  1. So they are going update the CA module? I ask because I've always been interested in it. It seems like it would compliment my fondness of flying the choppers. If this is common knowledge my apologies. I don't check the forums regularly.
  2. Well I just got it working. Thanks to your question about the red light. Previously I had always started the CL eye test before starting OT. I thought that was how it was supposed to be done, and it always worked before. Turns out that having the test running stops OT from using the camera now. Holy cow, thanks a lot. I guess I went through a whole bunch of unneeded effort, but at least it works now. Thanks a lot! Who knows how long I would have been trying it that way.
  3. I tried changing the pixel sizes around as I have not tried that yet. Also have been running as admin. No luck. I also have just finished going through with a fresh install of windows10. I thought for sure that was going to solve it, but no. The same issue of the CL driver showing the LED's just fine, and then nothing detected by the opentrack tracking. I keep thinking it has to be some setting, but I keep checking them and they are correct...unless I am missing some strange config somewhere. I am out of ideas for now.
  4. Well, when I open the CL eye driver the image on there comes up, detects my camera image, and it shows my 3 LED's lit up. So no problem on those parts. The issue seems to be somewhere between the CL driver and opentrack, specifically the irtracker protocol I think. It is really baffling. I've installed codec packs, checked settings multiple times. I'd love to try other software and protocols, but sadly there aren't that many options out there. I also found out the UDP phone tracking is only 3 dof...so that is a no go. I am wondering if the creator's edition update for windows 10 64bit did something. On the open track forum there is mention of how fragile the coding is for these types of functions. That still throws me off as I tried on a fresh windows 7as well.
  5. Hello. I have recently had an issue my opentrack setup not working. I have using the ps3 eye and a self made led unit on windows 10, successfully for months. Now I only get a black image with no points in the tracking window. I have already tried a number of fixes including reinstalling CL eye drivers and opentrack, trying to use facetracknoir with the protocols there. Installed windows 7 on a separate HD and tested opentrack in that. Still the same issue. I found that to be the strangest considering it was a fresh OS with only the windows updates and no antivirus. I have tried all usb ports with the camera. The only protocol that communicated with the camera was one of the test inputs. I have read that completely uninstalling avast has worked for some, but considering I had the same problem on win7 with no antivirus I am not sure. I also have yet to format and reinstall win10, but want to try other fixes first. I am totally stumped at the moment. I am considering setting up a udp profile with a spare android phone and using that in the mean time...or breaking down and buying a trackir5. Any help would be appreciated, I really like using the IR tracker I made.
  6. Very nice job! The way you pre shaded it made it look like a very experienced craft. Makes me want to finish my Mil 28, P-61 Black Widow, XB 70, M-28 and King Tiger tanks. Currently working on the Tiger on and off. Too many hobbies, too little time.
  7. Thanks everyone. Especially for info about things like AI and weapon performance. I am really leaning towards the MiG 15 now. I thought for sure I was going for the Sabre just because of versatility, but I had to remember my initial intention of getting an early A2A jet for building my skills on that subject. Since the MiG seems to work better against the AI, that 37mm cannon, and training missions I think it may be better for me. Plus I think I will be a little more excited to fly the MiG and save the weapons versatility for newer crafts.
  8. The more I play this sim the more hooked I get. So with the current sale I am split between which of these aircraft I would like best so I thought I would ask this great group of informative pilots. My considerations so far: I have always had a thing for migs but would be very satisfied with the Sabre module if it has what I am looking for. Of the two planes, which one has the most versatile mission functions and weapons availability? Do these modules have premade missions? I know I can make my own, but I do like having missions with a module already made. Do both of these modules have clickable controls? Finished flight models? Any Mig vs Sabre input would be welcome. I am really looking forward to flying one these early jets.:pilotfly: EDIT: Yes, I realize some of my questions are kind of answered on the store page, but I was looking forward to what people who have used these modules have to say.
  9. I have had the same array of problems everyone else here has posted after a repair in the SU-25T. Flaps being locked, air brakes non functional, flight model has strange characteristics after repair, landing gear lights not working.
  10. So far in my playing some of the Su-25T combat missions I find that paying very close attention to mission planner geographic markers like rivers, certain city layouts, hills, or anything that stands out helps alot. Then when I am actually in the mission I check my alignments frequently and memorize azimuth directions and have my 180 degree coordinates already figured. Then comes the fun part of keeping all of that in check, evading SAM's, locking their radars, keeping altitude above AAA range, finding your actual mission target, and then landing a hit. Sometimes I find myself pausing the game and bringing up the F10 map. Feels a little bit like cheating, but after all of the time I spent flying out there and setting up my approach I can justify it a little. So if I were to give advice it would be to have a plan, a system that you do consistently that cuts out some of the potential confusion around you. It helps me out a lot.
  11. New to DCS world as well. I am blown away by this development. Also it seems to draw a great crowd like StormBat mentioned. Nice forum indeed. I would love to win the highly detailed A10C as I am really enjoying playing A2G roles.
  12. Controlling my glide slope with the throttle like you mention here is what I have been practicing and having success with in my most recent attempts. I think I found out pretty quick just by experimenting that the landing is much more controllable when the pitch and yaw stay at a near constant and I use the throttle to change the degree of the descent. Over the past few nights I've been using the advice given and my new T Flight HOTAS X stick and CH pedals to land with much more control and ease. Yes, I was trying to land using a keyboard for a while since it was all I had, but the joy stick makes a huge difference now. Much more than I would have thought.:joystick: Thanks again, the advice given has been excellent. I am flying and landing the SU-25 with confidence now.:)
  13. @ Ramsay Those images are almost exactly the type of info I was looking for. Too bad the free SU-25T flight manual doesn't have that info....unless there is another manual other than the one I have been reading??? Anyhow, good info all. I have much to digest and practice now. @Apache600 That video and landing were top notch. Nice job.... and that switch board...VERY nice.
  14. That was helpful Deano. I did not consider the maximum landing weight when I started trying to land with that loadout. Later I will tally up the weight of the loadout I have been using and see if it exceeds that weight. Thanks. And about the part of adjusting speed to keep a proper AoA is what I have been working on most. It takes a good amount of throttle modulation to keep it proper and descending with all of the weight. That is where the repetition of practice is needed I think. What inspired me to practice landings with added weight was this. I felt I had picked up on landing the SU-25 with no weapons and low fuel pretty well. I got kind of complacent with that feeling. Then one mission I had a system failure enroute to the objective so I turned around and RTB. Upon touch down if felt like I had never flown the craft at all and commenced to smear the plane all over the place....so much for having that down pat. So yes, so much to learn still. One uncertainty: When should I transition from navigation flaps to landing flaps? I have been fully extending them when about 2km from the strip as long as I am below 350km in speed?
  15. Hello everyone. I have been practicing and practicing away with the SU-25T missions and self imposed drills trying to become proficient at flying the craft. Playing on sim mode by the way. One of my latest concerns that I have been unable to answer or find out are some of the finer landing details in DCS. I have been trying to land the plane with the full load out in the laser guided missile practice mission as it seems to be a good challenge. The best I can get so far without dropping any weapons is just blowing out my rear tires. It is very difficult to get a slow and shallow glide slope with the extra weight I have found. Are there any real life techniques that make this easier without damaging the craft? Also I figure in real life that pilots do not drop off ultra expensive weapons unless absolutely necessary? And for DCS in general: I notice in many of the youtube landing tutorials that most people bypass the descending spiral pattern to landing and just fly out in parallel and then turn to make a nice straight approach. I too find this much easier than trying to follow the directors circle to my possible doom. What do other pilots here have to say about that aspect? Also, the SU-25T auto pilot.... It states in the manual that en rout mode (alt 6) used during the landing mode will take you as far as 150m or 200m radar elevation before going manual. Does anybody use and trust the autopilot to take you as far as it claims to be able to? It has proven to be unreliable and dangerous in random ways when I have tried using it for landing assistance. So any input on that part? Thanks all, this has been a good sim experience so far:thumbup: EDIT: at work while writing this so flight manual references may be off.
  16. So much good info so far thank you all. That is a generous offer. I am thinking of going for the X52 as it is slightly cheaper, sounds effective, and has many recommendations. I will probably slowly add to my sim gadget collection as I have some other expensive hobbies to tend to, dirt bikes are not cheap;) The training is going good. For the time being successfully landing the SU-25 and navigating it is fun and rewarding. Not much compared to those who can dog fight and push these modules to the limits, but that gives me much to look forward to. I am definitely going to get the Ka-50 module. Also, the SU-27, BF 109 K-4, and Mi-8MTV2 look like must haves for me as well. I think this will keep me busy for quite a while.
  17. @ Sryan I was thinking the same thing about the X55 when I was comparing models. All of those switches do look nice plus it looks snazzy. But at the same time I have not seen any complaints about the X 52...hmmm decision decisions. And Call911 I am currently becoming more and more impressed with this game just getting the training missions down using only a mouse and keyboard and that is still fun, though a little punishing. Can't wait to get into this more. I am lovin it.
  18. I've only dabbled with flight sims before, so this will be the first one I will really sink my teeth into. None of the other ones I've seen have been quite as encompassing as this one. The combined arms module looks like a winner. I am really good at self teaching....most of the time. Should be fun. Anyhow, I think I will end up getting a Saitek X55 from what I have read. It is at an acceptable price and seems to be well supported in DCS... Is it? Good stuff so far, thanks for the replies everyone.
  19. Hello, I am new to this great looking sim and am wanting to get much more involved with it. I have some questions that I have not been able to find precise answers to and was hoping to get off on the right direction with this game. Firstly, should I download the 1.5 beta or standard client? I would like to start with 1.5 since I have read numerous good things about it, but I don't know if it will update to the next final version when that update comes out? I don't want to have to redo an entire main module when the new version hits. I was thinking I should play the standalone version as opposed to steam because it states that the standalone has access to all modules. Is there some finer detail on this or does steam simply not have everything available? Are the download versions for modules like demos or sample versions? Not sure I haven't tried yet. Are there flight manuals specifically made for DCS world? It mentions it in the familiarization video. What joystick would you suggest is best for DCS world? Those are the questions I had in mind so far. Thanks in advance for any answers. I am glad I found this gem of a game.
