  1. There seems to be some step which makes it impossible for crew to take off the blocks. No idea what it is as it doesn't seem to be logical. Just ask them removed straight away, and it's all good. I'd guess a bug there, at least I haven't managed to come up any real logic why it sometimes fails. Edit: maybe not a bug, if you have launch bar lowered, they can't remove the blocks. Although not sure how it would actually interfere.
  2. Easiest way to see what went wrong might be to watch the track with labels enabled and using F10 map. You can see where the bandit actually was. I haven't got too big issues finding bandits with F/A-18 so far (losing them when cranking is more of an issue for me), moving nose up and down does help, but I think it's just the amateurish way of searching different altitudes? Or maybe the altitude setting is bugged? (I don't have enough buttons on my throttle to set radar altitude, so I just slowly pitch up and down when ever I try to find hostiles.)
  3. Encountered similar issue with 3 Mig-21 roughly a week and half ago. Cold start, everyone in 21's disconnected just after we took of from airfield. Another guy in M2000 stayed on server without issues. We swapped planes after that, so no real bughunting from our part.
  4. Even two seem to be too many for some of us : Although after battle report confirmed it to be an enemy too.
  5. Personally I've found Hawk to be the easiest way into DCS. It is easy to use, handles really well and has good tutorials. Not much bells and whistles either, so not that hard to master. I fully understand it doesn't bring same usability like Mig-21 for example, but it is much easier plane to learn. It was actually first plane in DCS that I started really enjoying (just easy enough to learn well and take everything out of it). After learning it, jumping into Mig-21 or A-10 has been lot easier. In general, I've just picked quick missions with a few enemy ground attackers inbound and try to take them out with hawk. Ramp start is also relatively easy in hawk, so full experience from ramp, combat and land is often done in less than 20 minutes. Fitting for few quick flights every now and then. It is no match for any serious fighter, but good enough to learn basic attack runs (both aerial and ground) and how to avoid being shot down yourself. So I would certainly recommend hawk for anyone still learning the ropes. Anyone already easily handling A-10C or similar most likely can not get that much out of it. Personally I enjoy it a lot just because it offers quite complete experience while still being rather relaxed. (Although pilot dies pretty much every time you take missile hit and you have no RWR, so vulnerable pilot logbook makes it much less relaxing in combat.)
  6. Good news. Great to have flight model and radio working to get the full hawk experience out, although it's been lot of fun already. Finnish skin also really appreciated.
  7. Hawk was the module that really hooked me into the DCS. I did fly A-10C previously, but it is so much heavier stuff to learn, that it kind of held back the joy of flying while learning. Hawk is a simple plane, easily learned and very fun to fly. Delivering (for me) just the right amount of complexity for the enjoyable learning process. Problem is, it's quite bugged and missing some features right now in 1.5 beta (Works quite well in 1.2), but developer is active and I'd expect it to be in working order soon enough. Also other trainer jets have been introduced recently, I'd see them as very solid starting point for DCS, but don't have first hand experience about them yet. Also, if you've missed a few years of PC gaming, you seriously need to check out head tracking. I kind of dismissed it way too long for nice but not mandatory gear outside multiplayer. Biggest mistake I've made in a while. It indeed brings the simulation to life and I'd suggest getting TrackIR 5 as soon as possible.
  8. Updated my Steam version to beta, and I can lock my missiles, mut after half dozen tests, it indeed looks like it only works at first time after I launch DCS. At second mission I seem unable to get a missile lock. Restarting DCS solves the issue. I even tried shooting a few engines off from that intercept mission IL-76 to make it nice to follow and indeed only first mission after launching DCS gives lock at it. OP, you might want to restart whole DCS between mission when trying it out?
  9. Pylon switches are for bombs/rockets, you only need AAM panel for sidewinders. Don't remember if the pylon switches mess with sidewinders though, but I'd expect they do. Edit: Procedure that should work: Landing gear up MASS key in, turn key, turn switch AAM select Cooling on Wait for few minutes Here is a video from older version: ramp start, intercept enemy, rtb. Should see all the buttons I press there, but there are no hints visible for that. Most switches for weapons I flip while closing canopy at around 0:25-0:35, AAM select is pressed at 3:47. I launch missiles by simply flying into a good firing position and holding the release. It will launch if it has a lock. Not looking at the light really, but it does lit when locked. (And this is not a tutorial for good flying or how to behave at airfield... : )
  10. First post, hello world..! I'd really like to have F-16 in DCS. It might even serve BMS folks actually? Learning BMS Falcon is a huge work, DCS F-16 would serve to teach people how to fly that bird, which could lower the entry barrier for BMS. And yes, we would indeed need a full sim for Mig-29. At least for me, these two aircrafts are the most iconic crafts around, most likely because I grew up playing Falcon 3.0.
