  1. I will always be a fan of the F-4B, and specifically the F-4B-27-MC as flown by VF-161 and VF-51 in 1972. I also like the -13-MCs VF-142 and VF-143 flew in 1968.
  2. By OAF/OEF/OIF, most of the F-14A and B squadrons had a mix of airplanes. 6-8 of a squadron's 10-12 jets might be wired for LANTIRN, while the remaining were wired for TARPS. In the A/B, the wiring was mutually exclusive, or at least it couldn't carry and use both at the same time. I don't know whether TARPS jets ever got PTIDs. Often the designated LANTIRN jets would not have the pod downloaded regardless of the mission they were flying. LANTIRN's air-to-air mode was better than the TCS at identifying airborne targets, so even flying CAP, they'd leave them on and put the #2 Sparrow in the aft trough if the jet was carrying a 2/2/2 loadout.
  3. I've already preordered the E. Too many operators I like to pass that up. Everything else afterwards, I'm limiting myself to USN/USMC Phantoms only.
  4. That's awesome news, but I wouldn't hold your breath. I'm personally hoping for the latter of those two options, as the B(U) wasn't given the sparrowhawk HUD until late 2003 (yes, it had the PTID from ~1995 onward), so, like the -70GR and -75GR of the very early 70's, represented only a tiny sliver of the Tomcat's history. The F-14D can cover 1992 to the end. Regardless, it'll be a Heatblur Tomcat, and I'll eat it right up.
  5. Looking forward to those VF-211 skins! They look awesome!
  6. Download the main file from the front page and then, if you are having issues with the textures, the correction files from Urbi's post.
  7. Depends on what I'm doing. I prefer the B for ACM, bombing, and most other combat functions, but I have found for some reason I am far better in the F-14A at carrier landings, aerial refueling, and general procedure flying.
  8. Oh, the VF-2 beachball... talk about a loud helmet. null
  9. In other aircraft like the F/A-18 or F-14, I try to release against a moving target from the head-on quarter. Since the bomb will be in lag pursuit anyway, it's far more likely to hit.
  10. Not all at once. You could have broken these down by CVW and dates as well. Also, these carriers weren't always with the same fleet. Sometimes they shifted between Atlantic and Pacific fleets, though that's telling here with Atlantic and Pacific squadrons seeing time aboard.
  11. Thanks! VFA-34 is my favorite legacy hornet squadron.
  12. So you don't get VFA34_JOKER_CVW-17_USS_George_Washington_2002 when you download it?
  13. The link on the downloads page is incorrect.
  14. I solved mine. I had some back seat switchology issues that I didn't even consider. Maybe keep this topic open for anyone having trouble with the TPOD to discuss.
  15. Yes. I never move it off of TGT. I do have CDES boxed as well. I don't know if this is relevant, and it shouldn't be, but I am targeting static ground vehicles instead of live ones. This is a ground attack training range custom mission that I have made.
  16. Hey guys, I've been trying to learn the use of the TPOD and LGBs, and am having a rather frustrating time. I have watched both the Grim Reapers and Spudknocker tutorial videos multiple times and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. I am in A/G Master Mode, my PACS for the GBUs are set, master arm is on, laser is armed, weapons selected. When I use TDC press to designate a target, the target cursor goes off PTRK/ATRK and into snowplow so that I have to move the cursor back over the target and use auto acquisition press to box PTRK/ATRK again. I get the bomb azimuth line, but it is off center and does not line up with the target. I never get TREL and TTGT is always 00:00. Any hints? Thanks.
  17. Now we can all sit back and play the second movement of "March to Glory" on repeat like it's 1999 all over again.
  18. Caught the new DCS profile photo on the FB page like 5 minutes after it was updated and decided to pop onto the website. Decked out in SE, so I ran the updater and sure enough, she's ready to be put in the stable.
  19. A very special hell? The one they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater? (referencing Firefly for anyone not aware...) Yeah... Navy liveries look really janky on long-nose phantoms. Back to the topic at hand, VF-143's unusual red F-4J liveries are some I'd like to see.
  20. Part of the Heatblur Forge. You'll see a variety of minor cockpit modifications randomly applied to your plane. In this case, your aircraft's ACM panel has buttons that habitually come loose during cat shots, and the safety wire is an attempt to prevent that from occurring.
  21. Awesome. That's my favorite VF-154 livery, the TPS with just the two grey stripes on the tail. Those birds worked hard for a living.
  22. People are talking about removing the glove pylons, but I'd like the ability to define what pylon is attached to 1B and 8B if they are empty. You didn't often see those pylons downloaded if they weren't being used.
  23. Bear in mind that it's not universally true for US aircraft. The F-14 being a prime example (original F-14B prototype, F-14A+ production aircraft assuming the F-14B label later on, etc). The waters get muddier the further back you go, especially in USN inventories (looking at you, F-4 Phantom and F-8 Crusader).
  24. Please note I'm not coming down on either side of the issue. Since someone asked, here is the Wikipedia list of US air-to-air combat victories since post-Vietnam. I'm searching for a list of F-15 kills in other services that include the weapon used, but am so far coming up empty. Still, here is as good a place to start as any. USAF F-15Cs have accounted for 36 of the F-15's 102 air combat victories. Notable that USAF F-15s have 10 kills with the AiM-9, 23 with the AiM-7, and 3 with the AiM-120. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_combat_victories_of_United_States_military_aircraft_since_the_Vietnam_War
  25. No. That's the livery that VF-84 was wearing at the time of filming. Unlike Top Gun, there were no special fictional paint schemes for Final Countdown.
