  1. I understood some of those words  So, there is nothing I can do about it, only endure it. EBS do you follow this thread?
  2. Hi guys, So, after a long time using the true blue english cockpit, I decided to up the realism a bit by changing to russian version. I know all those buttons from memory anyway, so it should not be a problem. But, after turning the instrument illumination on, this weird thing happens, anyone knows why? And how do I remedy that? I like to have that illumination on all the time.
  3. yes, no and yes. 1. lock=rangefind 3. no circumventing, why would you want that? 3. You are overthinking it. Just use the laser as needed but don't overdo it, don't lase unnecessarily. Install the mod I provided in my first answer and that will help you to understand what is happening.
  4. Hi 1. You don't always need to use rangefinder, or to lock a target. When attacking a group of enemies, lock the first one, get range and then only move shkval pipper to other targets in close proximity and fire away. That way you spare the rangefinding uses of laser, which are more demanding than actual missile guiding (AFAIK). 2. You should always wait for the 8-9sec period after using a rangefinder. That way, the laser has time to cool down before actually guiding a missile, which again, heats it up. 2.1. I like to use the RESET LA button right below HSI. After I see a hit on Shkval, and I am in close range <5km, I don't wait for the countdown to reach zero. There is no need to continue lasing when the target is hit already. So, by pressing this button I stop the lasing before the countdown. So, to sum it up: don't use laser rangefinder when you don't need to, cancel lasing when you see a Vikhr hit on Shkval. This all helps to prolong laser life. I don't sweat it thou, I don't follow these rules religiously, only lightly, and I don't exactly remember when was the last time my laser went off (maybe in april once? I dont know) Also, this awesome Devrim's mod helps a lot to understand what is happening with your laser> https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=93618
  5. do you want to set up "bands" in the saitek profile and each band will mean a different button is pressed? Let me know how that works, I cant do that. Each time I tried to do that, the saitek software went nuts, joystick kept repeating that keypress insanely fast to the point, where every application was affected and I had to restart my computer, NOT even dare to touch the rotary and select the rotary to "do nothing". Slight touch of the rotary when programmed this way, lead to insane response. But that may be because I use X-52, not X-55 like you.
  6. I'm also experiencing this. Only noticed this on an online server, but I'll check singleplayer also when I get back from work. E: it also does not work for Towns, NDBs, VORs, the search is empty.
  7. what 214tt_bungle_uk said. And also remember, that the most efficient way to climb is by going forward at 120km/h, while keeping your collective raised just enough to not engage the ENG RPM limiter. If you try to hover climb, that is not the way to go.
  8. My advice - use the wingmen to deal with Hinds and hide till the encounter is over. I struggled with this mission too, one time the situation was in my favour (or so I thought), but after my last winman shot down one hind and I had the other one locked, I thought that I won finally. NOPE. The Hind survived 3 direct hits with Vikhr missiles - A/A H/O mode ON ofc - and shot me down. So next time I focused on luring the hinds out of enemy SAMs and AAAs engagement range and ordered all wingmen to attack them, while I hid behind some ground cover. This finally worked. That was about 10th try on that mission. Another example was during the Medvedev campaign, where I destroyed enemy AAA threats. I don't remember which mission was that, it was beggining of the campaign, 3rd or 4th mission. There were 2x enemy Mi-8 patrolling the area. I engaged one of them, he tried running away. I used Ka-50 superior speed to catch him, so I was flying directly behind him, there was no sideslip. A/A mode on, I fired 11 Vikhrs out of which 7 hit him till he went down. The damage model on enemy air targets is ridiculous. One Vikhr to take down one T-72, but 7 Vikhrs to take down one Mi-8.
  9. I almost never land straight down. That takes a lot of time and patience, which I dont have. I am not saying that it is wrong, it can be done and is good for practice and for the feeling of the onset of VRS. You must not descend faster than 2-3m/s, or you are screwed. Landing on a FARP or in a tight spot is better done by utilizing rolling landing method. Approach a FARP while descending and slowing down. You just need to practice, there is no solid method I can write here. Adjust your nose to about +5°, this will help you slow down and descend at about 4-5m/s, start doing this about 500m from FARP, adjust angle and descend rate as required. You should approach FARP at about 30km/h and in stable altitude at about 20-30m. Landing then is a breeze and feels natural (for me atleast). EDIT: when descending while having forward airspeed, you dont need to worry about VRS, so you can descend, say at 10m/s and you are okay, helicopter is stable and controllable. Just make sure, your speed is not below 100km/h when descending that fast.
  10. try funnel. I like doing funnel around a minaret. Also try to fly backwards, sideways, etc. Flying sideways while pointing your nose precisely at the enemy can save your butt someday. Also good practice is doing a low level high-speed flight and trying to stop as fast as possible without gaining too much altitude or crashing. Also landing in small or tight areas is challenging. I started with landing on a football field (which was hard enough, when I started with this sim!), then I landed on some big building (looked like a hospital), then smaller buildings, ships, then I even tried to land on a chimney, I failed miserably after an hour-long struggle (don't do that, it's impossible). Ka-50 is very nimble, it can do barrel rolls, loops, you can try them all. Or, maybe those are not good practice actions, it's just what I like to do.
  11. I am currently playing Ka-50 Medvedev campaign, but when I return to Mi-8 and get to this mission, I will crush those guys with wheels supermario-style:megalol: Thanks for advice, guys
  12. Fun? After taking a hit? I always end up sweaty and exhausted. Not cheerful and happy as I am when having fun. What am I doing wrong?
  13. exactly :D http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/adult-incontinence-man-wet-patch-front-his-trousers-symbolizing-59621657.jpg
  14. I wrote alt AP channel, by which I meant altitude hold AP channel. Not flight director mode. Flight director "disables" - or better word will be overrides - other AP channels, but the dampening system works as before. So you're kinda right. Disabling all AP channels is when they are all unlit and it is not recommended to fly the black shark this way. But you can try, every training helps. And they will disable when you are returning to base with battle damage. Pressing the collective brake overrides the 20% alt hold authority (similar to pressing and holding the trimmer) and it sets new RA altitude as you said. It is also doable as you said in the last sentence, by only raising and then lowering the collective after the obstacle was passed. So, pick your own style and practice to make it effective :) There is no solid way to fly the beast, if it works effectively for you, then it is a good flying style.
  15. Indeed it does. 20% authority is not much. Even if you set your airspeed to 100km/h and alt hold on 100m RALT, you can not be 100% sure, that you can go and make a coffee while route mode takes you home. I don't fly like this anymore, but when I did, I used collective brake to overcome obstacles with alt AP channel on. Try it, that is how it is supposed to work.
