  1. OK, I

ll check it out, thanks. BUt the Tomcat doesn't have an EADI so what then?

Also (I don't know who GB is) but GB says "you can do any shape pattern you like" which might be fine in the open air over the ocean in a military setting but ashore, say coming into a civilian US airport, the FAA isn't going to want you to do any shape pattern you like when they tell you to do a hold.

Then why did you ask this in the supercarrier forum? Expect to get carrier related answers here. And here's turn indicator in the 14.

  2. AAQ-13 may be a block 40 thing but I've recently been told of a pod-less TFR type system that used the digital terrain database. Is that system ever used on Block 50 or older?

Yes, It's a pretty old system called the Digital Terrain system. It has these features.

    terrain referenced navigation (TRN)

predictive ground collision avoidance system (PGCAS)

    database terrain cueing (DBTC)

    obstacle warning and cueing (OWE)

    passive ranging (PR)

  3. The person you're replying to is talking about DCS and the current state of the 18 and 16's EA jhmcs and why the A-10 II got some love before the teens. And Scorpion is used by some older US F-16s.

Easy way to tell between jhmcs and scorpion is the sensor location for scorpion is at the top of the canopy like on this blk 30.

  4. There are a couple of reasons for that...

    A.) Money

    B.) Mission

A.) The JHMCS does everything necessary for the vipers mission. Spending money on "new and shiny" needs to be kept in check...switching to a different system requires aircraft testing And certification. ($$$) aircrew training ($$$) maintenance ($$$)

B.) The Scorpion system is unnecessary fluff for the F-16 mission. That's why they weren't adopted.

  5. That's exactly my problem. The contrasts generated by the auto function are useless. Usually I slew my TGP onto something that might look like a target and then it changes, literally fading away all the contrast it had just before. But I never managed to get a decent setting manually either.

And it all was daytime, somwhere around 1400-1600, clear skies.

BTW Taking Screenshots works again after that session. Don't know what went wrong there. Still miss my Fraps though. And Dxtory doesn't work either. For other games I'm literally stuck with the Windows Game Bar at the moment unless they have an own screenshot function.

Auto gain right now seems like it doesn't exist. It's more like a preset gain level atm. However when manually adjusting the gain I can get a pretty decent picture, comparable to the a10.

  6. What I mean is you have to hold the weapons release button down in CCIP until the bomb drop cue passes through the velocity vector to release a weapon. That can take quite a while sometimes once you’ve designated the target I was just wondering if there was a way to toggle it rather than having to hold the weapons release button continuously

DTOS can do that but it's not implemented yet.

  7. What I'm getting from the couple threads on this is that while they may or may not be currently wired to support HARM/Mav on 4/6, it is technically possible for those stations to be wired for HARM/Mav.

Therefore I think that ED should allow the use of HARM/Mav for the people that want to on stations 4/6. We need to remember that, while a very realistically modeled simulator, DCS is still a game. The people that want to fly a more modern COIN loadout where loiter time is useful can choose to put fuel tanks on 4/6. The people that want to sling HARM/Mav on 4/6 can choose to, with the added bonus of getting to manage your fuel.

    My rambling:

The more hardcore simmers can complain about the people not using fuel tanks on 4/6 but remember that those people are the ones that help grow DCS and eventually some move on to the more hardcore squadrons. Believe me, I poke fun at Hornets with 8x JSOW's too. And a lot of those new players will eventually join the more hardcore squadrons that fly with more restricted loadouts, thus growing the hardcore side as well. I used to be one of them. I'm now the type of person that enjoys a 20 minute Case III pattern and getting that commit time down to within 10 seconds. Now I am in a squadron that flies missions bi-weekly with a game master and restricted loadouts. This works because you're flying as a organized squadron with a set objective.

However, by far the most of my game time is flying quick sorties on "casual" servers when I have some free time during the day. I bet most DCS multiplayer players are the same. I say this because of my experience on a popular DCS server. The server used to be one of the more popular DCS servers. They recently implemented loadout restrictions and the server population has plummeted. As I'm typing this the server only has 9 people in it, on a US Friday evening. It would almost always be full at this time on a US Friday evening before the loadout restrictions.

Finally, I have some pictures for people that think anything but fuel tanks on 4/6 are unrealistic, even during a shooting war.

  8. Would be great to have something like on the Harrier where you can carry both and switch in flight (but it takes about 3 mins and you can’t make any violent maneuvers)!

I would rather have JHMCS II :)

But I think it came a few years after the currently modeled 18.

  9. I first noticed this bug on 2.5.6.54046 Open Beta.

I am using the controls "DOGFIGHT/Missile Override Switch - DOGFIGHT/CENTER" and "DOGFIGHT/Missile Override Switch - MISSILE OVERRIDE/CENTER" to command and cancel Missile override and Dogfight override.

    For this example a F16 with 2x GBU12 on station 3/7 and 1x GBU10 on station 4/6 with a tgp loaded as well. AIM120c on 1/9/8 and AIM9x on 2.

Scenario 1: Select A-G mode on the ICP.

SMS page on right MFD select CCRP. GBU12 will be selected by default.

Bring up your TGP on an unused page on the left MFD.

DMS aft until your TGP is SOI.

TMS right to command a area track or TMS forward to command a point track.

Slew the TGP off of where it was, creating a SPI offset from your initial steerpoint.

SMS page on right MFD press OSB 6 to cycle bomb types to GBU10.

The TGP/SPI will reset to pointing back at the steerpoint as if cursor zero was commanded.

Scenario 2: Select A-G mode on the ICP.

Command Missile override or Dogfight override.

Cancel Missile override or Dogfight override.

The TGP/SPI will reset to pointing back at the steerpoint as if cursor zero was commanded.

  10. It would be cool if, with no AGR available, aiming methods actually change their source of info, like it's modelled in the Viggen.

I wonder how different it is from the 16 since the 18 doesn't have DTS but I believe in the 16 the priority goes TGP laser ranging > AGR > DTS passive ranging > RALT > steerpoint elevation/bara altitude difference.
