  1. Having flown light vintage tail draggers IRL, my two cents is that slow speed taxiing seems more bumpy then it should be, at least around needs oar point on the normandy 2.0 map. I would expect bouncyness at higher speeds from the rear end but not while slower. Another reason it may seem more bouncy then it should be is because IRL our heads self filter our vision much in the same way a camera has a stabelisation mode.

  2. With the current plane set the Brits are notably lacking high speed aircraft relative to the US and Germany.

Either of these aircraft would be an interesting and fitting addition to the line up due to the intricacies of the aircraft, though with no flying examples it would be tough to model.

Arguably one of the most interesting parts of these aircraft are the Napier Sabre engines that are used, producing a fair amount more power then the rival engines, the merlin and the daimler engines.

They were known for their low down speeds, brutal operating routines and quirks, such as being so fast they would rip their own controls off, their engines would catch fire if overprimed.

The typhoon would fulfil the 1941-1943 period, and the tempest would fulfill the 1944-1945 role.

In addition it would be formidable due to being able to be armed with cannons, rockets and bombs.

  3. Has anyone come across such a mod? The thought occurred to me that it would be very useful for simpit builders that want to make accurate representations without having to find either documents with specs or finding the real aircraft, just an idea 🙂

T-V-M-D-C  (True Virgins Make Dull Company) Is one of the first things you learn in flight school Navigation 101.

    • Ger the True bearing from the map and apply the Variation to get the Magnetic Bearing.
    • Use the wind correction triangle of velocities to calculate the magnetic heading to fly. (no wind correction in this case).
    • To the Magnetic heading apply the Deviation correction to get the Compass heading to fly.

Unfortunately, we have no idea of what the Deviation is.   ☹️

(Has anyone found a deviation card hidden anywhere in the cockpit?)

yeah I know, I did my atpl exams and finished them last year, that's why i was scratching my head, think I just had a  hard time adjusting the p8 compass, all is fine in dcs 🙂 except strangely for how they report wind but oh well lmao.

Also seems in you're example the p8 isn't correctly alligned either, they had to stick it in the weirdest positions. As for deviation I would be neato to have it modelled bit it is nowhere mentioned in the manuals. A shame.

I do need to learn how to use the RI compass though

No, you are not missing anything I am aware of.

    Using 1944 and similar airfields - I see DCS reporting a heading/track of approx. 110°M (98°T) with a MagVar = -12°W

    Screen_230205_163617.jpg

The default air spawn Mosquito's DI read the WRONG bearing, 86° = 98°-12° was neither the Magnetic or True heading.

    Screen_230206_010512.jpg

    [Perhaps the Mosquito's spawn logic is subtracting a +MagVar rather than using Magnetic = True - MagVar = 98°T - ( -12°) = 98° + 12° = 110°M ?]

I therefore adjusted the DI to read 110°M (not sure why the dial compass was reading 138°M in the picture below - likely I was in accelerated flight or climbing/descending prior to taking the screen shot)

    Screen_230205_164608.jpg

Tacview reported the approx. True heading/track of 98°T as given by DCS (F10 map's vertical axis = True North).

    Mosquito MagVar and Compass Check,1944.JPG

    Note

    • LCtrl + Y will toggle's the cockpit DCS info bar
    • Setting the DI needs to done flying straight and level as last time I checked, the remote compass was subject to magnet dip (while on the ground) due to the Mosquito being a tail dragger and DCS not modelling the remote compass's gimbal (seems common to all DCS tail draggers with RMIs).

Tested DCS Open Beta 2.8.2.35759 using Normandy with mission date 21st June 1944

Done another test and it seems as if its just very hard to get it lined up properly, thanks for the assist!

By default the Mosquito's DI was set to read True bearings i.e 98°, so I needed to adjust it to read 110°M

I set it using active pause in the air while straight and level, so I'm rather confused as to my compass would be so far off, I shall attempt another test. Thanks for helping.

  7. Hey all, quick question on the p8 compass and DI regarding dcs.

when aligned to get the mag heading I then use that to align the DI. however the issue seems to be that what is output is different to what dcs shows in terms direction needed to fly, in this example, nill wind, flying from one airfield to the other, none of the headings match up between the sim and tacview, neither magnetic or true. so my question is is there Deviation that i'm missing out or something out?

For reference the variation in this case is 12W. image.jpeg

Could you supply a track of your example, I would be interested to see if they are truly blocked by LOS or other such issues. We do has some reports internally for over performing ground units, but more examples are always welcome.

I'll keep flying and post tracks, had to clear my tac and replay files for space, I fly the mossie so I'm sure it wont take long to get you some ahaha

  9. Got a strange one here, was flying on 4ya ww2 server, the mission ended and that track acts fine, however the track after it acts like a mission file, asking me to pick the coalition, aircraft and so on, it also allows switches and buttons to be pressed which is rather odd, any help would be appreciated.

    06._24_JUNE_1944_v4.7.4-20230131-223133.trk05._22_JUNE_1944_v4.2.4-20230131-221844.trk

what's stranger yet is that the latter track file is much smaller then the first one (05). could it be corrupted?

  10. Hey all, looking for some help here as OBS is baffling me with the way its acting, I've tried to record and stream separately but i'm running into issues with stuttering and low quality, as well as it keeping the black mask around the eye, while I know resizing can help i'm curious to know if there is a way to make it output from the game as if a normal screen.

As far as stuttering, it usually happens when I am tabbed into dcs but not while im not, i'm not sure what could be causing this but it's rather confusing.

    My specs are:

    CPU - 5800x3d

    GPU - RTX 2080 ACX

    RAM - 32gb CL14 G Skill

    MOBO - x570 Tomohawk

    SSD - Samsung 980 evo

    VR - REVERB G2

Strangely shadowplay has no issues with recording dcs so it leads me to believe its not a hardware issue.

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

  11. Curious to hear of other peoples experiences on this subject as I've been flying the mosquito more recently and even at tree top level they seem to track me incredibly well, it seems to me as if you cannot surprise the AI per say as one could in real life with the surprise raids that often occurred using mosquitos.

So my question is this, how does AI track targets in DCS? Does it have blind spots per say, such as in aircraft where they wouldn't be able to detect someone sneaking up on their low 6, or for ground targets can they track targets through ground clutter such as trees, buildings and other things?

I'm finding it rather frustrating trying to get the most out of this module as the main purpose of it is ground attack and it seems that it is only possible to hit ground targets not protected by AAA. Perhaps better tactics could be used.

This is not a rant but rather a discussion on peoples experiences as I'm interested to hear others experiences to see if maybe there's some adjustment that could be done or if I just need to get good 🙂

  12. Thought I'd post as i'm curious if we might get a Fleet Air Arm Corsair in the future, essentially a modified F4U-1D with clipped wings and a stall strip along one of the wings to help cure the stall behaviour at low speeds. Not sure what other equipment was changed, fitted or removed other then those two things. Would be nice to see it for us Brit Lovers, if only to give both the US and UK their first naval aircraft.

  13. Following on from what has been said it seems that british aircraft predominantly saw the biggest gains as well as the p47 by using 150 octane. According to ww2 performance website the spitfire was more then 30mph faster on the deck and had +1000ft/min rate of climb, defo a hell of a kick, the mosquito was also tested and approved of which the website still has the graphs

  14. Electrical noob here!

Just thought i'd make a thread as i have zero electrical knowledge and i am rather interested in perhaps starting a sim.

As i understand it USB encoders are detected by windows no differently to a hotas, does dcs world and dcs bios also detect a usb encoder?

For switch types I have a question on switch states.

A nav light switch would often have an on-off spst switch which would act accordingly, however does dcs or any flight sim detect which state a switch like that is in, for example if I turn it to the on position then back to the off position does the sim act the same? Or would an on-on switch be required.

For amp and voltage ratings, is this meant as the spec it can run up to, or the spec in which is required to run it. Eg a 12v switch.

Also would be a good way of running an entire panel off of a single USB, seen builds of a10s and f16s that run off a power supply and a usb cable and that is just witchcraft to me.

  15. Upgrading my rig to better run VR, however I consistently run into issues with powering my hotas and other peripherals.

The new mobo is an MSI MAG x570 tomahawk and I may require more USB 3 ports to power VR, HOTAS and more. Is there a way to expand more ports and if so how, I know PCIE expansion cards are a thing however I'm hesitent due to the devices being high power draw. which leads me on to USB hubs. can powered hubs provide enough power and data transfer while also being stable and reliable? as i am aware that sometimes peripherals do not play nice on hubs.

currently looking at the star tech hubs. thanks.

I don’t know if bomber mossies ever used 150 oct. Short-time top speed is not as important for bombers who rely more on a long duration high cruise speed not to be intercepted.

The ones who really needed the short top speed were the night fighters and day rangers/intruders. Night fighters experimented with NO2 to boost power during a chase. 150 octane was prioritized for FB.VI day rangers/intruders that really needed to outrun enemy fighters on the deck. 2 Merlins running at +25 must have been glorious excess of power!

150 would be great for the day fighters we currently have especially considering the performance of the 109 running mw50, shame it seems like a pipe dream that we will never have, the mustang and spitfire had some great gains on 150 octane

@zcrazyx 25lbs boost, for US plane it would be 80 InHg that is hell of the boost, mosquito would be fast, probably as fast as Dora or K-4 🙂

Just imagine the bomber which even Dora or K-4 could not catch up 😛

I'd love the B mk 9 mossie, apparently can do 350mph cruise at 30k ft. wonder what the range is. personally i'd love to proper nav and bombing runs with one using graphs and a nav computer.

25lbs in mossie oh that would be crazy. I may wrong but i think merlin at 25lbs has +2000 hp. That woulbe +4000hp crazy

interestingly it is still referenced in the manual, makes me wonder how fast a bomber mossie with 25lbs boost would be

  19. This looks amazing and i hope it ends up becoming an official product with a proffessional flight model. need some bomber action in mp. also will we be able to plan navigation and fuel burn with reasonable accuracy? how about bombing accuracy as it was more area of effect irl
