  1. Slightly confused what you are asking. You key assignments are stored in your /user/saved games folder. They are not removed when you uninstall. However if you install a completely new version , lets say 2.0 alpha, DCS will make a new set of files for this version. Have a look in your save games folder and this should make sense. it is possible to copy keymaps from one version to another, even though this can often cause problems when there are changes between version. You need to use a text editor to copy the contents of files into the keymap file map you want. Just copying the file rarely works. You can also export key assignments from the options section where you set them up.,. have a look. Sorry not making a tutorial.. just pointing you in the right direction.
  2. As said above ED is using smart installer. So if a file hasn't been changed and you have it in any version of DCS it will be copied to where it is needed rather than downloaded. The Nevada terrain is made up of many small files, with a few large ones, (sub 1 gb), so it's unlikely you'll ever have to download the whole thing again, just the updated bits.
  3. I'm clearly in a minority, but pretty underwhelmed by 2.0 and Nevada map. Its either Vegas, desert or incredibly low resolution texture areas without even roads. With 4 airfields, 2 of which in the same place. Not feeling much love for it. And then there's 2.0: Maybe its the fact that we get an ' alpha' product. I'm struggling to see the great improvements made in the game. I think enabling sweetfx to the old build had just as significant improvement. Guess i'll keep my warthog under dust sheets until its finished and try it again, all a bit meh.
  4. Go to http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/terrains/nttr_terrain/ And click on "get serial number" button. Obviously make sure you're re logged in.
  5. Hmm that is possible actually thinking about it. My TrackIR profile for DCS does not use the default, but the arrow keys instead, but this was when I 1st loaded 1.5 and its possible TrackIR was on its default profile... that would explain what was happening! Good catch, thanks.
  6. I was just re-familiarising myself with the Su-27, getting controls setup and doing a few test flights. I noticed the Zoom View under axis commands was not working as expected. I set it to use the slider on my Warthog throttle but it had no effect. Later I did a quick test flight without TrackIR running and the Zoom View slider worked. So it appears you cant use two zoom methods. I only have 1.5 installed but don't recall this being an issue flying previously on stable. (but its been a year or two since i've flown) Is this a 1.5 'bug' or a has this been an intentional change. Thanks for any help.
  7. I'm also struggling to control the nose up issue. Trim just doesn't seem to help. Using a Warthog and trim on a hat. Will try again. EDIT: I had FF on in options.. turned this off problem disappeared.
  8. Ohhh 'force trim system'... did not exist (or was not implemented) when I last flew. Sounds likely to be the issue.. will find reference to it. Thanks mate EDIT: I was running from a hot start and force trim was on. Not sure what the issue was, but have not experienced it since. :/
  9. Hi all, I've not flown in ages. And having got back into the Huey after a year away I can't seem to get trim to work at all. I'm using 1.5 beta. I don't haver rudder trim turned on intentionally, just want cyclic trim. I've set the keybinds up, and it makes the 'click' noise when pressed but has no effect. When I turn on rudder trim on it works, but cyclic trim still doesn't. Not sure if things have changed, its a bug in 1.5 or something else. Any ideas? Thnaks
  10. Seems to have been a bugged mission. Thanks for checking for me.
  11. Hmmm ok, thanks for checking. I haven't set them at all, but did check they were not on though. Will test further on a new mission. Cheers
  12. It's a rare and beautiful thing when you get better graphics & better performance from the same patch. Don't think i've ever seen that before. Great patch!
  13. Apologies, took F6 from memory, meant F7. Right i've just retested: Let me explain again. Making a mission, so far it has some blue helicopters, ground units & ships. some of the choppers are clients. I've also added the various roles: commander, observer etc. When i load the mission to test it I can only view the aircraft by pressing F2 I cant see the other units: ground units F7 or the ships F9 or static F12, the view simply does not switch. I can see them in F10 map mode, i just can't switch to see them. (I can take control of them (alt-j)) F11 does work, switching airfields. It doesn't matter if i am a pilot, observer, game master, commander or jtac. i cant switch to see ships, ground units or statics. I don't have any view restriction in mission options or general gameplay options. Am I being dumb or are others seeing this? Cheers
  14. Hi I'm having issues with the view system, as in switching to see other units. With the function keys, i.e F6 for ground units. The only view i seem to be able to get is F2 for aircraft and fly by & nearest aircraft type. I've tried adding all the various roles in the ME, commander, observer etc but selecting these do not help, same problem. I've checked the keybindings, it seems a lot of the view options are not working. Can anyone confirm. Thanks (its something i use a lot in mission building)
  15. 1st thing to do in 1.5 was use sat view for making a mission. :( Doesn't work really at all. Looking forward to the fix.
  16. How to upgrade to 1.5: Download & install the present beta branch, when 1.5 is out you will receive it as an update. Disk space: Beta is completely separate and a duplicate. So if space is a concern, delete the old version. All your settings will be safe in the Saved games folder. You can assume 1.5 will be larger than 1.2, who knows how much. Switching to beta now will almost certainly save you downloading it all at once once 1.5 is out, as it is an update not a completely new version. Keeping your settings between versions is often possible, but know knows with 1.5 beta.
  17. Maybe it's just the video, but the cockpit textures look flat.
  18. I've been optimistic in the past.. tends to bite me! :)
  19. It's possible now. You need an agreement with ED and they will provide the map making tools. I believe some are in development presently.
  20. Thanks I don't actually have DCS installed at the minute. I haven't flown in a year or two as I awaited a new map. I just remember that previously when a large update came up BS1 > BS2 upgrade was not supported during beta. Maybe I should re-install my modules to get the activations/serials in the registry prior to 1.5/2 release. I must admit i'm a bit confused now!.. I had assumed 1.5 would be an entirely new version that would require a complete reinstall of DCS from scratch and not an upgrade. Hmmm. (and yes i do know the new map is not coming with 1.5 but 2.0 later this year)
  21. If I understand correctly DCS 1.5 & 2.0 will be released in beta initially. That being so...will Blackshark 2 be supported via upgrade from Blackshark 1? Cheers

    Sim racing

I've taken to sim racing over the last 6 months. Do it.. its a blast! Assetto Corsa would appear to be the DCS of racing. Might not have the most features but seemingly has the best physics and feel. I bought a 2nd hand G25 set, its brilliant. Been having a blast while i await DCS2.
  23. I'm lucky enough to live a couple of miles from Goodwood on the south coast of England where a flight of WW2 planes made a historic flypast for 75th anniversary of the worst/busiest day of the battle of Britain, 15th September 1940. Here are a few of the shot i took as they flew over. Thought some of you might enjoy them. Full size images are on my flickr page. :pilotfly:
