  1. Have just been reading an eye witness account of the Battle of North Cape… Not a battle with an air component, but fantastic details regarding the RN action against Scharnhorst and the destroyers and cruisers that formed the backbone of UK carrier group escorts Would be fantastic to see these busy little ships in DCS

Yes, I’ve used that for V1s - but the incoming fire always seems to land on the exact designated point… I guess what I’m trying to figure out is whether the ships (or arty, or any other units etc) will fire on enemy units as they become active… if we want to get really into this it would be something like an FAC or forward observer to call in fire support ETA @AG-51_Razor just seen your edits
  3. With a number of carrier mods in use, has anyone attempted a Seafire mod…??? ie - adding the arrest or hook to a Mk. IX?? (ok, I know the Seafire F.3 was developed from the Mk.V, but hey ho)
  4. thats useful - couldn’t work out why the one gauge read 0 when the a/c was fully fuelled I am struggling to work out which gauges are for which tanks though It doesn’t help that the tank numbering on Fig 18 dong match the a/c tank numbers shown on the gauges…! from forward to rearward, I assumed the starboard gauge panel read: - first pair, inner wing tanks, 146 gallons per wing, one gauge per wing… tanks 2&3 from Fig 18?? - second pair - no logic here as the RH gauge is the non fitted long range tank. First gauge is only for 53 gallons - both tank 1 centre tanks from Fig 18?? - rear pair - outer tanks, excluding drop tanks, which matches the 58 gallon per wing capacity on Fig 18 I can confirm that the transfer pump dumps fuel out of the aircraft… thought I’d been hit as I had two plumes of fuel streaming behind…!

So, we have a number of battleship and cruiser mods which could be used for shore bombardment… Does anyone know if / how these can be tasked to fire on shore targets in the ME? eg, how to task to fire on targets of opportunity?
  6. Bomber and NF variants would both need considerable AI to allow swapping into special operator seat or bomb aimer seat. as well as the night Ops nav eqpt etc
  7. This year my flight hours have been almost exclusively in the warbirds… My last jet flight was in the L-39 and I’ve done a bit in the Gazelle and Mil-8 but apart from that the piston-engined birds have fully held my attention and provided both learning and entertainment. Anyone else…? For the most part, the forum sections anticipating the next jet release(s) don’t excite me, although the Mirage F-1 looks lovely My most anticipated releases are the Corsair and South Atlantic map
  8. Split-S or two followed by a hard break into the circuit…?
  9. yes and no… From what I understand, the airframe is largely the same, but with the glazed nose, aero windscreen and bomber yoke / modified cockpit layout And Merlin 72 engine instead of the 25… Yes, that’s a lot of changes, in terms of both 3-D model and coding - BUT I can’t imagine it’s much different to the calls for different 109 / Spitfire variants…?! …and I suspect just as much work would be required to roll out a NF version as well
  10. seem to remember reading something like that… the diagram above though does show a line from the 4-way switch (7) on each outer through to the fuel collector box (17)…
  11. Flying at 20k yesterday, I found that as well as pitch instability, the Mossie was also constantly dropping her left wing - which I kept trimming out when I glanced at the aileron trim indicator I was pretty much full right deflection on the trimmer…! I assume fuel burn from outer / drop tanks is balanced??? And that fuel load out in ME is also automatically balanced)
  12. Says everything about British ergonomics of that era…! I was looking everywhere on the starboard side and cockpit rear - ie with all the fuel stuff…!
  13. I wasn’t referencing circa 20k as max ceiling - it was the altitude I chose for cruise / range… What I did find, was that the Mossie seemed even more unstable in the thinner air
  14. Does anyone know if the EA version has a functional long range tank?? If not, then a stopover in “Russia” will be required, as per 617 Squadron on their first Tirpitz raid
  15. The landing in the OP was unfeathered, as have been many subsequent one engined landings… Not sure if it’s me, but if you don’t catch it while it still rotating the hub won’t feather once the engine has seized
  16. Seems like 340 is the limit for most of us then (or thereabouts…)
  17. Wanted to try the Mossie on a longer distance jaunt… in prep for fjord raids from “Shetland” to “Norway” Manston - Ostend - Calais - Dieppe - Eastbourne - Dover - Manston… just about 400 miles Flew her fully loaded - bombs and drop tanks Climb to 20,000’ is tedious and the trim sensitivity seems even more tricky at altitude Didn’t have any engine problems (normally do), so can only conclude that getting back to 2650 / 8 boost and keeping there is good for engine life Fuel management worked ok - burnt drop / outer tanks first then switched over to inner. Only problem was couldn’t find drop tank jettison (only to find out after that it’s the same as dropping the wing bombs) So, basically - bring it on with that new map
  18. Anything you own…? I can’t wait for this map - it will be “Scotland - Norway, WW2” Mossie fjord strike against shipping and industrial plants - vs German flak batteries and FW 190s Of course, the real frustration is the lack of RN / RAF aircraft - of any post war era but especially 1982. That Sea Harrier is a must…! Argentina are getting a Raz Pucara and the forthcoming Aerges Mirage F1 could be useful Of what we do have… UK - Gazelle, Hermes and Illustrious mods (many RN assets shown with map.. assume asset pack?) Argentina - A4 mod, Avio Jet + Sea Eagle as Etendard / Exocet stand in??
  19. As described above ^^ there’s no logic to her being “tail heavy”… All the weight is forward on the Mossie - engines, guns, crew etc Is it more a case that she has a big wing, located far forward in the fuselage??? The lift vector must act further to the front than other aircraft (granted, CoG should also be far forward, but even if these balance, does their of centre position in the airframe lead to the pitch sensitivity?) Of course, that same large wing is what allowed her to carry such heavy fuel and bomb load outs
  20. I can get about 340, straight, level, trimmed etc That was a specific max speed test with no ammo and 25% fuel load max revs and boost, rad shutters closed
  21. I’d welcome an early NF.II but the clean lines if the B and PR variants show off the design in its best form

    Any news?

“Armada Argentina” on one of the buildings is a good clue
  23. Oh, I don’t know… … I’m sure there’s plenty of fun to be had experimenting… Would need some “big bomb” visual, sound and blast damage effects, but that’s for the good of the sim anyway (eg, the V1 mod needs a bigger bang)
  24. Why would we want a US Norden sight for a British aircraft…? Not sure if any USAAF Mossies were fitted with the Norden, but it didn’t find favour within the RAF. Not sure what the B.IV or B.IX were fitted with, but most common RAF Bomber Command sight seems to have been the Mk.XIV… and of course the PFF Mossies used Oboe as well
