  1. Maybe it’s something that varied from squadron to squadron or group to group. In particular, I think much more likely on a fighter squadron - one individual pilot / one aircraft, and I can readily believe the ground crew could make some “personal adjustments”. On a British bomber squadron…? I’d be interested in what others’ research has thrown up…. Certainly there are many wartime photos of aircraft with “raid count” bomb tallies, which indicate 1 crew / 1 aircraft, but equally the RAF also seemed much more “buttoned down” in terms of personalisation, with many images of absolutely standard aircraft markings. Maybe some COs were sticklers for discipline and uniformity. On a more practical note, not every crew flew on every raid, with some being rested, on leave etc. Every serviceable aircraft would still be indispensable for the war effort
  2. From what I have read, RAF crews did not typically have their own aircraft… I think that is more of a US approach that has entered WW2 aviation lore. Looking at ORBs and reading memoirs it seems that crews were allocated an aircraft for each mission, depending on which crews were rostered and which aircraft were serviceable… In those circumstances, a pilot tinkering with the controls set up would seem at best a talking to and at worst lethal
  3. Just read an account of a 157 Sqn pilot who lost the port engine on take off… 100-150’ AGL, 140-150mph. Managed to belly land at a nearby USAAF airbase
  4. Yes, but is that for a modern counter-rotating pair?
  5. Antwerp - Ardennes - Cologne - Amsterdam map would be interesting… Rhine, Ruhr, Ardennes Forest
  6. It’s difficult to simulate night time bombing raids with the B-17… Yes, the Fortress works as a stand in for the RAF 4-engined bombers, but it is massively over-gunned compared to a Lancaster, for example. The ball turret also makes a typical NF approach very dangerous
  7. Totally agree - my route in to the ME was building warbird missions in the Nevada map… Wanted to explore the map AND set up some desert style missions / use the N Africa camo skins Have done the same with Marianas and Cyprus
  8. I really, really, really want to take one of those for a trip out… ED would make a lot of folks happy if what’s in that pic appeared in the sim Oh, and some TI marker flares would be just the ticket
  9. Be interested in feedback on this throttle - it’s on my “shopping list” for the Mossie in particular and warbirds generally
  10. Blueberry pie…. sounds like bl….. ”bluster” to me
  11. Needed soon ETA - to catch the Mossie
  12. Hoping we’ll see some more Corsair progress / news now that the Mossie is on pre-order
  13. @LucShep IMHO, WW2 is probably the best part of DCSW… The main barrier is the learning curve - which is somewhat reversed compared to the jets. Again, my own take, but with jet aircraft getting airborne, flying around and getting down again is a fairly shallow learning curve. The detail and greater depth comes with multitude of systems knowledge required to fight the aircraft effectively. For the WW2 aircraft, the detail, depth and steep learning curve is all around the engine and aerodynamics - all the stuff you need to get off the ground, fly and get back down. Very rewarding when it comes together, but requires persistence beyond the duration of the free to fly trials
  14. Can anyone enlighten me on Mosquito exhausts??? The 10 saxophone exhausts on the FB.VI struck me as odd on a 12-cyl engine… A quick look through photo-refs suggest the unshrouded B-models have 6 per side and the FB-models 5 per side
  15. Hold on when did the sub title change…?
  16. Just watched the vid… ABSOLUTELY CHUFFIN SPEECHLESS (well, without upsetting the language filter)
  17. Those screenshots are absolutely stunning… The last one in the sequence is especially good with the motion blur - reminds me of Lancaster shots over the Derwent dam The red spinner / D-Day stripes one also looks amazing - is that one of the airworthy Mossies…??? Vid going live now…
  18. Frankly don’t care…!
  19. Pre order is live now folks
  20. S Italy - Malta - N Africa… Can cover WW2 and Libyan Cold War tensions ETA: Norwegian coast - again, can cover WW2 and CW
  21. Not sure how I get a track file / where it’s saved
  22. Ahh my mistake then… watching the vid it looked like the aircraft was a few seconds past the explosion when it went off Good news that it’s getting looked at though
