  1. Have also just seen the CGAviator Tonka video on YT… absolutely blown away, especially Mach Loop and the recovery to Valley

Very impressive IFE - needs to be in DCS…👍

(frustratingly little shown for the other 3rd party DCS version😕 - potential for a partnership approach???)

    I hear you.

But let's just play devil's advocate for a second: There's a pretty nice looking GR.3 in the pictures there, too. No sekrit radar and stuff. I'd take a GR.3 before no season-correct Harrier at all.

Was Atlantic Conveyor planned to be in the assets pack? I'd like it to convey my AV-8B to places, that's why I'm asking. 😜

Yes I do know, the real one is in a "slightly used" condition...

Atlantic Conveyor is well known due to her loss, but sister ship Atlantic Causeway also went South

IIRC, my father worked on the preparation / hasty fit out of Causeway (not sure about Conveyor), Rangatira and Contender Bezant - subsequently RFA Argus

Is this a bug or a Wishlist request?

    Both, I guess…

I posted in the S Atlantic sub-forum, asking whether the were any ME settings to get AI strike packages to keep a set height above terrain

The Argentine pilots showed considerable skill and bravery in pressing home their attacks during the Falklands Conflict, but I was finding it hard to replicate their ultra low level and terrain following flight profiles…

Same applies across many other areas of DCS - helos, Viggen, Mossie - tell the AI to fly at 10-20m AGL and expect them to get on with it 🙄

  4. I was surprised to read about Spit pilots getting caught out by Zeros….

Would have to check which models - but presumably Vcs over Darwin?

I also think the match ups with the 109 and both 190s will be fascinating

I’ve posted before though - would be great to have an Illustrious class carrier (and a Seafire MkIII…!) to go with the Corsair and Hellcat

(Norway - about to get the right map… Tirpitz and JG.5 here we come 😉)

  5. Compartments / flooding could be simplified along the lines of focstle, midships, aft - to allow bow or stern first sinking,  port / starboard for list / capsize.

Perhaps separate damage hit boxes for magazines, machinery spaces and CV avgas bunkers

I guess hull and deck playing would need an “Armour” value that would repel or be defeated by set ordnance. Below waterline hits should be able to cause flooding damage

These cruisers are festooned with AAA, it's going to be pretty difficult to penetrate their defences lol

Yep… given the gunnery accuracy in DCS… even the S-Boat and Type VII U Boat are very difficult to attack

BUT - absolutely delighted to see these and CV-6.  Great stuff ED

(can we hope for some Fletchers…?)

Thank you all for your replies - was only thinking of the AV-8B in the Falklands within the capabilities that it has … ie no A2A etc apart from Aim-9s….could still be fun.

It’s a good point, and worthwhile to try…

I have tried setting up missions from Invincible, but the AV-8B is limited to the ground attack type roles in the Mission Editor… I might try setting “none” in the mission role picklist and head off with a pair of sidewinders

  8. My personal view…

… it all revolves around the Sea Harrier

Getting the SHAR modelled unlocks the whole of the 1982 scenario

With a block on the SHAR, 1982 becomes a bit pointless for air ops…(and the whole S Atlantic map concept starts to unravel)

Raz claim that the radar system isn’t possible due to security classification… which may well be true, but some limited “Joe Public” type internet wanderings suggest there should be info and SMEs for the 1970s Blue Fox radar in the FRS.1

(I almost wonder if civil servants at UK MoD are responding to Sea Harrier data requests on the basis of the later and genuinely sensitive Blue Vixen radar from the Sea Harrier FA.2…???)

  9. The old MAW mod for CFS was a good template (Mediterranean Air War) - loved the dessert / med camo schemes.

Quite a big area… Tunisia to Alexandria on the coast, south into the Sahara, north to Malta, Sicily and Southern Italy👍

An then there’s also an excellent plane set to pick from as well

(I’d actually favour this to BoB, which could feel very samey to what we already have)

But wasn't GB using the GR.1(A) and GR.3 in the Falklands war? As i can see this version never got an AA Radar. Just with the knowledge of that war, Royal Airforce began to put Radars into Harriers for Sea Harrier FA.2 in 1988, some years after the Falkland war?

Best approach here is to understand that the Harrier and Sea Harrier are very different aircraft with different roles and developed for different users.

The Harrier I family (AV-8A in US) were developed for the RAF - mainly intended for forward area battlefield ops.  No A2A radar.

The Sea Harrier was developed from the Harrier for the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm (F.A.A.) - always intended as a fleet air defence fighter after the Ark Royal / Phantom FG.1s were withdrawn.

The first Sea Harrier FRS.1 (FRS = fighter, recon, strike) was equipped with Blue Fox A2A radar and AIM-9 (9L for Falklands conflict)

The upgraded Sea Harrier FA.2 was still based on the Harrier I airframe (with most FRS1s upgraded to FA2).  The FA2 was equipped with the very capable (and highly classified) Blue Vixen radar, AIM-9s and AMRAAMs.

Both Sea Harrier variants are a totally different proposition to the standard Harrier GR series. The OP ( @C3PO ) quotes Sharkey Ward’s Sea Harrier book - which outlines how his Sea Harrier unit cleaned the floor with a US F-5 Aggressor unit as well as with contemporary F-15Cs… and the Sea Harrier joins the F-15 as the only two jets with an unblemished kill to loss ratio

Our DCS AV-8B is the upgraded MDD BAE Harrier II airframe… equivalent to the RAF GR5 / GR9…. Still mud movers and not equivalent to the Sea Harrier “family”
