvesting their time on projects already in the works to make them even better for us before tackling yet another era let alone what I just mentioned. Developing a modern day commercial/civilian air traffic module would be a huge undertaking but man I just couldn't imagine how it would be if they did! Talk about total realism...as long as they could get the ATC right too...very critical in MSFSX.
  24. Thanks. I'm going to cut her loose on the rig downstairs first with the SU-25T, walk through slowly the training step by step and see how she takes to it. Who knows? If she can get through all the basic flying okay and still shows an interest once she learns how to use the weapons systems then I KNOW she'll be "in" as having the ability to blow targets up and with the graphics and all she'l be hooked at that point. She is definitely a tomboy. Then that's when I'll invest in another set of CH stuff with F-16 Fighter stick and rudder peddles. Possibly even a newer graphics card but that all cost money and we all know tax time is looming...which I'm not crazy about. I'll keep you guys posted for fun just to see how this big experiment goes with her as I think this all came about after my two friends used to be online with me gaming every weekend but since the cancer thing they seem to have drifted off to other ventures. Don't know why, but oh well. So I guess she wants to try to fill their shoes so to speak. Shakey Out! mrmertz
