  1. This community has proven to be a life saver, for me and many of us. I hope someone can help with this one.... Can anyone advise as to whether it is possible to save/launch a flight that enables the pilot start a flight with avionics/instruments all pre-set at a particular point in a flight path? e.g. setting up for an ILS approach - avionics set, instruments set, x miles, x knots, x heading, x altitude etc Many thanks
  2. SithSpawn - thank you for keeping us updated. I hope ED appreciate what an effective marketing tool you are! Some interesting and many valid comments on this thread IMHO. I do get the point of the trees to the runways though (as a RL pilot).....but I guess the CA guys could quickly take them down..... Keep up the good work - 2.5 would make a great Christmas Present!

    Weekly Updates

I can't quite get to grips why ED fail to utilise PR to their advantage..... ...It's a powerful tool...keep people informed etc etc... Users "expect" (as offered) a weekly update. Okay, there's big convergence occurring currently, but excluding the membership from the the issues is a big PR fail in my view. I operate a 'non-digital' medium sized business, and if I fail to communicate why 'things' aren't happening, the consequences of that, within dozens, notwithstanding thousands of participants, doesn't bear thinking about ............
  4. After the recent update, the horizontal magnetic indicator is all over the place in the P51..............
  5. Hey Wingnutt270, Have you checked that GUI page in the setup? Maybe the update has 'un-ticked' it?
  6. That's a shame, I'm sure lots of us were hoping for an update. So, does the Friday 'update' announcement relate to updates that have been available for two days, or to upcoming updates the following week. Some clarification would be helpful?
  7. I know that many of us have struggled with performance stuff in recent times.... However, history has shown that the ED dev guys ultimately find an overall solution that works for most of us....the rest, history resolves in their 'fine tuning'. Time will tell........
  8. Goblin - I accept that there are possibly numerous hardware tweaks that can be applied by numerous users, but 2.1 doesn't work for me. Maybe, I have to spend a dozen hours fine tuning the Spitfire - I may be prepared to do that but there are many who won't and may miss out experiencing what was questionably the best single monoplane experience of the 20th Century!
  9. Hey Guys, My 2c worth..... I love the Spitfire - however - the ground handling needs to be sorted IMHO. I'm certainly no expert, but have several hundred hours RL power, including 100hrs or so tail dragging - but nothing with this horse power!. Of course, I could be missing the final 'tweak' that works for me but there's something not quite right about the MKIX takeoff run. I do suspect that 1939 pilots with this flight model, wouldn't have survived beyond operational conversion units!! Okay, the wheels are closer than the Mustang, for example, but the handling is light years away by comparison! No probs on T/O or landing in that one. My issue combines 'handling' and marketing. The Spitfire may well (as it should) attract many new pilots - but if the ground handling dynamic issues aren't sorted, many pilots will end up totally disillusioned and won't use it! Just a personal opinion, that's all...... EDIT - I do use VR, which lacks peripheral vision, this may be a contributing factor!
  10. hansangb - thanks for your swift response! I've cleared all other zoom options within the 'adjust controls' menu. thanks JCK
  11. Hey Guys, I'd sure appreciate any work-around to resolve my zoom problem within VR (TM Warthog Hotas). Strangely enough, following the initial Normandy update, I could allocate the zoom view no problem (I used the joystick button/slider Joy_btn 4), which worked in and out of cockpit. However, since the interim update and irrespective of which 'adjust controls' menu I use, it seems impossible to use this, or any other button for that matter, to apply any zoom view. I doubt I'm alone in experiencing this..... Am I missing something fundamental, or is there an issue with allocating a zoom view? cheers JCK
  12. Prior to getting CV1, I was a bit concerned that looking at others' comments, there might be an element of "I've just spent xxx£/$, and I'm determined to justify it!". Having been an avid TrackIR, multi monitor etc - I was a bit reticent. However, it's not perfect, resolution drops a bit but the immersion is unique. Wouldn't look back!
  13. From a PR perspective......some news would have been useful. No doubt they've been wrestling with lots of technical issues, but ED have shot themselves in the foot by not reassuring us all that matters are in hand? Just my 2c...
  14. Cursor & Button clicking problem Hey Guys - I'd sure appreciate your advice. Since 2.1 update, in VR I'm struggling to click buttons/switches with the cursor. It doesn't seem to apply to all buttons but appears to affect all aircraft. Anyone else experienced this? Have I missed a new tweak in the GUI? I'm gonna check 1.5 later, to see if it's an issue there..... Many thanks EDIT - yup, 1.5 does the same, switches/buttons do eventually work but takes maybe 20 clicks (+a few secs for the cyan cursor to re-appear) Cold and dark starts out of the question!!
  15. It seems I'm not the only one, again having major time-wasting problems attempting to download a newly released module. My sequence of events: Downloaded Normandy map + assets via 2.0 Open Alpha updater. Had to restart as everything ground to a halt - Eventually, thought I had everything downloaded and as it was far too late to mess about, went to bed. Booted up PC - no mention of Normandy or Assets in Mod Man. Trawled forums, I wasn't alone! Used cmd prompt method on Map and Assets. Seemed okay. Fired up DCS and entered reg. code for both elements. Tried to launch a quick mission in the Huey. Tried to load but locked up. Okay try the instant action free flight in the Spit. That did load, very jittery in VR (even with ASW). Exited and reduced the settings. Tried to re-load free flight, locked up 2/4 through loading. Did DCS 2.0 Alpha repair. Rebooted. Now locks up on every attempt to load. Very fed up. Log file attached. Any help appreciated (although I'm losing the will to live here!) JCK autoupdate_log.txt
  16. Thanks for the tip.... Looks like it's reinstalling it from scratch again? What...another 5 hours???
  17. Hey Guys, In the launch blurb, did anyone see a specific time/zone mentioned?
  18. Hey Guys, Don't be fooled by eye Candy..... Time lapsed, speeded up graphics aren't how the real world appears. The invisible, real world dynamics that drive the visual cloud effects as they'd work in real life, within the complexity of DCS are beyond the capabilities of current hardware - in which case, it won;t be truly realistic. At the moment, for best performance, turn the clouds off, wherever possible. It might be a different story in 5 years time, but not now.
  19. Not sure if this the right place (ED please take note).......... Logged in this pm.....To cut a long story short. I'm keen to update to NTTR 2.4. - unfortunately/simultaneous spitfire release etc. After ED update [50 mins], Restart....OS update [40 min] etc etc So, I'm obviously keen to get airborne.......... Eventually connect and WOW, the background soundtrack has changed! It blew me away to the point that I couldn't press the 'FLY' button until I'd heard the whole soundtrack loop!!!!!!!! Top marks ED A/V production.
  20. Great - so we all got some time to read the pilot notes? ....... and what really excites me, is that ED is unlikely to release Spitfire unless the new map is too far behind? Could be a merry Christmas!!

    Hawk Rear Seat

Guys, your passion has never been in doubt. Overcoming the inevitable challenges, you will subsequently demonstrate. With regards to communicating with your customers.....you're top. Just keep us in the loop.....as you always have done. Thank you.
  22. Hey Guys, Firstly, can I just thank all you 'leaders' out there, who altruistically continue to offer critical help, support and advice to noobs like me! Thank you. After a GPU upgrade, CV1 arrived a couple of days ago. Wow. Still getting to grips with it though. My question is, what methods are you guys using to replace the mouse to 'select' items using the VR 'pointer'? - have you mapped a key on the HOTAS? or do you use a 'special' mouse. I'd appreciate your advice - keep up the good work!
