  1. I look outside my cockpit for Polaris, then I start calculating... OK, I'll stop there :lol: I actually don't like how there are very few TACAN stations at the airports, so it's hard to find your way back unless you set up a waypoint. That sucks, too, because in a lot of multiplayer servers, the waypoints are already set up to correspond with specific mission spawn points, and none of them seem to correspond with any of the airports :doh:. Not a problem in scripted missions where your last waypoint is the RTB waypoint. Calling ATC for the particular airport and reporting inbound always causes them to assign a vector to the final approach course.
  2. Yeah, there's no reason to calculate a landing speed because the AoA index replaces that.
  3. You're *almost* right. You can achieve the maximum turn rate as long as you are at the specific speed along the X axis of the chart and pull the stick back as far as possible, but in a level turn or climb, you will rapidly lose airspeed riding that 9G line until you get to mach .67 and the FLCS transitions from 9G to approximately 7.8G from mach .67 to mach .58 until you hit the lift limit curve (i.e. stall). If you are climbing or level, your airspeed bleed will be very fast. If you are diving during the turn, the airspeed bleed will be slower because you are trading potential for kinetic energy. If you want to *maintain* 9G for as long as possible, then you need to trade a lot of potential energy in that turn. If you are at mach .67, according to the chart provided, you need to descend at about 700 feet per second (42,000 feet per minute) during the turn to maintain a constant airspeed and therefore a constant 9G turn until you run out of room, i.e. when you have to stop descending to avoid hitting the ground.
  4. ... You should be able to ride the 9G curve as you lose airspeed in a level turn starting above the Ps=0 line, which is exactly what his videos are showing, except that they're maxing out at 8.8G or so, so the FLCS is over-limiting the aircraft. Looks like a valid bug to me.
  5. I'm trying to learn how to use the GBU-12 with targeting pod. So I have to half-press the trigger on the flight stick, not just turn the "Laser Arm" switch to ON, to lase a target after dropping a bomb? My understanding was that the trigger half-press was only for laser rangefinding...
  6. Your question was already answered, but another tip when switching fuel tanks is to make sure the fuel booster is on. I once switched from left wing to right wing tanks with the booster off and my engine died until I turned the booster on :megalol:
  7. This bug still seems to exist. After I slew the maverick close to the target and ground stabilize it, when I try to finely adjust the slew onto the target, it keeps slewing in every direction except the direction I'm trying to move it. It's damn near impossible and usually takes me until I'm within AAA or SAM range before I can get a lock on the target.
  8. I can only see SU-27 training missions, too. I swore that there were more training missions a long time ago, but when I went try them out a couple of weeks ago, I didn't see any and just thought that my mind was playing tricks on me.
  9. Well, it took 60 hits from PTAB-10-5, 44 hits from my wingman's 30mm cannon, 2 hits from FAB-250, and one S-25 to kill the CH-47...
  10. Wow, only 1/r^3? That is ridiculous. I released the 2x FAB-500 dead in the center of the helipad in a stable dive and waited half a second before peeling out to make sure I didn't upset the release. Then, looking over my shoulder on the climbout, I saw just a huge cloud of dust covering the helipad, so I was sure that I killed it that time around. I went with the default loadout playing the mission for the first time. I had 4x S-25 rockets, but I used up all four FABs on the chopper, then went out to sea and used one of the S-25s on the ship out at sea and sank it after the first shot. Then I RTB with 3x S-25 remaining, and after I landed on the carrier and didn't get a "mission accomplished" message, I realized that I didn't get a "return to base" message after dropping the bombs on the chopper earlier :doh: I'll replay the mission later and see if cluster bombs work better.
  11. This thread reminded me: why don't I get any glideslope information on the backup instruments until I hit the FAF? The HUD glideslope works as expected. If I'm not mistaken, it's the same in the SU-27, SU-25T, and SU-33... For the OP, here's a video I made using that same mission. Instead of following all the waypoints, I just depart runway 14, make a 180 degree right turn, climbing to 4500'MSL (about 3000' AGL), then I go out past waypoint 9 and do another 180 degree right turn to join the ILS approach.   12. This. I just played the SU-33 Heavy Sky mission where you have to bomb a helipad. The SU-33, just like the SU-27, releases the bombs in pairs by default, though I've never tried to change the salvo mode or ripple interval in those aircraft. I know it works in the SU-25T. Anyways, so I dropped two FAB-250s on the helipad and hit it, then I came around for another pass and dropped a pair of FAB-500s on it, and still didn't kill the CH-47 on the helipad. The bombs are nerfed if you ask me...
  13. I often spot tanks by flying right over where I expect them to be and looking for the green tracers flying up at me lol
  14. I've avoided a bird strike before by delaying my rotation for an egret crossing above the runway at 50' AGL before. Not all bird strikes are unavoidable.
  15. You reminded me... I was looking for a way to reset the trim to neutral/takeoff trim but couldn't find it in game. Guess it doesn't exist? Edit: actually, I've been playing nothing but SU-25T lately so it might only be that module
  16. Yes, I understand that, but when the bird is not visible/doesn't exist physically, you can't even take any action whatsoever to avoid it, i.e. delaying rotation/aborting/etc. I have a private pilot license and I work as a controller at an FAA control tower, so I'm well aware of birds.
  17. Nope, I will keep the slider at zero. Now, if the birds are real, physical objects in the simulated world that I have a chance of seeing and avoiding, then I would turn the slider up a little bit for some "realism," but the setting as it is is just stupid.
  18. OK, there was a "Birds" slider set to maximum (1000). I set it to zero. So... I should hopefully no longer have this problem? You'd think that the birds would actually be visible.......

  20. My SU-25T engines frequently explode on takeoff with no explanation. Mostly happens at the Gudauta airfield, but I have had it happen on other airfields, too, but rarely, and I forgot to save the track files. This is killing me because it puts me a whole step back on the campaign every time :doh: Two track files attached. I took a few laps in the pattern with the SU-25T and I was able to land and stop with only wheel brakes in about 6000 feet, based on the airfield diagram for the airport I was using, and then pressing F2 and zooming out to estimate the distance after stopping. I was an air traffic controller in the Marine Corps and I remember regularly seeing F-18s (no drag chute or reverse thrust) landing on the 9000' runway at MCAS Futenma and being down to taxi speed less than half way down the runway, so being generous, I will say they needed only 4500' to come to a stop. Are the SU-25T brakes really that bad compared to other fighters?
  24. Nope, both of these incidents occurred BEFORE using the wheel brakes. The first one was while trying to get back near the center of the runway so that I wouldn't run off the edge. I started braking after moving to the centerline. On the second one, the drag chute pulled me to the right and I was steering to the left to counteract it when the tire was ripped off. I usually pop the chute, slow down to ~100km/h, then drop the chute and start using the wheel brakes.
