  1. Oh, yes, this! This has been bothering me forever! :P I'm assuming Leatherneck simply went for a 'toned down to color' design without realizing that everyone else had used a 'completely grayscale to color' design. It sure would be nice if ED released an official set of guidelines on this for everyone's "OCD". :smilewink:
  2. I really hope either ground unit DM or aircraft AI is the next Big Thing ED works on after their current projects. I would love to see even a relatively simple damage model improvement for ground units. As in, a percentage chance of certain effects happening based on the hit location and weapon. I.e. turret hit with GAU: 40% chance crew death, 5% chance ammo explosion, 5% chance fire per bullet. Engine block hit with GAU per bullet: 20% chance engine destruction, 15% fire, 1% crew death. Engine block hit with a Vickhr missile: 95% chance engine destruction, 70% fire, 40% crew death. Direct hit anywhere with Mk. 82: 100% chance crew death, 80% fire, 50% ammo explosion. You get the rough idea. I feel the WWII AI could use some work, too. I think three quarters of my kills against AI in my P-51 have been when the enemy decided to fly straight up when I was on their tail. In real life you normally would never do this (except for a few exemptions ) Just a few things at the top of my personal wishlist of new features and improvements.

    Quick ?

Indeed. Right now the Caucasus map is only supported by the 1.5 version and the NTTR map is only supported by 2.0. You should be able to have both versions installed at the same time with no problem. Just download and install 2.0 normally. 1.5 and 2.0 will be merged into 2.5 sometime soonish (hopefully before the year's end), and that version will support both maps.
  4. Also, while we're on the topic of easter eggs, has anyone else noticed these?
  5. Yeah, I just looked at their website; it seems the're southern based. They have locations from Florida to Tennessee and Kentucky to Pennsylvania. I was curious because I've seen them around where I live in Virginia but never paid them any mind. Maybe I'll have to try their food now;).
  6. Well, I figured it out. The .rar file must have gotten corrupted somehow; I simply downloaded it again from another source and it worked perfectly:). Amazing textures, Starway. A million thanks for taking the time to make it!
  7. Ok, what is silly me doing wrong this time? 7zip doesn't seem to want to finish extracting the .rar file, and .zip files are left in the vsftextures folder. I've tried leaving them be and manually unzipping them and both result in the entire world being covered in "MISSING TEXTURE". (It actually made me crack up when I first saw it, I keep imagining a guy coming out of his house and thinking, "Welp, looks like the Matrix broke". I've actually never seen that movie; but I know I need to. OK, I should probably stop rambling now). I followed the JSGME tutorial and put everything in the right place. Maybe I should try a different extraction tool on the .rar file?
  8. What's going on with the Caucasus DLC by Starway? I'm a bit confused. I was searching the forums to see if I could find a planned release date, because when it was announced a month ago it sounded like the release was right around the corner. And then I found this thread:http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=167780&highlight=caucasus+dlc So what in the world happened? One moment it's going to be released as an official DLC for $15.00, and the next it seems it's being released as an unofficial mod once Starway gets enough donations to compensate him for the time and money he spent making it. What did I miss?
  9. Number of parking spaces available to be used by helicopters in the mission editor: Caucasus Map Batumi: 10 Kobuleti: 26 Senaki-Kolkhi: 16 Kutaisi: 25 Tbilisi-Lochini: 70 Soganlug: 5 Vaziani: 19 Sukhumi-Babushara: 23 Gudauta: 10 Sochi-Adler: 41 Gelendzhik: 13 Novorossiysk: 16 Anapa-Vityazevo: 40 Krymsk: 30 Krasnodar-Center: 23 Krasnodar-Pashkovsky: 19 Maykop-Khanskaya: 57 Mineralnye Vody: 28 Nalchik: 15 Mozdok: 39 Beslan: 15 Nevada Map McCarran International Airport: 12 Nellis AFB: 14 Creech AFB: 13 Groom Lake AFB: 4 It seems helicopters can only be placed on open parking spots, so airfields with large amounts of hardened aircraft shelters tend to limit their number (as Grimes stated). Regardless, it appears many airfields on the Caucasus map would suit your purpose just fine, including Tbilisi-Lochini, with support for an amazing 70 choppers! Sadly, none of the Nevada airfields can support that many. Nellis AFB has the most slots available at 14. Though I imagine you might be able to supplement that number with a few FARPs right next to the field. Hope this helps!
  10. Wow, I took a look at the old lua files compared to the new ones; some of the values for render distance had gone way up. Feel like this should have been in the change log. Also, what in the world is 'smallShitDimention'!? It's set to 4000. Are there little cow patties scattered around the fields that I've never seen? If so, I'm totally going to raise the value to 100,000 and see if I can plague the world with 10 foot tall piles of crap!
  11. Select the unit, click on the 'Triggered Actions' tab (the one that kind of looks like a swirly pound symbol), then click 'Add'. In the box that appears, select 'Set Option' in the 'Type' field, then select 'Dispersal under fire' in the 'Action' field. Then simply uncheck the box next to 'Value'. It all sounds really complicated, but it's actually very self explanatory once you start. If you're just using the units for target practice, there is actually an easier way to get the same result: use the Static Object button on the left instead of the Ground Unit button to place the unit. Now it won't move at all, nor will it shoot; it will act like it's unmanned. Hope this helped!
  12. Normally you can only pay for a certain amount of a module using bonus points (30% if I remember right). So if you are buying a $60 module, you can only spend $18 worth of bonus points on it, even if you have $100 of bonus points saved up. The rest you have to pay for with 'real' money. During this sale, that limit is raised to 50%, so you can spend $30 of bonus points on that $60 module. So no, no standard discount sadly. Hope this cleared things up a bit.
  13. Good, I'm glad to know this has been reported and will be fixed eventually. I had tried searching for it but didn't find anything.
  14. It seems in one of the more recent updates, the camera no longer stays in first person when ejecting. It now goes to third person focused on the aircraft. (If third person is off, it goes to free camera where the ejection took place.) This is really annoying because it breaks the immersion. One of my favorite parts of DCS was ejecting felt real; you really felt like you were the pilot being flung out of his doomed plane to safety, rather then just seeing some random person go flying out of a plane. This seems to happen in both 1.5 and 2.0. I really hope it's a bug and not a new feature because of the above stated reason. If it's a feature, I hope it's either reverted, or even better, an option is added to the settings to allow you to pick what type of ejection view you want. I would be curious to know if anyone here knows more about the change or has their own opinions about it.
  15. There are three in the Caucasus map: one south of the Kobuleti airfield on the coast, and two just east of the city of Kutaisi. You should be able to see them if you zoom in enough in the map. There is also one currently in the Nevada map, in the town of Mesquite, although the devs stated they will be adding more soon. As far as I know, there is no way to refuel or rearm at the secondary airfields, but they are good for practicing landings with limited runway length. I've also seen people place targets on them for target practice, since they're relatively easy to spot.
