  1. Here's an example of of how AAR worked before AFM/PFM were introduced to Flaming Cliffs. This is probably exactly what you're looking for... EDIT: Here's how it looked in the F-15C
  2. I think that's a fair guess, but related to the systems of the launching aircraft, and not so much the RWR itself. I bet it's related to the length of time the battery inside the missile is able to power the receiver antennae, guidance computer, and missile flight controls.:book:
  3. An RWR fundamentally is a radio receiver (my latest speculation is that it's basically a complicated ADF/ARK). As far as I can tell, it receives signals, converts them to an audible frequency, and transmits it to the pilot. It also has some sort of filters or a signal database to compare, and those systems illuminate the different lights. I think a very basic answer to your question, is that it will stop providing the warning of a launch, when it stops receiving the radio signals which indicate a missile in flight.
  4. WIP
  5. Yes! Many of us want to up the realism even more!!!
  6. While I don't agree with the "funnel" idea (too much work for devs), this is a great idea. It could be added as a "perform command" or "set condition" option. The option could then be narrowed down to individual units. Instead of the funnel, how about just forcing the play to stabilize the aircraft in pre-contact position... just as is currently required with full realism AAR? That solves closure and position problems. Then when the tanker clears contact, AI autopilot takes over. The jet is returned to the pre-contact position by the AI after refueling is complete (or aborted via radio option), and they can resume their mission. It is certainly possible.
  7. I don't run a squadron, and I don't host MP servers... so maybe you guys can help enlighten me. Your new and unskilled users have the ability to enable Unlimited fuel, and I know servers have the ability to restrict this feature. Is it possible to run a server which allows client preferences to be respected? Users with limited fuel will run out of gas, while unlimited fuel uses won't? You didn't mention MP here, so the answer obviously is Unlimited Fuel for you. I cannot fathom why people are so against that.. it's already in DCS.
  8. There's an AAR instant action mission for the Viper, and it doesn't take more than about 10 minutes to build a scenario in the editor. It can for sure take 30 minutes to properly perform the entire procedure. This is an incredibly weak excuse. Get up there and do it!
  9. Pressure correction is on the Standby Altimeter, below the RDDI HUD altitude source selection is below the UFC The radio altimeter is by your right knee. You need to turn it on by moving the triangle to any position other than 0 ft.
  10. if you enable mouse view (moving the mouse moves the camera), press and hold your mouse wheel down, and drag the mouse to the left and down. Press the 5 key on your numpad to recenter the view.
  11. How much curve do you have on the rudder?
  12. This might help explain. EDIT: Ignore the stuff about compass deviation.. not modeled (AFAIK) in DCS.
  13. The kneeboard is a clip-board that you would use to hold paper documents such as aircraft checklists, navigation charts, and airport information. It includes a strap and the pilot secures it to their thigh, thus it's a board at their knee = kneeboard. There is a 2D version in DCS that is pulled up by holding down the "K" key on your keyboard, and can be toggled with RSHFT (Right Shift Key) + K. Pages are changed with the "[" and "]" keys. The F/A-18C can display both Magnetic and True Heading. By default it uses magnetic, and this is the appropriate setting for the combat areas available. Yes you must correct for the differences in magnetic and true north when doing stuff like this.
  14. Use the rudder, not the brakes on takeoff. I do have a curve set for the rudder, and there is a reported bug with tire side loading in the Viper. Still, the video you posted shows incorrect technique.
  15. At what distance indicated by the Tacan in this example? I will try it.
  16. It would not surprise me in the least to learn that 100 years from now every airplane, and every ship still has a magnetic compass in prominent display and good working order... I see that as a "fighter jets don't need guns, they use missiles" kinda move. :music_whistling:
  17. Sounds like you guys are talking about this problem:https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=276893 If you're using the default slash key in flight then you're not pressing the radio switch, and it used to display the radio menu but not transmit messages.. now for many modules it won't display the communications menu at all.
  18. I should have clarified, I was looking for sources for the claim "the magnetic compass is going to become an increasingly useless instrument in the coming future." Interesting enough this is either the current situation, or was recently the situation regarding large magnetic anomalies in Russian territory. The Tu-154 (at least as simulated) is heavily reliant on gyrocompass navigation, and the system is replicated in the Mi-8, Ka-50(somewhat), and L-39 in DCS. But still, having a direction sensing instrument that requires no source of power to function is incredibly useful, and I'm highly skeptical that any navy would characterize the humble device as "increasingly useless." Tracking and publishing the movement and position of magentic north has been going on for a very long time, and I don't see it becoming any less important in the foreseeable future.
  19. True, but if he's using the earth to measure the desired radial, he's going to introduce an error. Any source for this? Magnetic poles are constantly moving. You can even measure the drift of continents with shifts of the earth's magnetic field. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleomagnetism
  20. Be default, the F/A-18C uses magnetic headings, not true. Try again but correct for Variation this time, see if it gives a better outcome. It will be much more helpful to include a specific example if you still have problems, because it's hard to generalize this stuff (where is the runway, where is the TACAN, what course was chosen, which direction is the error?).

  22. 2 tracks attached to this post. Some maneuvering it make the FCS/FLCS work, then recover to Straight and Level conditions as you described (except 350 knots). 30 seconds using timer less than 100ft altitude deviation, less than 100 feet per minute vertical speed change (both cases a climb). EDIT: I didn't touch the trim (in any direction) in either. F-16 no climb 30sec.trk FA-18 no climb 30sec.trk
  23. If the engines shut down due to lack of fuel you need to repair the aircraft (have mechanics change the fuel pumps). If you don't have a source of AC power (I.E. running engines), you will see no indication of fuel quantity on IFEI. I tried watching your track at X6 and it failed when the aircraft crashed into the water.
