  1. The Ka-50 is awesome but the trim and autopilot channels will either make him love it or throw his computer out the window :D
  2. Maybe just ease him into it with Flaming Cliffs 3 (or something from it) since he's coming from Shi... War Thunder? I guess A-10C is the obvious choice for modern jet since it has the most content, training and mission wise, though. As for WW2... I dunno, I think I'd skip that for now. Not a lot to do with those modules as of yet. How about a helo instead? :)
  3. Is there somewhere I can download the default keyboard commands for the different aircrafts in DCS? Or perhaps it's hidden in some file under my DCSW install?
  4. Whatever they are I hope they have better training missions!
  5. So I've read about radial interception in the manual, seen some youtube vids about RSBN and ARC, read about dead reckoning and browsed the forum back a few pages back. I still feel like I'm missing something when it comes to navigating waypoints in the Mig 21... I somehow managed to get through the first mission of the campaign. I'm sure that if I viewed my course on the map it would look like some psychedelic doodle a child drew. Having just started flight sims, with my limited (non existant) understanding of navigating without GPS/map overlay here is how I did it: - Before the mission, check the closes RSBN station and note down the radial and range for each waypoint - Get in the air and set my desired course needle to the radial of the RSBN at the next waypoint - Make course needle and desired course needle (not sure if these are the correct names for the needles...) line up - Fly the radial until the range is correct This sort of got me through the waypoints, but the transition from waypoint to waypoint was not exactly smooth. So how do you guys do it? What is the proper way?
  6. Good effort! Needs TrackIR, though :) It hurt me to see keyboard view scrolling
  7. What exactly was the fix for this? I have all the switches turned on as per instructions. Frequency is set to 124.000 Using \ brings up the AUTO comms menu. Text is solid white, not grey. Pressing anything doesn't make my pilot talk, and no response. Using Ralt+\ brings up the R800 menu. Same here, nothing happens when I try to give a command. I would think my pilot would at least say something either way?
  8. This one really should be implemented. Can't be that hard and take a lot of time, but boy would it add to the immersion
  9. What I would love to see is a map for the Pacific. Just a shitload of ocean with nice colour and some islands here and there. What a great theatre!
  10. Hmkmm You guys have piqued my interest in the Huey. Is there a campaign? And how are the training missions?
  11. I would like to try this mod. I see in the first post that I should use SweetFX also. I'm sort of new to DCS so is there a guide to SweetFX anywhere that I should read?
  12. Ugh sad to hear. Guess I'll have to keep pausing, which I hate...
  13. This has bothered me for quite some time now; thought it was time to ask. So I'm flying along the first mission of the Ka-50 campaign where the lead guy is talking and telling me about the scenery and surrounding. I'm struggling to keep my aircraft straight and level and don't have time to read the text in the top right corner before it disappears. This has happened countless times in tutorials as well. I hate pressing ESC, it sort of breaks the immersion/mood. So Is there a way to see previous messages that were displayed in the top right corner?
  14. I am also quite interested in this. For me, the content is as important as the aircraft. I love the training, single missions and campaign. I'll hold off on the order until this info is out
  15. I see "Professional Flight Model" and "Fully modelled weapon system". Does the latter mean "Advanced Systems Modeling"? Or is that perhaps what a clickable cockpit is? Also, how are new modules decided on? Do ED have a deal with some military to simulate an aircraft and then the sensitive bits are taken out? Or are they just for us, the regular consumers?
  16. Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll try to fly with the Flight Director more and rely less on the autopilot for normal flying around. As far as I understand it with FD on you still get the dampening of the different channelse, you just don't have to fight the autopilot?
  17. Ok, so I've read, I've watched videos, and I've played around with it... A question - say I've trimmed, got pitch, bank and heading channels on and am heading in a straight line. I now want to do a 180 turn. What is the correct way to do this? Do I hold the trimmer down the entire time and spend time stabilizing in the opposite direction before releasing? Should I go in small increments? Do I turn off the autopilot channels and then turn? Should I just turn off some of them? Should I just do the turn and then retrim when turned around? I'm really at a loss here, any input appreciated :)
  18. Slight sidenote - I love having all my games in the same place as much as the next guy, but I have bought all my modules directly from their website in hopes they will get more money. Am I correct in thinking so? No Steam man-in-the-middle to leech off the profits. The genre is quite small so I will support them in any way I can.
  19. I don't know many versions back it goes, but at least Windows 8 comes with built in antivirus called Windows Defender. In this day and age, as long as you keep stuff updated, especially shitty java and shitty flash, I don't think you'd need any third party AV stuff. If you browse a lot of porn I'd still install addons like ghostery and noscript, though :) Also if you download and install a lot of freeware stuff, pay close attention during the installation process so you don't get annoying toolbars and startpages and whatnot.
  20. I made a similar thread not long ago, here you can see what suggestions I got: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=143905 Being a newbie (a few weeks in) myself I would recommend you just start off with the free Su-25T. It has great training and content, though the campaign struck me as really really hard for a new player with all the AA. I've tried some of the other modules as well: WWII modules are cool and all, but there is not much content for them. If you just like flying around not doing much then yeah, they're fine. Same goes for the early jets. Ka-50 Black Shark 2 - this module seems a bit old. The training is fan made(!?) and the documentation is outdated, belonging to the old Black Shark 1 perhaps. The whole thing just gives off the vibe that it's been forgotten by the devs, patched together here and there over time. Still love it, though; this is the one I'm focusing on at the moment. Mig 21Bis - OMG WHAT AN AWESOME COCKPIT! The Leatherneck guys should be hired to do ALL cockpits. The training put me a bit off with this one, just being silly comedy, not explaining anything. A-10C - Yeah.. later. Seems like a complex beast :D
  21. Among the 9000 stickies on this forum there is one called "How to Add Custom Pages to the Kneepad". Have a look, maybe that's what you're looking for?
  22. Someone really should go over this again; not only in the Ka-50 part but in all the forums. Are 9 stickies really needed when they could be gathered in this thread? Or how about the 16(!!!) stickies in the DCS World forum?
  23. Thanks, good job! I'll save these for when I'm going to learn a new plane
