  1. They did tell us that. Whether it was just to calm any customer unease or to keep us buying, who knows - I guess at some stage we'll find out for sure, whether in this issue or a future one.
  2. Remember the Hawk? We were told that ED now make it a condition of 3rd party agreements that if the 3rd party is unable to continue development/updates for their modules, ED are privvy to the code in order to do so themselves. Basically, so that we won't be left without a module that we paid for. So RAZ disappearing from DCS doesn't necessarily mean the disappearance of their current modules. If that happens at all. *however, I agree - get the F-16
  3. I remember my first demonstrated 360° roll - I was clinging on to the sides of the cockpit as we went round! Yeah, great memories. By the time SLRs were available I was already serving.
  4. Absolutely - 5AEF was awesome! Flew at RAF Halton and Kinloss. The local airfield runs a couple of Chippies as experience flights - £100 per 20 minutes, up to an hour - which I was trying to get my weight down for (am 3kg over) but then I found out you have to be able to get in the cockpit unassisted and that would be difficult, so gave up on that dream They have a Harvard as well now, maybe that would be easier? Anyway - 1769sqn, Thurso, Caithness. My old man was serving with the US NAVCOMMSTA at Murkle (Forss), so I took the opportunity after being overseas for years before. You forgot the Lee Enfield No.4 rifle and sore shoulders!
  5. It wasn't about release dates - and we are talking about a few years ago when this forum was known for being a pretty toxic place. Also not talking about a mod. He made it as a mod to test etc, but the talk is of full modules for DCS, that was what was mentioned - a dev concentrating on British aircraft and that was what this would have been. PS - look at your own post about 13 pages of ignored users for an excellent example. That's now, as well, when many say the forums are better than before. A dev can't just put them on ignore lists.
  6. We would have had one (a dev specialising in British fighters) - they had a British jet performing nicely in DCS as a private venture (I have some screenshots), but were scared off by the behaviour of the community towards other 3rd party developers. A big shame. I did try hard to persuade them, even though I fully understand their reason for not going ahead with a public release. This is the very first documentary I saw of the Buccaneer, as a 15 year old ATC cadet...
  7. Soviets and USA were not the only forces fighting in Afghanistan. Nor in Iraq. Your post is more about you than about ED's map areas. Your 'fact' is warped.
  8. Hey, you missed the venerable Harrier! Sacrilige! ...and for ideas about exciting, true-to-life missions I strongly suggest this book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002RI9FOA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. I don't doubt you are correct, but my question is "does it really matter that much?"
  10. Have to say that whilst the manual seems to contain all the information required to fly and operate this module, I've had a lot of problems understanding parts of it that seem like they should be fairly simple. Even some non-technical words used had me scratching my head and wondering what on Earth they were trying to say. I think the root cause is the manual not being written or checked by a qualified (meaning their level is up to snuff) native English speaker, because it's not just those problems, it's many sentences just being phrased in a way that doesn't seem right. While there's not much of a big issue with that, it does all add up to a general lack of confidence when trying to read through it - especially when not at the PC, which is when I read most of my DCS manuals (in waiting rooms, in the car waiting for Mrs, in bed etc etc). It's also by far not just this module that I noticed this with, so it's not peculiar to the Aerges product. I did English voice-overs for the L-39 training missions and I can tell you, at times I didn't know what on Earth they were actually trying to communicate with some of the expressions used, so had to take a best guess - or simply just use their word even though I knew it wasn't the best one - rather than knowing 100% what the right description was. What's the solution? No idea - the only thing I can think of is having someone to do just the manual and take their time on it (so being started from an early stage of late development in order to have it completed in time) and having access to at least some of the dev team (the boss?) for clarification of procedures and descriptions where necessary. I know this won't happen and also I'll be scoffed at by the die-hards and the usual ego types here, but the subject remains a fact and really should be addressed to make the modules the top quality products they should, could and are sometimes claimed to be. I just for fun read a load of old printed manuals from the '90's by Novalogic, Microsoft, Empire and other flight sim/game devs of the time and absolutely everything was as clear as anyone could want it in those. Having more systems to describe makes no difference - it's the describing that's the thing here. I also think this very subject is probably one that keeps people from using manuals when trying to learn to fly the aircraft. It certainly did with me in the very first DCS aircraft, which I was so keen to learn - the Black Shark. I could see how much info was in the manual, but certain techniques used for writing it made it really awkward to read efficiently (like continually repeating full designations for equipment). I did my first ever pictorial cockpit guide for the A-10C v1 and I can tell you it was far easier than the one I then followed up with for the Black Shark 1.0.2 and I reckon that was because the descriptions (i.e. real manuals) were already there in decent English for the former, but weren't for the latter. Whatever. Discuss - if ya like
  11. Pico 4 is cheaper and has higher res and good passthrough for brew slurping Mind you - they are flogging off the Quest 2 for $/£200 new now, so if you are really stuck for cash you could do a lot worse.
  12. Is the 0.6.0b version from 30th October 2023 still the most current release? It seems to be the latest one on GitHub, but I know there was another source before.
  13. Yeah, it's funny - my 7800X3D is always shown as the limiting factor in my DCS performance! With a 4080 and 64GB of DDR5. Mind you, that doesn't mean the performance is bad, far from it - it's just the limiting factor I've been getting a lot of 90fps averages of late - though it does occasionally drop to 45 for a short while when there's lots of AI about. Doesn't stop the occasional bout of low-altitude stutters when looking at the terrain, though. I'll have to get the frametimes noted - my favourite performance monitor (fpsVR) doesn't seem to work in OpenXR for some reason.
  14. It can get members on ignore lists, though...
  15. I just deleted that post because the title and description contradict each other
  16. EDITED* Doesn't matter about the rubbish blurry graphics - I've gone back to the pre-22nd Feb open beta, which was working excellently on my rig. I'm so fed up of how this always goes - well over 10 years' worth. I'll stick to the version that works well and stay with that until I've finished with everything made for and working on it. When - or if - I get finished with that, I'll have a think about whether I'll update and try the F-4E I already paid for or just cut my losses, call it a day and enjoy my other sims instead. May also just go back to 1.5.8 and do those campaigns that I paid for, or were included with modules (such as Dixmude for the Gazelle or Deployment for the Ka-50) and since got ruined with updates. Plus the VR worked great in that version, too. So lots to do without the hassle of repeated frustration-inducing patches. Ciao.
  17. I agree - I have a 4080 and the best VR performance since 1.5 - mind you, if everything is maxxed out, that may be your problem - no current hardware can handle that and have high framerates as yet.
  18. Would be nice to have Pico 4 pinned as a thread like the other headsets - guess that's cos Americans can't get it (legally). Anyway - I bought one of these kits a few days ago and am very happy with it. It is a bit expensive, but as there are few alternatives for Pico 4, I took the hit and have to say I don't regret it at all. Very comfy - at first it was very snug, but softened within the first session to be just fine. Each battery gives you about an hour's extra time - so you get about 4 hours in one go, which is fine. I was able to switch batteries easily without removing the headset in a few seconds. You can always use the excellent pass-through in any case. So if you don't mind the price, I would recommend this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BP68GP29?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details edit: looks like I got the last one in the UK!!
  21. I agree with you there - but it would be on the caveat that I would be able to mark the map myself. I think this is possible these days anyway? Never tried it, but I think I think I read something along those lines, somewhere.
  22. I guess that may be why, on my first attempt at take-off in the new model it just flipped straight over and smashed into the ground. At least, I hope so. I didn't even look at the non-pilot assignments.
  23. Voice commands/comms would surpass everything as it's been around for years but no single flight sim dev has implemented it as a standard option. Together with an improved comms menu system this would make a world of difference to the sim and up the immersion multifold.
  24. Me too - but PointControl has made a massive difference to my ability to reach switches all around the various cockpits. Now I can fly aircraft (helicopters usually) that I previously couldn't - or had to use autostart with.
  25. No it was from one of my guides, but hey-ho I'm sure he can help himself with a little effort.
