  1. Thanks Buzzles, I thought I was going crazy. I guess Ill be flying my Mi-8 until this is fixed.
  2. Hi Everyone, I noticed something a few days ago, my afterburners do not engage. Has anyone else seen this? If its due to an update, please fix it asap! How else can I shoot down those jerks in F15's. :)
  3. Hey Guys, Its great to devote most of your attention to one module. I really enjoy the Mig 21. Its a real challenge and using weapons doesn't take too long to get the hang of. I have a commercial pilot certificate with instrument and multi engine add ons. landing this thing is the hardest aircraft I've flown both in sims and real life. Multi player can be frustrating sometimes with half of the people launching aim120s from f15s, but i just recently shot my first f15 down last week (he was out of missiles). It drawbacks compared to more advanced fighters are what I think makes this plane so much fun to fly. In conclusion this is an aircraft that must be respected while flown, once you learn its strengths and it weaknesses it is a formidable enemy. As far as hardware is concerned I actually use a 13" macbook pro with windows 10 on boot camp. Im very pleased with the performance, i even plug in my old 33" tv as the monitor with no drop in frame rate. I also use a cheap joystick. Enjoy the mig 21, don't give up on it. It takes some work but its worth it. It takes a real pilot to get in knife fighting range and send a heat seeker up his tail pipe. look for me on multiplayer TickJackson Happy Flying.
  4. Hey Whitehot, The control helper is in the options menu. It seems to fight the autopilot and creates annoying oscillations in the controls. I haven't really gotten into the adf and doppler nav yet. Perhaps this weekend. I do use the doppler radar for landing though. Its very helpful. I agree I also really enjoy flying the hip, its my favorite module. I have the 21, a10, huey and f15 the last two I just bought during the last sale. I haven't given the huey a fair chance yet, I've only got an hour or two in the seat.
  5. Hi Everyone, I am pleased to announce that I'm pretty sure I've figured out how to fly this helicopter. Here is a summary of what I discovered after countless crashes: 1. turn off control helper (it does something to the trim, not sure if its a bug or not) 2. trim trim trim trim trim 3. set your control curves to linear 4. take it easy. You are not gonna slow down and drop 500 feet in a half mile (Maybe its possible but I haven't figured that out yet) 5. I noticed that taking off fully loaded helps make it easier to control (more inertia) 6. Plan your approach 7. the heading hold autopilot is more trouble than its worth This is what I've found through trial and error and I'm still learning. It worked for me. What works for you? -TickJackson
  6. Charly, Have you considered printing these guides and selling them? I would give you all of my money.... -TickJackson
  7. Hi Everyone, If I'm reading this correct the problem is the person is trying to tune into an ILS signal like a VOR. The ILS only send out one radial. That is there is only one course available to track. You could do an ILS back course but I'm not sure if its modeled in DCS. In conclusion, the only way to track to an airport using an ILS frequency is to approach the field and fly the approach. You should also see a much shorter range (20nm). Hope I was able to help. -TickJackson
  8. Just saw it! Thanks Chuck! Awesome work
  9. Hi everyone, I just realized Chuck has put the link on his guide. RTFM !!!
  10. Hi Everyone, Not to diminish the great work done by Chuck, I've found another great resource we all can use. The FAA has most of its publications ready for download. I just downloaded the FAA Helicopter Flying Manual. Here is the link:http://www. faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/helicopter_flying_handbook/ P.S. Chuck, Are you working on an Mi-8, or an A-10C guide? Thanks. Your Mig-21 guide is a work of art! Thanks
  11. Hi Everyone, I like these stories, and will add my "pucker up moments" both real and simulated. My first pucker moment happened surprisingly after I landed on the nicest day I have ever flown. It was September 11, 2001. I was 20 miles away from NYC doing BAI maneuvers for my instrument rating. All of a sudden I hear on the tower frequency at FRG that everything is getting shut down. My instructor and I head back in oblivious to what was going on. And didn't find out what exactly happened until we got back inside. We were one of the last flights back into FRG and were shut down for three months. In DCS, I was in multiplayer trying to learn the systems on the A-10C. An F15 come hotdogging in and tries a staffing run, I ask him if he wants some practice, I hit the deck and he goes after me. Since I am just learning the A10, I was unable to pickle off an AIM-9 which I had locked on him. Shortly there after I became frustrated and lawn darted. -TickJackson
  12. Speaking of good stories, Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising. Or any of his books. Sorry for the side track.
  13. I'm working in one of the old grumman buildings on Long Island right now. You'd never know this is where the LEM for the Apollo missions and all the great things Grumman built happened here. Cant wait to fly the 14.
