Itlaian extremists?? No, really, no. There is a very interesting, alternative and rather anarchic underground music scene in Rome you may be unaware of. Benson was a celebrated figure in these circles, and this was a performance, not an attack. These launches became routine, it was part of the show (you may note the fishnet for protection against bigger, bulkier objects), and honestly it was really hilarious. At times someone would exaggerate, it happens. It also happens when moshing, and that is a lot more dangerous, if you ask me. No arm was ever intended. Quite fun to be there, too.

Confirmed.. the Caution Light Panel is unreadable. Turning all lights at max brightness, one may faintly see the difference between on and off.

I am having a problem in mission 2 (take off and EFATO), after start up and taxi towards the runaway. When halting short of the runaway for the final check and take off clearance, as per request, the instructor behind does not slow down and crashes right into me. I hear the "you damaged the aircraft" reproach, followed by a system crash. First time I could shut down DCS from the task manager, second time I had to power the PC down, everything froze. No crash file was created, but the error is reproducible. I am going to try to request clearance while moving and stop on the left side of the runaway.. EDIT: confirmed third time: the instructor goes right to the threshold, ignoring me all together. He then stays there.. I continued before he could ram into me, then the mission proceded without problems

i7 8700K Radeon sw 19.3.1 Radeon Settings Version - 2019.0926.1648.30252 2D Driver Version - 8.1.1.1634 Direct3D® Version - 9.14.10.01410 OpenGL® Version - 26.20.11000.13571 AMD Audio Driver Version - 10.0.1.12 Vulkan™ Driver Version - 2.0.106 Vulkan™ API Version - 1.1.119 There, I copied/pasted everything. Didn't mean to upset or contradict anybody, just stating that mine works fine. Vega 64 and a 5700XT are not the only AMD cards out there ;) Mind you, I have not updated since long, never fix what is not broken..

Reverb + Radeon VII user here. My setup works perfectly, not sure which AMD cards you are referring to.

GTX1080 TI 11GB vs Radeon 7 16GB on VR performance

I have a VII and a Reverb on order since June.. you have no idea how much I would like to help. HP, "quid agis"?? -
Radeon VII, what do you guys think ?
gabgio replied to BitMaster's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For what I understand, they seem to be pretty much on par when it comes to DCS. But to my knowledge nobody has done any direct comparison, so I may be wrong. As for stability, I did not have any GPU crash-related problem since I got it, except of course when I was fiddling with voltage/frequency. I am now settled at 1000mV/1800MHz, with some great performance after the latest updates in Beta: I rarely go below 70fps and most of the time I'm in the high 80's with almost all maxed out, on an ultrawide 3440x1440. Probably a 2080 would get similar results, with marginal plus or minuses. For me, the choice was dictated by a combination of low price for the VII and a genuine dislike for the counterpart offering. So, there, I can't really help you choosing, just offering my positive review of the VII, it has been nothing but good for me so far. Remember: the fans are loud .. when I play the Witcher (which seems to be a lot more taxing to the GPU than DCS, btw) there is a howling wolf screaming from inside my rig. Luckily, it adds to the atmosphere of the game -
Hey guys, for those of you living around Munich: on Saturday 21 July, the DLR (German Aerospace Center) will have an open-doors day. More info here: https://www.dlr.de/dlr/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-11095/1997_read-32804/ Topics range from space exploration to robotics, from optical communications (lasers) to flight experiments etc.. There will be a simulator to try, but nothing too fancy (I am not in charge of it, otherwise I would have assembled a proper DCS station ) Unfortunately all flyers are in German, but everybody speaks English, in case. Location is Wessling-Oberpfaffenhofen, some 30Km south of Munich, take the S7 direction Herrsching and get out in Wessling, there will be a bus to bring you at the entrance (or take a short walk, about 20'). If you come by car, there will be parking lots arranged in the fields in front of DLR facilities.. the perks of being in the countryside! Bring your families, kids, and friends along. There will be a number of "beer spots", plenty of Bavarian food and live music. And if you happen to pass by, drop me a PM, I'd be happy to greet fellow simmers

This. The same in Germany. I've just received an email from HP store offering me a prolonged warranty on the "Reverb VR1000-200nn". It seems many at HP are confused with the naming, when it comes to the consumer version..

You just reminded me of a practical joke we used to do to our not-so-attentive electronics teacher in high school: we would invert the electrolytic capacitors in our small assemblies on purpose just before he would test them... I've learnt rather funny cursing over the years, when those things would pop with a loud bang. We would sometimes design the circuit just to be able to pop those 1 or 2 mF beasts -

Well, I'll be damned: Caseking received the package at noon, less than three hours later they contacted me confirming the PSU is gone right through the pearly gates and offered me a full refund. 10/10 service, absolutely satisfied with their efficiency, and I've just ordered again a replacement from them for the same amount of the refund. Good service these days deserves recognition! And for good measure I've just ordered a good APC surge protector (PMF83VT), although I cannot tell whether the cause of death was a surge or not.. Now the race is on: will it get here before the Reverb does? -

Something like this? https://www.cyberport.de/?DEEP=6G03-24I&APID=117&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9aGD2qXp4gIV0eJ3Ch2jBA_REAYYBCABEgJ_g_D_BwE 540W should be enough, I mean, what is the likelihood of an event occurring exactly during max utilization of all my components (the estimated my peak power with all the stuff I have attached is on the high 600's - never directly measured it, I simply used various PSU calculators). I had to laugh at the 150k insurance protection.. I now want to read the fine prints about that Alternatively, https://www.alternate.de/html/product/1186215?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsICJv6fp4gIViM13Ch10Zwt8EAQYASABEgJuE_D_BwE -

Yeah, seems like I only got unlucky, shit happens. Good idea about the surge protector/UPS, I never considered one where I live now as the wiring in the house seems pretty decent. I had one in my room for my pc in Italy, that house was a mess, every two-three months something would blow up (I can't count how many times we had to fix the boiler..) I'll probably get one, I had a look at how much I spent on this pc so far while searching for the PSU original bill, and got scared -
You and me both. While I'm "jealous" of those who bought the 1080ti in the pre-mining-madness era and enjoyed a massive return on their investment (I mean, three years down the line and still kicking strong!), I have a rather different opinion about shelling out >1k to Nvidia. Yes, it is the undisputed performance champion, but no way I wold hand in that amount of cash to them for just eye candy (but I can't judge those who do, if you have the money, go for it by all means). On the other hand, the VII enables me exploiting that humongous amount of fast Vmemory for other purposes (rendering and editing + 3D sw), and could even turn out a fantastic gaming GPU for DCS if and when Vulkan will be adopted. And to be honest, it is no slouch at all right now, I feel it was a great purchase for 650€ (got lucky with one-day offer), some 20% less than a 2080 around here, one month ago.

High end PSU gone in spectacular fashion
gabgio replied to gabgio's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Probably not, it was a 1200W unit. Also, it failed at startup. As you suggest, there could be some (low) correlation with my recent GPU upgrade, but I'd say it is extremely unlikely that there is any causation, way too high of a safety margin.. -

wow indeed.. So, at first inspection no visible damage, that's why I tried to hook up mobo and gpu on an older psu to start and double-check. Of course, damage may appear down the line, but so far I'm optimistic. The GPU still needs to be tested though.. If you mean on the PSU, I can't tell, I cannot see inside as the openings are too narrow. But it still smells, so I guess it's been properly cooked. Meanwhile, kudos to Caseking/Seasonic to quickly handle the problem, I've already received a free return label for sending the part back, they will check it and according to them, most likely than not, I will simply receive a full reimbursement (weirdly, it is the only model in their Prime platinum line that got discontinued from last year... mmmhhh). -

I'll wait before buy, it should be covered by the warranty. In the meantime, I managed to hook up an older PSU I had lying around, and both mobo and CPU seem fine. The VII is still on hold, as the old PSU does not have the necessary 2x8 pin connectors, of course.. :badmood: -

gabgio replied to gabgio's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Oh wow, the cable got melt and nothing else was damaged? One year and four months.. Bad luck, I suppose, given Seasonic reputation. And I don't know any other brand that offers a 12y warranty. I'd happily investigate the problem myself, out of curiosity, but opening it would void the warranty, so back it goes -

I surely hope so.. After a few g&t's to placate my ire and fight the inevitable boredom, the irony of the mishap starts to become evident: I still keep teasing friends who fearlessly decided to try their luck with the not-so-rarely burning 2080ti's, and here I am, with a cozy fire lit right below the VII  Karma is indeed a cruel mistress
