  1. Hi all,

Quick question regarding Mi-8 comms. How can we set it up so we can easily communicate between two parties?

As far as I can see, the two radios that are setup for two-way external communications are the R-863 and the YaDRO-1A.

The trouble is I don't see a way to communicate on one radio whilst monitoring the other radio. Ideally I'd like to have the YaDRO-1A setup for inter-flight comms and the R-863 for communicating with external frequencies like the tower and other flights.

But as far as I'm aware, if you change the rotary selector on the SPU-7 to one radio or the other, it stops monitoring the other radio.

So for example, if I wanted to get a brief from some ground troops about a CAS mission, and then relay that brief to my wingman, I'd have to speak to the ground controller on the R-863 and then switch to the YaDRO to tell my wingman. Obviously whilst I'm on the radio to one party, the other party can't communicate with me.

Is there a way around this that I'm missing? Or is this just a limitation of the airframe? Does anybody have any ideas how they'd have got around this limitation in real life, or would it entail both members of the flight switching frequency to remain up to date with information.

  2. Hi all,

I'm wanting to setup a mission where the player is searching for an enemy artillery unit over a wide area, and I want it to be randomised so they're not always in the same place.

Is there a way to set this up using triggers? I haven't really delved into the scripting engine yet because I'm not really clued up on lua, but I'm used to using triggers to setup fairly complex scenarios. I was thinking of maybe creating multiple groups in different locations, and then some sort of trigger to make sure only one of them appears, but I can't see a simple way to do that.

Failing that, is this something that's possible with one of the big scripting expansions like MIST or MOOSE? If needs be I'm willing to look into those and see how to set them up.

    Cheers,

  3. Just to let you all know, for future reference, I'd like you all to think of the word "devildog" like one thinks of the "N" word. it may have started as a WWI German word of respect (teufelhunden) for Marines fighting in France, but now it's "our word". We use it on each other more as a perjorative than in any other sense. We call this "devilldogging" another Marine, probably a junior Marine (we would also call this Marine a "boot" - another word you all should not feel privileged to use unless you are also a Marine) after doing something particularly stupid.

Devildog is no longer a term of endearment, it's used within our organization as a knife to slit throats in order to maintain good order and discipline. Using this word if not a Marine is a good way to get yourself punched in the mouth by a Marine in a bar if the number of drinks is right. Here though, I'll kindly ask you to cease and desist. You didn't know, because unless you are are Marine there's no possible way to know this small part of our culture, so forgiven. In the future, however, please avoid use of the word "devildog". Thank you.

    Wow...

  4. To any of the ED guys, are there any plans to implement additional parking slots on the new Carrier?

At the moment we're quite restricted to how many aircraft can launch from the carrier (8 at the most, and 4 of those need to be catapult starts) and it's a bit of a pain for building missions. It'd be nice to be able to create a full alpha strike scenario.

  5. It’s the F-14 Tomcat, one of the most iconic aircraft ever made. It’s not something relatively obscure like [insert a significant percentage of currently available DCS aircraft]. I think the sales would still be pretty dang high.

I would gladly pay more money for Heatblur to continue to develop later versions of the F-14.

Would love to see the sales figures of the F-14 vs. the Viggen...

You're displaying a bit of an America-centric view here. The Tomcat is one of the most iconic aircraft for Americans perhaps, but not the rest of the world.

Russian people would likely choose a Russian aircraft, European people a European aircraft etc etc. I've no doubt that the Viggen is more popular in certain parts of the world than the Tomcat is.

And I'm struggling to think of what aircraft in DCS could be classed as obscure? Certainly not a significant percentage, most of the aircraft we have were/are iconic in their own right.

  6. A quick question for all the HB team, is there any update on the progress of the full Viggen campaign? Are we still waiting on completion of the AI Draken Module?

Me and a friend flew the mini-campaign together and we really enjoyed it, one of the more immersive campaigns I've flown in DCS. I'm really looking forward to more.

  7. ED has never made charts to go along with the maps. Everything that’s included was either made by the community and added by ED (Caucasus) or real world (NTTR). Charts for the PG area aren’t easily acquired through google so unless a community members creates, and agrees to let ED include them it ain’t gonna happen.

Snoopy, do you guys ever plan on releasing the PG ones to the public? Me and my friends use your Nevada ones all the time, we really enjoy your work.

  8. Thanks for the update Cobra, and the rest of the HB team.

Rest assured that the moaning and whinging about release dates comes from a vocal minority of the user base. The majority of us are more than happy to wait a few more months if it means us getting a better product on release. Spend as much time as you need to get it to a level where you're proud to release it, this is your guys' baby after all.

And to be honest, it's probably better being released after Christmas anyway. You don't want to be spending your Christmas break dealing with bug reports and missing features. You all deserve a break just like everyone else.

    Keep up the good work.

  9. That's a crying shame, your videos were great and were a valuable contribution to the community. I'm sorry you've had to deal with this, there's always that one group of arseholes who ruin it for everyone else.

  10. Nice work Razbam! Looks like the real thing! However don't forget the green lights that illuminate the runway.

That looks like an LHD to me and not an LHA like we have in DCS.
