  1. I liked the training missions. Together with the manual, they were a comprehensive introduction to the aircraft. I did not find the lack of a voice-over a problem. If I had to, I would just pause the mission. The best training mission was the landing mission, I thought. Very no frills, but it got the point across. I flew it over and over. The navigation missions were quite fine as well. The MiG-21bis was my first DCS module. What attracted me to it was the training missions and the manual. I hope LNS keeps up this high standard for future modules. I'm sure it is a pain in the neck to write a detailed manual and script lots of training missions, but I think in the long run it will attract buyers, and first-time buyers like myself! 2. Thanks! I was trying to figure this out. I didn't see anything in the manual. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I have the module, and I really like it. I've made it through the first two training missions. They're good, although the second one is tricky. You have to fly through a bunch of hoops, and if you miss the wrong one, the next cue in the mission is not triggered. I really like the L-39 because I feel like I'm losing some bad habits. Also, now when I fly the MiG-21bis, I appreciate what a BEAST it is. Get the L-39! I think it is on sale too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. That is fantastic to hear! Thanks for taking care of this.
  5. I'm guessing that a British Electric Lightning would sell like hot cakes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Buy it! Learning to start up, take off, and land are themselves a lot of fun. Look at it this way: by the time you learn to do all of that, the radar bugs will be fixed! Plus, learning how to use the navigation features is fun too. I know I sound like a fanboi, but it is a neat module.
  7. I am in the same circumstance: work and family ground me a lot! But I keep coming back to the MiG-21bis. I've been playing around with it for over a year, and I have yet to be bored by it. Learning the navigation system is fun too, by the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I wonder if the in-game tutorials need to be updated since the switch to DCS 1.5. When I did them back when I first got the module (a little over a year ago), the tutorials worked fine. They would get "stuck", but only rarely. I hope you enjoy the module! It has all sorts of fun things to explore. Even with some of the features not working properly, I just enjoy flying around in the thing and trying to land it in one piece.
  9. I will try your solution. I tried using the POV hat solution as well, but I keep reflexively depressing the right toe brake whenever I want to zoom in. Muscle memory I suppose. I started using that method in Rise of Flight. Thanks for the suggestion. I will report back. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Yeah, I've been shutting off my radar. Does this work against AI opponents? It seems like this guy knows I'm there even when my radar is shut off. It could also be that I just need to keep practicing.
  11. Target Practice Mission -- Su-34 Fullback and R-73 Missiles I am vectored in on the Fullback by AWACS. I try to close with him as soon as possible, so that it is harder for him to launch his missiles. (I think his armament has a longer range than mine.) Every time I approach him, he turns toward me to engage, so the engagement always starts head to head.
  12. Howdy! I'm firing up this module for the first time, and I have a question about the FOV. I usually bind the zoom axis to my right rudder brake pedal. (Thanks gavagai for turning me on to this.) When I want to zoom in on something, I depress the pedal. When the pedal is not depressed, the view is zoomed all the way out. I do this for the MiG-21bis, and it works great. I've tried doing the same for the F-86, but the zoomed out FOV is way too broad -- so much so that the view is visibly distorted at the edges. It is really distracting. Any suggestions? I've tried zooming in and out by binding the zoom commands to my HOTAS, but it is not as intuitive to me as using my rudder brake pedal. Thanks! 13. Drat. I tried hugging the ground yesterday, and I got close enough to use my guns. I didn't hit him with a single round. He then shot me down with an R-73. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. I'm currently working my way through the target practice missions that come with this module. This is a set of four missions, with varying levels of difficulty: easy, medium, hard, and hardest. You have AWACS giving you target intercept information (BRAA), and then you try to find the targets and destroy them. In order, you have to destroy an F-16, a C-130, an Su-34, amd a Tupelov Bear. I'm stuck on the "hard" level at the moment. Specifically, whenever I get anywhere near the Su-34 Fullback, I get blown out of the sky by an R-73 IR missile. Even when chaff and flares are dispensing properly, I get destroyed before I can take any kind of evasive action. Any suggestions for how I defeat this guy? The engagement is at relatively low altitude; he spawns at 2000 m. I thought that maybe I could try putting my radar in standby mode and flying really low to the ground. Would that defeat his ability to see me so quickly? Or does this guy have AI "sixth sense," like one sometimes finds in other games? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks! 15. I came across this thread because that Instant Action dogfight has been driving me bananas! I can't kill this guy! I finally managed to do it just now. I'm not sure how, except I stayed in second reheat for most of the fight, and I maneuvered a lot more aggressively, with a higher AoA. Also, I kept reversing my turns into him. (I guess I did a scissors?) All I know is that I somehow got on his tail and got him. Very gratifying. He did, however, ruin my good looks -- I think he shot off my nosecone![emoji3] I'll have to see what I did on Tacview. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Howdy, Mugue! Always good to hear from you. Thanks for the suggestion about the options.lua file. It sounds like the config.ini file in good ole Il-2 Sturmovik 1946. I actually solved my problem in a bizarre fashion. I had already changed my resolution to 2560x1440 in Windows Control Panel. I went back into control panel and set it for 1080x1920 (portrait). Everything was on its side. So, with my head tilted to the left, I ran DCS World. The game loaded sideways. I exited the game. I went into Control Panel again and reset my resolution to 2560x1440 (landscape). I ran DCS again, and the game loaded in the resolution I wanted -- 2560x1440. Problem solved! Not sure what I did, but it worked! Thanks for the replies, guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Howdy! I just bought and installed an ASUS Swift monitor. It is 2560x1440. (I am retiring my 1920x1080 monitor.) Anyway, whenever I try to run DCS World now, the game displays as if it were too big for the screen. That is, the display cuts the game off at the bottom and at the right hand of the screen. I have tried changing the resolution in the game settings tab from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440, but the changes won't "take" because I cannot click "okay," because that button is off-screen! Has anyone else had this issue? If it makes any difference, I run the game on Steam. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Love the analogy! Listen to this guy. He is the Master. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Interesting story. I think it would make a great mission! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Sweeeet! Thanks. Love this module. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I wonder why the maneuver is called "pump"? McGowan, any answer to your other question? Just curious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. The MiG-22 has given me hours of enjoyment, and many of those hours were spent just trying to learn how to start up, take off, and land. Only now am I getting into the weapons systems. I don't know much at all about modern aircraft (all of my simming time has been with Il-2 1946 and Rise of Flight), but the DCS MiG-21bis is a delightful module. I paid full price for it, and it was worth every penny. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
