  1. The server is hosted in LA (West Coast, USA), and I believe is 10Mb up and down. I'll ask someone to pop the spec's here for you.
  2. well... if "someone" develops an open source communication standard for interoperability between engines, and a common co-ordinate system (distances, times, xyz location) is shared across this, then independant software developers can output multiplayer traffic in accordance to this system. difficult for a for-profit software developer to do?..yes.... but less difficult (ironically) for a mod group, or open sourcer to do.... independant development with a common set of tools could lead to this...and as "home dev" tech gets better and better as the years get by, it could happen..and be free... just look at some of the amazing work ppl in this community are doing for free.. ..of course, it will never be as "tight" as a fully funded under-one-roof project, but community made content is where it's at these days anyway right?
  3. We have looked into using the tool for past events, and were VERY impressed with it's fuctionality, however, to use such a tool effectively on a public server requires: - someone to act as tower over multiple airfields OR - several someones to act as tower over an airfiled - EVERYONE on the server must be on voice comms - EVERYONE on voice comms must have a "whisper to xyz" key set to talk to tower - the tower must have a "Whisper to 123" key for EVERY client (or an alternative comms method...there must be a better way in TS3 now) Thats a lot of work for a public map, Still, Definately worth considering some "special" nights on the server...
  4. map and concept looks amazing Grimes, may it inspire both players and mission designers to push the limits going forward !
  5. flags and triggers are the only way of having "dynamic" and statefull logic in the game ... In theory, it should be possible to use flags (and thereby simple boolean logic) to implement complicated rules, such as a basic implementation of "capture the flag". ...perhaps a nice little project for someone to look into?
  6. ED do not own the distribution rights for LOMAC, so they can't do that :)
  7. not IR, the only warning you get is from the Laser Warning system (top left of cockpit, the 4 red lights). Several of the AA systems in the game, and / or vehicles in the game use LAsers to range you and assist with targeting, or even weapons guidance (just like your own weapon systems!)... AAA, BMP's, mainline tanks and other Helicopters to name a few. If you get a "Warning, Under Attack!" message from the Ekran (voice message system), look to the top left og the cockpit, you will see 1 or more of the red lights are lit...this indicates the direction that the laser energy is beein emmited from...it usually indicates something is targetting you, and may also mean a missile is on the way.... Some systems will only use laser energy to range you, and then launch non laser guided weps at you (Tanks main gun, or AAA shells), either way though, if you get that warning, react FAST ... determine what direction it is coming from, and move away from it ASAP.
  8. *snapped by by Cp!* Hi there, - No, the Shkval is not capable of auto target acquisition... the scan mode will simply pan the shkval camera left to right (at a rate that can be set faster or slower) in order to allow the pilot hands off scanning. The pilot must still manually slew the shkval to any potential target. Once the pilot has locked the shkval to a target however, it will then remain locked (by using a system of contrast discrimination with a visible light camera) unless the cameras limits are exceeded. Automatic turn to target will work if a target is locked in the Shkval and the Auto assistant channels are enabled and flight director mode is off. - If you cannot see the SAM, then it is very hard to lock it with the shkval, as it is a tv / visible light system, and what you see is what it see's! However, if you can judge where the SAM is without seeing it (perhaps from a missile trail you saw earlier and evaded), you can point and range the targeting system , and set manual mode for weapons release. If you are within 8 km's, and remain perfectly locked onto the target area (ie do not move the heli, or make sure to compensate for any movement by reverse slewing the shkval), you can launch the vhikr "blind" - its totally awesome, I fully agree.. yes, ED have (very loose!) plans to add additional Helo's to the game... so far on "the list" are the AH64a (Apache), and the Mi24 (Hind) ... there is some preliminary cockpit work in progress screen shots around the place if you search..pretty exciting stuff!
  9. focus on BS was not multiplayer. ED's recources will eventually get to MP specific improvements further down the line.
  10. hmm..well, you shouldn't have to open any ports for multplayer client (you will to run as a host though). I "Think" the server browser uses port 80 (http) to pull info from the master server browser ... I'm not sure exactly what the master server address is, but if your computer is having troubles with resolving (dns probs), you could see what you are getting. MY advice to you is to double check and update your DNS setting from your ISP (check your current DNS server settings agains what your ISP says you should be using), then, if all is well that end, simply try clearing your DNS resolver cache (ipconfig /flushdns) . It could be that simple, as I remember having DNS issues at my ISP affect my ability to get results from Black Shark multiplayer, even though all other browsing was working fine. Goiod luck!
  11. you'll need to experiment yourself, but it "seems" pretty straight forward.. The X = value is the limit on the X axis , the y values is the Y axis, the z values are the limits on the Z axis. Judging from the lack of symetry in some of the values, I think it can be assumed ED are using an "X Up" approach, where the X axis is up and down, Y axis is forward and back, and Z axis is left and right ... just tweak the limits inwards towards 0 (for eg. try z = {-0.2,0.2} ) and see if that helps you..if you need less movement still, set the upper and lower limits closer to 0...for more movement, then extend the distance from 0 for the limits. If someone can corect whic Axis are which , that'd be great, as I do not have access to a FC2 machine to test personaly.
  12. would also be pretty excited to hear next planned module, BUT, am even more (like 500 x more) excited to see the producers notes series starts for the cHog , ...... call me a button pressing obsesive, but I cannot wait to see the full startup sequence.
  13. Well, don't panic...compatibility updates (for TIR) are surely only days away... Try "update games" in the TIR software, and one of these days FC2 will pop up there garunteed.
  14. Hiya Deadsmell, Theres two , pretty easy ways of doing this that I can think of: 1) create a simple mission, with 1 AI aircraft, and one player aircraft.... set waypoints up for the AI aircraft, and practise flying formation with it? 2) grab a buddy and fly online with them, and practise your formation flying with a real pilot.... great fun, believe me!
  15. yes, this has been discussed in a seperate thread somewhere, but..yes it can be.
  16. Hi Nic!, there are two approaches to this, I rekon. 1) honestly, you'll be doing yourself a favour by setting up your own profile..using other peoples is a headache, and may not make logical sence to you..of course the side benefit of doing it yourself, is that it will imprint on your memory that much better (ps..small tip, also write down what bottuns etc do what on a piece of paper for quick reference ...) 2) rather than using the SST profiling software, you can assign button presses (including a modifier, ie the pinkie button) directly in game. The advantage to this, is you never have to remember to load up your profile, because it'll allways be there :).. I also have some....dislikes about the SST software, and I think it can be a bit of a problem child sometimes, so better off to cut it out of the loop when you can! Good luck with it at any rate, I've not seen the FC2 key layout yet, but if it is anything like in Black Shark, then you can filter controls in the settings screen to show what the "real world" controls are on the HOTAS , which can be a good starting point. Good luck!
  17. ..not that I can tell anyone how they should set their stuff up, but , using Z axis as zoom (even in FC) is less usefull than mapping the Zoom axis to ..well..another device axis, or even as digital zoom in / out on button presses... Having to maintain a zoomed in view by leaning forward for even a short period of time is ..well...not good, as your very small head movements will become very big head movements at that zoom level especially if you are leaning forward...and also,. you could get a sore back / neck ;) So yeah, like in BS (if you fly it), leave the Z Axis of tir assigned to the Z-axis head movement, and use another setup for zoom (for eg, I use the slider on my x52 throttle for this, however, most ppl in my squad use hat's to zoom in / out / reset zoom level) All IMHO of course, but yeah, hopefully it'll help some out.
  18. the only alarm you should get when switching to RPM auto is the "rotor RPM" alarm, and that should only be for a few seconds as the rotor RPM increases through the alarm threshold. Make sure that you do not have anything mapped to the "Throttle" axis at all (so that only pgup and pgdn can control) , also make sure that your rotor pitch angle (controlled by the collective) is at near 0.. Double check your procedure and make sure you are not setting Low RPM governor for rapid decent (switch can be seen on the collective handle). Make sure all of your electrics are on, and the EEG governors are on If in doubt further, I FULLY advise you whatch Miguez´s fantastic startup tutorial video (can be found on these forums) , it is without doubt one of the most complete video guides to the process around, and will help you a lot.
  19. might be a bit early for that yet?...I imagine a new update of tacview will come out soonish to address?
  20. you can put smoke generators on the ground on DCS :).. I know that doesn't help, but..ya know, just adding to the general conversation......
  21. lol....Happy birthday mate!
  22. Hmm, well, be sure to check which ingame "mode" you are setting up for...there is a "Game" mode, and a "Simulator" mode...these are two seperate binding setups, and if you are setting up one, then running the game in another, this coukd account ofr the issues you are experiencing? You can see what Binding set you are currently manipulating by checking up top, there is a drop down that can be changed between the two.
  23. I believe it is the day number (ie day 96 or day 98), however I cannot remember where the numbering starts from...possibly mid summer northern hemisphere...
  24. Steady on champ :)... this is an evolving product, and very advanced feature sets (such as this) are getting added as the series continues.. It's enough (for now) for this to be By Far the most advanced modelled aircraft in the virtual skies ... let the further enhancements come when they will ...and be assured, they will be coming ...
