  1. you're like the last defender of the sword wielding knight as the world discovers machine guns "b-but your machine gunner can't tank a sword strike! checkmate!" its time to let go.
  2. long shot... but make sure your steam client is updated once upon a time i had ignored steam update for weeks and discovered some il2 licenses had disappeared. updating the client made them reappear.
  3. this is still a far cry from the ad-hoc TOO engagements that gamers are desirous of. prompt TOO engagement capability is prized because the typical format of the game boils down to a footrace to see who can complete the chain from zero intel to kill faster than the competition. in reality, this is a cooperative task for the entire military, but for the gamer, it is typically a miniaturized and personal battle that starts on arrival at the ao and is fought against fellow competing gamers and self-expectation. the typical a2g player is no less competitive about racking up his own score than any a2a pvper (perhaps even more so), and its from this narrowly self-serving perspective that many people judge the competency of an a2g platform. i consider it important to identify this tendency so to avoid conflating it with any discussions of realistic fidelity.
  4. if i ever held my breath on any of cobras remarks i would be dead a hundred times over
  5. i think is not worthwhile to attack this subject from the realism angle but rather from a sociological angle. i have come to terms with the fact that most enthusiasts adopt a hobby for its aesthetics. for them, the airplane is a fashion statement of their taste and values. that's why its important for them to be able to adjust the minutiae, because a "personal gun convergence" is a personal expression. what reality and history say is immaterial whenever they fail to serve this objective of personal expression.
  6. i dont care much for the fact that modders want to concentrate more power within their own hands. sorry not sorry but im interested in where ed is gonna take dcs, not where enigma wants to take dcs
  7. how big does your ecm antenna need to be to jam awacs frequencies?
  8. this dude made like 3 separate threads over this skin this is the way we lose our freedom betrayed by the petty tyranny of our peers
  9. suddenly im interested in acquiring this addon
  10. limitation may not be so much dictated by the kinematic potential of the missile but by the capabilities of the tracking and guidance antennae. from my reading a lot of these sams have maximum elevation limits for their antenna and so cover more of a torus than a hemisphere

    More keybinds

i would like to see official support for axis binds for radio and asp sight controls etc.
  12. one would think you would have learned by now by the amount of times you've gotten as a reply to always post a trackfile any time you have a problem, because your descriptions of your problems are so incredibly vague as to be essentially useless for diagnosis. post a trackfile. in the meantime: ensure the NVS MODE 3 position switch left of your left knee is in the middle NORM position, not the forward FIXED position ensure your ihadss boresight was done correctly -- this means that your ihadss crosshair is in the center of the bullseye, not simply that the bullseye rings are centered.
  13. you have rockets selected for both the cpg and yourself at the same time? i think the cpg in this case actually has control of the rockets and that might explain why nothing is happening?
  14. sad to see though that it looks like the cockpit textures will be mig-19 tier with the crudely exaggerated paint chipping effect that ends up making everything look like its made of crumbling concrete instead of painted metal.
  15. at least in reality i can tell my friend to stow it with the star wars jester is not my friend its just a crutch for when i'm not flying online. i simply wish it would stop trying to pretend its something that it isn't and will never be. developing some kind of parasocial relationship least of all with a dumb video game mockery of a human is something alarming to me. i will never encourage it. as much as i enjoy the momentary transport of immersion and roleplay, i think its incredibly important to maintain a separation between fiction and reality.
  16. i know its dangerous, that's why i think it's interesting. you can harp on about how the world order we grew up with is under threat of getting violated left and right but those rules you're talking about? they are only going to be as good as your ability to enforce them. if this genie can't be kept in the bottle you damn well better have the biggest and baddest genie in the room. you mention nukes, well its exactly why we need the most nukes even if we never want to have to use them. it doesn't take much to realize we've already been comfortably living with monsters for some time now -- what's one more? yeah i'm scared of this development and all that it implies but i just think the best way to face it is to tackle it before it tackles you.
  17. what i found most interesting from the interview is essentially an admission that "we need to throw out all the rules, because our enemies are not going to play by them." gunpowder took centuries before it fully replaced the sword, but it was nevertheless inevitable. i would be cautious of being dismissive of these new ai powered capabilities.
  18. open the cabin door then issue the eject command to leave
  19. with regards to "simulated fatigue" i think we will just have to accept this area as a limit of the medium. its like how some people try to keep suggesting simulations of the suppressive effect of gunfire in fps games, but time and again it's proven that it simply doesn't work. if the player behind the screen doesn't feel the fear or pain, then they aren't going to do the things that fear or pain makes them do and the dissonance between what you want to do and what you are forced to do will just feel like frustrating developer sadism rather than a genuine internalized experience. i personally think you will literally have to wait until we have some interface that can directly stimulate nerves and induce a nervous response to get that authenticity. i have definitely encountered before a segment of the audience asking for these sorts of features who only do so because they know (or worse, merely believe) it would only disadvantage their opponents and thus yield them the preference in a match, and i think it to be a destructive and unsporting attitude seldom grounded in any true interest in the improvement of the product.
  20. the airplane is angery with you because you are not doing what it likes to do which is flying wide circles fast. you need to pass the enemy with more separation and run up on his tail. if you see a lot of his top side that is a bad sign and your attack geometry is wrong. when you start feeling like a little kid peeking up a skirt then you are doing it right

    area/point

imo the closest thing the apache has to area track is via hitting the store button after lasing the range. this creates a coordinate in memory that can be slaved to regardless of line of sight.

    Unflyable?

i dont recommend putting your collective on an axis unless you have a very long extension. if you cant be dialing in 1-2% collective requests at a time you are asking for trouble as the engine management will not be able to keep up with high rates of collective changes. if you are having instability even in a mudhen there's something wrong on your end. try ctrl+enter and see what your controls are actually outputting.
