  1. I suppose it does. Very useful in quick mission creation..
  2. What I've been doing is creating all of the ground objects for an airfield as a single group to help simplify the number of groups in the mission. I'd like to see if I can activate an individual airport when a player approaches it, then deactivate once they leave, to also help with any performance issues.

  4. Are you placing them as a "static" object or as a vehicle group? I've found placing things as a vehicle group helps with FPS quite a bit. I have three airfields populated fully and more to come and haven't seen any significant FPS drop
  5. I think the stock models have that as well. I'm not sure its on your end. Are you going to release these skins? For sure going to make for some great mission making!

  9. I think they've been fairly clear that they're not going to release this as a module or third party or whatever... Not sure why it's still up for discussion.
  10. I appreciate the votes of confidence, but my skills are so-far limited to simple polygons and structures... Maybe eventually I'll move onto vehicles and aircraft. I think I want my first static aircraft project to be an An-2, we'll see UPDATE: Been working on a new structure for the factory complex, I'll probably continue to add some detail to it, but I want to keep the poly's low so they don't destroy frames too badly. Again, I have only a vague clue how to port these into DCS, nor have I made a damaged/destroyed model. I've had a lot of down-time on this trip, so I've been putting it to good(ish) use.
  11. Update: Factory is done, I need to make the destroyed model now, probably just going to be a pile of rubble. I want to do a forge/smokestack, and maybe some smaller buildings, and a security fence/wall that people can place and make their own factory complexes for mission creation. Also have no idea how this model will perform or how big of a file it will be (there are a few textures), nor how to export it into DCS. This is what it looks like now:
  12. On a side note, does anyone know if buildings can have a 'damaged' model and a 'destroyed' model or is it just the latter?
  13. I honestly have no idea... I know I'll need to somehow convert this to an EDM file(?) to insert it, but right now I'm just working on learning to model and texture while I'm on the road for work. This laptop won't come close to running DCS, so I won't be able to see how to add the asset until i get home.
  14. Update: So I've reworked the whole thing, and have applied textures to the model. I still need to finish some of the exterior details, maybe add some faux-interior pieces and want to explore the wide world of lighting. Then a damaged/destroyed model and try to add it into DCS. I think eventually I might do a whole series of factory buildings for people to make a complex for strategic attacks
  15. That's part of the plan. I'd like to work my way up to modeling static aircraft to populate airfields with, like 737s and Gulfstreams. I also want more strategic targets to be able to attack like factories, depots, and power plants which would be likely to be well defended and make for good mission creation. I still have so much to learn about this stuff
  16. So I have no clue what I'm doing, but I've been inspired by a lot of you to pick up some 3D modeling to try my hand at, and possibly lend some objects to the DCS world. My first attempt is a factory building, based roughly on a tank repair facility from the cold war in Ukraine. I've not fully finished the model or attempted to really texture it, but I added some color to give you an idea of what it will eventually look like. Comments and tips are appreciated and I'll certainly be looking for help in the future!

  21. Like many others, I'm excited for the new terrain engine to be released, mostly from a visual standpoint more than anything else. One of the things that's always bothered me, though, is how all the airfields in the simulation are devoid of any ground service equipment or infrastructure. For example, Sochi-Adler is a highly developed international airport, but has no terminal building. I personally enjoy populating my airfields within missions to look and feel "alive" with parking stands, refueling or rearming operations underway, abandoned equipment pushed to a corner of the airfield, etc. For me, it's just another level of immersion. ED did a great job on Las Vegas and the NTTR map with populating airfields. Could we expect to see the Caucasus map brought up to this standard or is it merely a terrain engine upgrade?

  24. Well slap me, silly! What an amazing depth you all have reached. I recently went to ground school to get rated on some WWII warbirds, and had a great conversation with a guy from Texas who owns a MiG-15, -17, -21, and an A-4. He said by far the A-4 is the most fun to fly - I can't wait for your mod... hopefully we get the AI models to insert into missions ahead of time!
