  1. I for one welcome our new datalink overlords. As someone who enjoys all of the FC3 fighter aircraft, I think that further implementing this partially done feature on the Su-27 is something that everyone would like. An upgraded cockpit (partially clickable) and enhanced avionics, like what is mentioned in this thread, is a must buy module for me. ED could release a version of SU-27 with a few clickable features and a more realistic and complete implementation of the avionics, with the same external and flight model, and I would be all over that. There could still be FC3, but with the option of FC3 plus if you want a detailed experience. I think that would strike the balance between sim quality and accessibility that will make DCS even better.
  2. Thanks for the tips, as for why I run out of fuel I generally reduce the amount I carry with a light loadout in order to fly at 14000 meters in order to give my ET, ER, and 77 follow-up long stick capability before absconding.
  3. Hello, I generally fly Russian aircraft and often find myself running out of fuel like a fool. What is the best way to glide at various altitudes? If I am below 1000 meters I will generally rise to 1000 then try to maintain a descent of 10 meters per second as indicated in HUD until I eject before impacting the ground. If I am higher, I try to maintain level flight until I hit about 400 knots airspeed then begin dropping at 10 meters per second. Is there a better way to get the optimum glide envelope in a no power situation? Is it always better to turn excess speed into altitude until you hit stall speed in order to minimize energy loss from drag?
  4. Hi, I get randomly dropped from your server regularly while playing. This does not happen on other servers. It can happen anywhere from 5 minutes in to 30 minutes in, I'll be flying then I am kicked in the server disappears in the browser when I try to rejoin. I don't think it's a server restart as it happens everytime I fly on the 104th and there aren't any chat announcements indicating that. Could it be something on my end?
  5. Mission design can minimize the effect of the purported exploits discussed in this thread. I really hope that larger maps are added into DCS, or an overhaul and expansion of Caspian. With longer flight times, people are less likely to play like a madman. Nevada is the epitome of this, full burner until I find bad guys, then full burner back to base. Of course it is a great map for campaigns and as a demonstrator for new technology, but I think that we need maps where it isn't like fighting inside a box. I stopped paying 2.0 because of the red team spawning in the air on many servers. Don't get me wrong, I like Nevada, but it isn't the theater for FC3 combat. Also, thought needs to be put into what is good mission design for multiplayer. I like the persistent servers the most, because you actually have an element of air superiority, rather than having the "A10/Su25" place and the FC3 fighter place. It requires more cooperation, and a superiority fighter is less likely to play like a maniac if they know that their presence is important for the ground push to deter enemy planes. People won't be so quick to roll into the AMRAAM if they know that if they die it's likely there will be ground attack planes that die soon after. In short, I don't claim to know what's going on with the planes as I am not very good, but I do know that thoughtful mission design and longer travel times will induce more realistic behavior in players. And I think that is more fun for everybody that is into this game, as there are many other games to play if you want sky COD. I think that changes in what is considered good mission design would minimize any supposed "exploits". To give some context from where I am coming from I usually fly the 29 with ETs and 77s when doing FC3, I enjoy having to put some thought into fuel management, limited countermeasures, limited missiles, and great acceleration allows for ET-77-turn-burn tactics. Sometimes you'll find me with the S-8 as well though on a server that has a good combined persistent air and ground combat area.
  6. Wow, seems that other countries would be better off just copying the Mig-21 and upgrading the avionics and weapons for a better plane, rather than trying to produce their own aircraft.
  7. Pepin, the Su-25 family cannot carry Kh-31. Need to be at least Mach 0.6 so the missile has sufficient velocity to build up to ramjet speed with initial solid booster. Edit: The Peruvian air force uses Kh-31A on their Mig 29SMT. Is there any evidence that Mig 29S could use R77 in real life? I think that Kh-31A on 29S is just as much of a stretch as R-77 on Mig 29S.
  8. I am a newcomer to DCS from the publicity of all the great new modules that have been coming out, and I have greatly enjoyed my purchase of FC3 over the past few months and the more recent NTTR. My question is as to why the Kh-31 missile is not allowed for player controlled aircraft in DCS. It was the first anti ship missile to be deployed on almost any tactical aircraft used by Russia and SU and for this reason I am surprised that it is not modelled. All I have found is that the RWR is not capable of using the anti-radiation version of it on FC3 aircraft and that for the antiship version requires a ground radar that isn't in the game. But for the ARM version I think the same modelling from the Su-25t could be ported, as the RWR appears to be the same ingame, and the sea skimming missile could use an easy lock-on-to-the-biggest-thing-I-see mode that would require 0 UI implementation and would add realistic functionality and new features to the game. In other words, I think that the Su-27 and Mig-29 need this antiship and SEAD functionality, even if in a basic and inerior form, as it would be relatively quick to implement, is realistic, and would add new and deep elements to DCS.
  9. So, tob.s, you gave money to the kickstarter and you want your money back because the product hasn't appeared yet? Hmm. Talk of a class action is frankly ridiculous. Good luck finding a lawyer to help you with your pursuit of 40$ for a largely international company. As people have said above, purchasing a pre-release beta is not a guarantee, especially with no hard timelines at all! Consider it money to charity if it doesn't appear, and an investment for the future of the game when it (and I believe it will) does come around.
  10. I don't care if the gunsights don't work! Who needs flaps? Just bring me the SEA EAGLE!
  11. I have this same behavior, but always thought it was normal. Perhaps this is to discourage using airbrake while landing, as airbrake is normally used to descend while at high altitiude to lower altitude, not on approach to strip. Extending airbreak with flaps could cause the plane to lose altitude unintentionally, causing an unexpected thlump into the ground. In the manual it talks about proper use of flaps, etc. for landing but I think that the idea is that airbrake is not appropriate for landing for whatever reason, so is disabled.
  12. I'm no expert, but I believe that in the vertical scan mode (3) you can just hold down the ENTER button and it will autolock if it finds something, so no need to spam enter. If I'm merged, I will either try to find with with infrared scan (passive, so you can shoot them with a 73 and they don't know you found them yet!), or the "HI" mode on the radar. I have heard conflicting information on which mode is best for all-aspect discovery at very close range though, so maybe "HI" is not the best but it's what I go to when in a panic. Barring these two methods, try to turn so that you can always keep an eye on where they're at! Try use the "S" key to do a crazy turn after the merge get eyes on the enemy. If you see them you can try to use the Helmet mounted sight with (5), but maybe only the mig-29 can do that. With the HMS you can fire an R-73 at some pretty crazy angles. Now if you can't get a lock on them, you can always try to use the "tone mode" (6), where you point your plane where they're at, you get a beeeeep, and then you fire a heater. I wouldn't use the HDD too much at all other than situational awareness for other incoming planes- most reliable option is trying to keep an eye on the enemy. Rather than looking at the computer you should be looking around the plane, looking for the bandit. Edit: I wouldn't use (6) unless the avionics have been damaged because you were hit. If you are hit and computer is down you can press (7) and the function will be the same although you will have only very basic HUD, point middle at bad guy, should hear a beep and you are good to go. This is one of the good things, often when you are given a glancing blow by Amraam you will still be flying and if you have visual, the (7) mode combined with the "S" key could still keep you deadly if you can find them visually. Can anyone confirm what happens to fly-by-wire when plane is damaged? If the computers are down, does pressing "S" have any effect? I/e if HUD and computer, radar, rwr, are down I would assume the fly by wire is not working and is same as in "S" mode?
  13. Did you turn the TV on? It might be required to have that on ("O" I think) and perhaps you have to turn a laser on, I don't remember. I want to say it's SHift-L but you might want to look that up. Been a while since I've flown the A, but it is a fun jet.
  14. http://uboat.net/boats/u512.htm Looks like it was used effectively in antisubmarine role
  15. Are you talking about the up, down, and neutral indicators next to the HUD? They've always worked for me, but I have only tried to do it in 1.5. If you're talking about the setup on the carrier, I've never tried to use it and you might be better off trying not to use it since it's only visible so late in the approach. I would guess that it doesn't work, but I may be wrong.
  16. I also have a russian HUD now. The larger problem is that my HUD gets stuck in RTN mode, no matter how many times I press 1 I cannot switch to any other navigation mode. This means that I can't cycle my waypoints or use the tactical view on the MFD for waypoints. However I can go radar or EO mode. This only happens after getting into a new aircraft after leaving the first one upon starting the game.
  17. OK, so I've been reading through some of the threads in this subforum and it seems that the Sea Eagle is planned to be implemented for the CC version when it is released, which hasn't happened yet. The only version out now is the trainer (EB?) version that doesn't have the Sea Eagle.
  18. OK thanks for explaining everyone. Turns out it was just smaller differences that I had noticed in regular play. Edit: Does anyone have any idea what the T version is that is mentioned in some documentation and ingame?
  19. Why are there so many different versions of the 29 in DCS? As far as I can tell, the A for instance is just the S without the ability to use the R-77 and a few other unguided rockets. Same for the G. Back in 1.2 at least there was the option to change the MFD function in the S that wasn't possible in the other versions. So, why are they there? Is there some other difference that I am not aware of? Is the A just the downgraded export version? Are the upgrades, such as increased fuel capacity and payload modeled in the S vs the A? So the G is the German version that has been made NATO capable, does this mean any change in game functionality? I have found references to a Mig 29T in the game but can't seem to find it elsewhere, or any info on it.
  20. Hello, I've read on the internet that the Chilean air force equipped their CASA C-101 withe BAE Sea Eagle anti ship sea skimming missiles. Is this implemented in the simulation here? If so, it would be the closest thing to an exocet or serious anti ship munitions we have in DCS, that I'm aware of. What sort of range and launch parameters can be expected for this? I currently only have FC3 but would really like to purchase this module if it has the Sea Eagle. What are the other anti ship options in DCS? Thanks
  21. I have the same problem- the icon often moves in the opposite direction you want it to as well. In order to beat that mission I had to use the unguided bombs to blow up those tanks, and use the AGM in places with less ground clutter.
