The Hornet is not only the most gorgeous plane of all, it is also very well developed, it's systems are logical and easy to use and it's insanely capable in everything you need to do. In DCS it actually comes close to feeling like a one man air force.

While I played tons of Falcon 4 and BMS back in the day, I am *so glad* to got rid of the F-16 and it's ridiculously illogical and convoluted avionics. Everything is complicated in that thing, the tiny MFDs with their bad layouts and strange logical paths are just so off-putting once you had the chance to use the Hornet's. And don't get me started on it's weird use of SPI & CZ necessities.

I do like the A-10 because of the rule of cool, and while it's systems are a bit weird as well at leasts it's concept of SPI generation is way ahead of the Viper.

I personally also don't find that non-FBW planes have anything in offer in terms of "soul", that is just a non-issue to me. The need to constantly trim and watch out for peculiarities is not engaging to me, it is just tedious. We arrived at a modern age and I want to use modern tools. The whole "flying" part of things is "meh" to me, doesn't differ from a Cessna 172 a lot anyway. Systems management is what makes me interested in flight sims (which is why I also enjoy airliner sims a lot - programming an FMS is one of my favorite things to do), and the Hornet's systems are second to none in DCS, only the Mud Hen comes close (you can feel the manufacturer's genes here).

A-10 weird systems....???? Man..... If I'm flying somewhere and get lost, I choose Func - Nav (2) on the UFC, choose Divert on the CDU and voila, a list of airbases is there... How much I love the F18 (still learning as we speak), it's not possible to make such an easy navigation move. On the other hand, target selection and engaging are a lot more logical on the f18 than in the hawg...

  2. Same here. Two different types: when I exit the game, sometimes I get a small info window which says "DCS has crashed" with options to exit or send report (can't choose anyone of em) and the other way is I keep getting a black screen and when I switch to taskmanager, it says DCS not responding..

  3. Ordered the slew sensor a few weeks ago, and received it today. Very well shipped, professional. Took the instructions and the only gritty thing was getting the old one out; couldn't get in there with my thick fingers. However, I managed, installed, reassembled, calibrated and it works like a charm! Much, much better than the standard one, would recommend this one any time! Very happy customer here; tnx Damien!!

  4. Since last update, my TGP keeps moving from the moment I touch the slew button.

Example: I have it looking straight forward. (btw: I can's see the pipper in the HUD anymore..??). When I used to slew down, and released the slew button, the view/tgp kept looking at the position it was when I released the butten, and stayed looking at that.

Now, when I release the button, the TGP shows "RATES" and it keeps moving, along with the aircraft movement...

Something new, or am I doing something wrong..??

  5. Any movement will do. It's a little less effort if throttles are already above zero, as GTFreeFlyer says, but if you start with them already down in the cut off area, you just need to lift them, push forward and pull them back.

I try to do what GT is saying before loading in, but my memory and my self discipline were left at a bar somewhere in my 20's.

Strange. I never ever had to do that: when I start DCS with the throttles in the cut-off position, it's also the setting in the game. Only thing that is NOT synced when I startup, is the position of the flaps regarding to the position of my TMWH flap selector. Always have to move the flap selector one notch up or down, and it's synced with the game. But throttle setting was always ok...

  6. I haven't flown in a while guys--trying to hold off until F-18 w/ carrier ops. Is the night lighting still completely screwed up in VR w/ DCS 2.5?

I tried flying at night in 2.5 with VR, it is pitch black now. So I guess they got rid of the orange horizon at all times of night.

Deferred shading is the culprit. Turn it off, and night flying is possible again like it is/was in 1.5. If you switch it on, cockpit lighting in most A/C's is ****ed up.

  7. I tried both (with and without Target) on my TMWH (OP uses Cougar, I know). I found out that using Target was a major PITA. Best option is (AFAIC) to disable Target and bind the axis and buttons in the game. Yes, that IS a lot of work, but after you did it, it's easy to load the profile while other A/C's are selected.

Some small things are to be noticed, like inverting the wheelbrakes and stuff like that, but the energy you spend on it in one evening is well worth it.
