  1. I'm very eager to hear some DCS VR results from someone jumping on Alder lake because I'm in a bad situation. My old 7700k which was pretty much a cherry with a top 5% OC I've been running at 5ghz for years (can do 5.1 but backed it off a notch) is giving up. Started getting boot failure, had to reset the bios and back it off all the way to a stock clock and it's still boot failing now and again. It's on its last legs. I'm kind of torn because I'm not liking that power consumption at all, but with supply shortages I don't want to get stuck even worse by waiting to see what happens with Zen 4.
  2. I used to have the CH products back in the day. My first stick was the old ch flightstick with just a trigger and the red nipple on top, with a gameport connector. My first PC game that involved flight was the original X-Wing back on the 386. I started playing it with a mouse, so the old ch flightstick was quite a step up. Didn't even have a soundcard at first, just PC speaker. Had the Fighterstick and Pro throttle combo as well that I played a lot of Janes simulations on. I still remember excitedly driving home from the computer store with my CH pro throttle to play Longbow 2. Things have sure come a long way since then though. I remember being blown away by the 3D cockpit in Janes F-18 and F-18 Korea, if you had shown young sim gaming me playing those or Fleet defender at the time the VR hornet and Tomcat I would have probably died of a heart attack.
  3. Well, to answer my own question and for any other older throttle owners out there thinking of upgrading. I upgraded since my CM is acting up and going back to Virpil for RMA right at the end of its warranty period. To their credit they got an RMA set up for it still even with 9 days left on my warranty. And it's good to have a spare. First impressions Shipping time on backorder was great right now, it shipped in about a week. Hat switches are improved greatly over my CM. They still are not gated, but they are more crisp. All the momentary buttons are more crisp and feel of higher quality. Overall build quality is drastically improved. Toggles are all fantastic, the new colored momentary buttons have a very satisfying tactile click like a mech keyboard. The detents are fantastic. The AB detent is sized just right for the hornet in DCS at the full forward setting. I settled on the classic plus which I find perfect for dcs. Operation of the detents feels very high quality and solid. Resistance is too high for me out of the box, and sadly you have to take off the bottom cover to adjust now but it was not too much trouble. Upon opening the bottom panel to adjust tension, it became clear just how much their internal build quality has improved, very neat and tidy wiring with ribbon cables and well laid out. The rotary encoders work better, in the hornet before I had to turn them very very slowly to register. Now I can spin them and adjust my radios quickly. (maybe just a default profile config thing most likely) The throttle lock lever is a tremendous step up, no fiddling with it just move it left or right and it snaps right in, just perfect really, and the sync feature it has is wonderful. The red toggles are set up as on off toggles out of the box instead of momentary blip of the same button, again a profile thing but I prefer that. Only downsides I can name so far I don't like taking the bottom plate off to adjust, but it's livable. the added length of the throttle is welcome for finer adjustment, but it exacerbates the angling of the right throttle hats issue even more as it moves around. I'm not sure what I think of the rotary encoder where the light switch toggle used to be. I thought it was an axis looking at it but it's a fourth rotary encoder. (Probably welcome for the F16 for people looking to get more rotaries on there). The detents themselves are plastic. How will they hold up over time with a metal wheel rolling over them will be a question. So that's that. If you are a CM or older user, I would recommend upgrading without hesitation. Edit: Just tried an AA refuel and the extra throw is very noticed as far as precision goes. It makes a considerable difference in that scenario. I love the feel of the throttle in general, it feels like it has a bit more damping to it, maybe in the grease used in it. Sadly my muscle memory is now completely out to lunch and I need more practice again, but I can see I will get a lot farther with this throttle. I fell off the basket twice but overall it went well for a first try with a new device. I really hate falling off things in AA.
  4. I don't see how that could correct what I'm talking about. I mean left to right slack that the entire main L shaped arms have where they sit on the shaft at the top of the pendulum. Like if I grab the pedal, or the arm itself, and pull it to the right the entire arm wiggles back and forth maybe half a millimeter. It's not slack in the forward back motion I mean. I just question the long term wear of the bushings on that main shaft if you put any amount of weight on it regularly, with the amount of leverage the arm provides. It probably won't be an issue with heels on the floor and not much weight on the pedal. Plus people seem to indicate they hold up fine even after thousands of hours going through this thread. When I first got my Crosswinds for example I didn't have the best seating position and set up and it resulted in a lot of weight pressing down on the pedals because I was using the platform pedals it comes with. It got really floppy over time as the main bearings for the toe breaks wore out (which are basically off the shelf 1 inch go-kart axle bearings). So after I switched them to the 3d printed combat style heels on floor pedals I also ordered a couple of bearings from a local bearing supply shop and replaced them.
  5. I never saw that thread on the other forum before or the videos, I came across those many times on thingiverse but made an assumption that the ball plungers run on plastic, seeing no instructions on thingiverse is why I never printed them. I made one just now for my CM throttle to try (assuming Virpil ever replies to my support ticket and agrees to fix it before the warranty runs out on the 19th). Ali-express sells ten packs of ball plungers for about 2 bucks so I just ordered a pile of them and will try it out when they show up.
  6. It's not really the toe breaks I meant, but yeah they are kind of a little clacky as well. The main pendulum arms and how they attach to the top shaft is more what I was referring to. They aren't really a tight tolerance fit on the shaft and you can sway the whole arm back and forth with what comes out to maybe half a millimeter to a millimeter at the bottom of the arm where the pedal attaches. I have not tried removing the entire arm from the main shaft to see how it attaches, but I would have to guess it is just keyed to the shaft based on the way it slops around on it. It doesn't really hamper the performance of the pedal in any way, and since they are almost zero pressure on the arm with the heel resting on the floor design it shouldn't be an issue. It could probably be shimmed up to be more snug, but honestly I'm happy with them and don't feel the need to tinker with them. I like the metal tie rods, in the future maybe I might consider that as a replacement for the RC car traxis style arms it has out of the box.
  7. My VR rig is left of my desk, when I use it i swing my monitor arm over so I can see it and place my mouse on the left edge of my desk to use. I wouldn't mind getting a mouse mount for my chair. But I've also considered just placing a wireless ambidextrous mouse on my left side as I have a wheelstand pro that my throttle sits on and there's room to use a mouse on the left side of the throttle. My cursor fades after a few seconds of idle like others have mentioned here so I have no idea why yours would not be doing that. Another Idea I had recently is to 3d print holsters for the Valve knuckle controllers that attach to the aluminum extrusion of my stick mount. Which now is an inverted long Monstertech mount I just screwed to the piece of MDF I made up which my pedals also screw to. That way I could just reach forward and grab either one when I want.
  8. I would be kind of leery of those designs that use ball plungers. That Is I wouldn't spend much money getting it printed. I can't see that being very long lasting riding a steel ball plunger on cheap thermoplastic. I never bothered to print one of those for that reason. Along with the fact sourcing hardware like ball plungers is a pita in my country.
  9. It's important to make the distinction between the VPC configurator and the Tester. The configurator button tab is showing you the raw output of the hardware. The tester is showing you the virtual button output. Myself I dislike the way the hat switches are not gated and for example when held in the down position, you could easily rock the switch back and forth between the corners resulting in dual button presses. The result being, you just have to be very precise about how you use them. I turn everything but the POV hat to 4 way instead of 8 way in the alps decoding. The result of this is there are no longer diagonal double button presses. But the downside is you can for example now press the hat down diagonal and it will not register anything at all. Meaning you still have to be precise with your direction press. On my CM2 grips this is less of an issue. But my CM throttle especially on the right grip face buttons it can be annoying to use those hats because the throttle is rotating and changing the angle at which the hat has to be pressed. I see someone had a thread complaining about that very issue elsewhere in this forum.
  10. Just got mine today. First impressions for switching from Crosswinds which I have had for six years: 1: Very precise, have done limited testing but just taxiing feels fantastic. I like the out of the box tension adjustments with no changes. Just taking off I feel like I have a precision I never had before even with the crosswinds to keep the nose right on the center of the runway. 2: I was worried about the center bump which was mentioned. It's perfect though, So subtle I can barely even feel it in use, but very solid centering when you need it and lift your feet up. 3: build quality seems solid, all the moving parts look like they use some teflon bushing similar to the material in an igus linear bearing. Very smooth, but as for wear and tear who knows how it will hold up. 4: I like it being completely sealed, it's going to be a treat to keep clean compared to the crosswinds or any of the other yoke style pedals. 5: The pendular motion is nice, but it does have the downside of now moving up and down. So at full deflection my heel wants to come off the floor on the close pedal. This can be mitigated with seating position adjustment. 6: I don't care for the deep concave design of the toe pedals so much. I had printed replica F-18 pedals for the crosswind which I like the shape of better. 7: The main pendulum itself is not super tight tolerance, if you grab the arms and give them a wiggle you can see the arms move a bit on the shaft. Having not taken it apart though to see if it runs, I don't know if this is any issue. If the shaft is on bearings inside the housing as I would assume and arms just clamp on then it doesn't much matter. Overall very satisfied with the upgrade, they feel great and in my opinion don't need a damper at all unless maybe you are flying helos and want to go full damper no springs. They seem like they will be amazing for helos.
  11. Learn to autohotkey script. You can do whatever you want with it.
  12. Not much you can do if you fully deleted it. Reset the Keyboard category to defaults, blank the other peripherals by column and start over binding them from memory. You have your work cut out for you.
  13. It's going to have less centering ability dependent on how stiff your spring is. I ended up reducing the dampening to one of the lowest settings for use with planes with the spring and cam attached. If my understanding is correct, helo pilots tend to just take the spring right off and use the dampers resistance. I love the KA-50 but really haven't tried that out in it yet. And my set of TPRs are on the way so the MFG is likely getting retired to be spare equipment, or sold.
  14. I tried out FS2020 thinking a Modern games got to run better in VR. It was a disappointing shitshow all around. Performance was horrific and I had to compromise on visuals a lot. The real world map which sounds very exciting looks about how you would expect a zoomed in closeup of bing maps to look when you are down in the mud. Tooling around in a cessna that can't take more than a 30 degree bank safely isn't exactly thrilling compared to doing mach 1.8 in a Tomcat. Oh lord the controls setup, so awful. 150 gig install just to get started. Not my cup of tea and not at all competition for DCS.
  15. Knock on wood but my game has been running pretty nice since 2.7 and I'm really enjoying it. Well I had taken a break from about May, but when I returned to the game last month I was relatively happy with the performance and the new clouds, so I didn't play some of the earlier 2.7.x iterations. Granted I only play fairly simple missions and not online multiplayer really right now also. But I had much worse performance in the past on and off through updates. I would say I'm cautiously optimistic for Vulkan though I'm keeping my expectations moderate. My dream scenario would be that it works really well and they actually implement SLI VR but I probably jinxed it even saying that.
  16. Are you saying you should learn to fly the F-14 right to the edge of the envelope faster than you've ever flown before?
  17. I was somewhat confused when I tried doing the JSOW qualification mission in the hornets mission list. With the weapons loadout you're given I can't find a way to complete the mission. The SA-10 knocks every one of them out of the sky while they're still 35 miles out.
  18. One thing that has happened to me that causes it to seem like it's not responding is if the PTT keys are pushed to fast or multiple get triggered at the same time I have run into a situation where the listen and release commands get reversed and it stuck in a sort of hot mic state where it still thinks the PTT button is being held, and pressing the button has the opposite effect of making it stop listening. I found this out because the buttons are dying on my throttle grip and this was happening somewhat often because I have PTT set on a hat switch with forward back and depress, so when I would use depress it would fidget back and forth rapidly sometimes and get stuck this way. The only real reliable way to fix is to restart voice attack in this scenario. But rapidly mashing the ptt keys will sometimes reverse the process.
  19. One other thing I noticed and am not sure if its a bug or intended, relating to VSPX. When you use the "test" feature on the keywords page it does not appear to do anything. It just waits for a second or so then says VSPX processing is enabled. No test results.
  20. I've looked further and the keywords collection formatting is quite different for VSPX mode, it's sectioned off in brackets. But it does not create a section for the Mission/Server/Mystery keywords. If I export the keywords database it produces two files, the .txt to paste in that you get when clicking finish also. And a CSV file with listed commands. The export CSV file of listed commands for VSPX includes all the commands in question, but the paste in file does not. So perhaps this is a bug? Or simply a limitation and this feature does not work in VSPX mode?
  21. Disable VSPX checkbox Set delay back to zero Click finish and update database again Works as expected with results pictured below. Also the keywords collection in the clipboard with VSPX unchecked contains Mission, Server, Mystery, Cargo etc.
  22. They do show up in the pulldown now, despite not being in the block of words from clicking finish. But they don't work. All come up as unrecognized.
  23. Actually now it showed up in the pulldown menu... I still have the keywords in my clipboard that do not have those mentioned commands. But they all appear in the pulldown. Now mine says 924 where it said 927 before when I first pasted them into the profile, so I have no idea what's going on with that. Does DCS have to be run once maybe for it to update and include them? I do not use the auto import f10 feature.
  24. I updated the keywords as the program tells me to when enabling the VSPX checkbox. But the updated list is shorter and has none of those keywords Mystery, Server, Cargo, and Mission are not in there. It's 927 instead of 940-some keywords when I toggle VSPX on and click finish. If I reverse the process Finish lights up again and the resulting keywords database contains all of those. But if I use that keywords base with VSPX checked I get crashes.
  25. So I've been wanting to use the VSPX processing but am a bit stuck with the F10 menu. In normal mode I am pretty successful with using the Mission.. options. Take X commands to select f10 menu selections. However, when swapping to VSPX it asks me to use the finish button and update the Database. Which if I do, no longer seems to recognize "mission options". In fact I pasted the keywords list in notepad and looked and The special menu keywords are all gone. Mission, cargo etc. The take commands are all there still but do nothing on their own. I've consulted the manual and can't find anything about this other than the section which describes how to use them with the micropause method. If I do not update the database as suggested when enabling VSPX, the commands are still there, and almost sort of work, however Voice attack crashes completely when calling Mission options and holding the ptt button down before the take x command can ever be used. Does this just not work in VSPX?
