yo yo made the damage model in the game AFAIK, that is what he is talking about .. the same in the game as IRL. heh

I think it means that randomly spawning (at map run) Air Defence units are seeded lower....so statistically lowering the amount and probability of air defence in a given mission.

I normally forget the rotor brake, fwiw

Hi Broxis, The problem is you are not going to the "axis commands" section of the controls setup. It is the item highlighted in green on the drop-down selections when you go to controls. In there you should select the "Collective" control (NOT throttle), and then move the X52 throttle axis to asign it. If the control assignment accepts button presses, then it is NOT the axis contrl section, but some other section :)

the NVG and Helmet mounted site are activated using the same key "H" , as only one of them can be mounted on your helmet at a time. If the mission starts in daylight hours, then you will automatically be given the HMS...if it is dark, you will automatically be given the NVG. You can, however, request one or the other from the maintainence crew if you know, for eg, that you will be transitioning into dark. (dont forget to change the radio selecto dial to "ground crew" to request) "Officially" if in darkness on the ground you should have the Beacon light to warn nearby you are rotors active, then of course the NAv lights and Wing tip and formation lights if fenced out. As for in the cockpit, you can either use the cockpit light "K", or the dim/blue night light "ctrl-k" ...you can also turn on the backlighting for panels and instruments (internal lighting switches are all on the right wall panel lower back, except the cockpit light with is on the rear left shoulder wall) If using the NVG, I suggest to use the internal Night lighting, turn off any other cockpit illumination, turn the brightness of the Abris and Shkval and HUD almost all the way. The Shkval won't "lock" onto anything in darkness, however, you can sometimes make stuff out .. in that case you will need to ground stabilise the shkval, las target, and then select "manual" launch mode ..make sure you are within parameters..and you can still launch.

Quick way to disable fullscreen in .cfg or .lua?
nemises replied to trueman832's topic in Bugs and Problems
looks like Graphics.cfg in the Config directory.. For each mode (interface, simulation, avi) , looks like you can set res, depth, fullscreen and aspect ratio. In your case, change the "fullscreen" value to "0" on all I guess? Good luck.. -
wow...that was extremely comprehesive! Very very well done .. clear and professional. Good luck if you choose to go forward with this series

AC power outage due to low RPM perhaps?
-
^^ yeah, is aimed at Nellis airbase in Nevada, home of the legendary "Red Flag" excersizes, and also, supposedly a new areas within which the A10's training will take place (not 100% though)...so, nothing to do with Blackshark directly, allthough, if it is flyable for the A10, it will also be flyable for the BS

Excellent suggestions all

cyclic collective and joystick set up
nemises replied to eskeemer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The Collective increases and decreases the angle of attack of the rotor blades, causing them to create more or less lift / torque. The Cyclic changes the angle of the rotor hub, which has the effect of tilting the rotor blades which causes roll or pitch. Map the collective Axis to your X45's throttle Map the Cyclic Axis (plural) to your X45 Joystick X and Y Map the rudder Axis to your stick's twist (Z) axis (unless you have rudder pedals of course!) Use the button assignment in game rather than using a saitek profile for simplicity...it is much more intuitive IMHO. I think the X45 will be fine to play Blackshark with, no need for a new joystick! Good luck! .. and be aware that there are 2 seperate contrl assignments...1 for "Game" mode, and 1 for "Real" mode .. these are completely seperate, so make sure you set up the controls in the correct one for which you are going to play! -
^^ sheesh...buzzkiller

yes, the brake handle should "squeeze" inwards when applying the brake ... Go into your axis controls, select "wheel brake" , click on "Axis Tune" down the bottom there click on and select the "invert" option. I had to invert for the toe-brake axis on my Saitek pedals also.
-
...so in answer to your question, yes, the collective brake "jams" the Collective in place.. However, you may still want to increase collective in a tight turn, as going off axis by 45 degrees will have a very real impact on your lift vector, and you will most likly start losing altitude (unless you are going quite fast).

Great stuff ... a good review.

Helmet-mounted sight - When/how often do you use it?
nemises replied to Jack McCoy's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
yeah, good point... if using an analogue control (axis) , then that would be much better. I use the micromouse on my x52 for Shkval control on LOMAC, but wanted to keep it clear for "clicking around the cockpit" in BS...however, I actually use my mouse for that (take my hand off the cyclic), so might look at assigning the micro-stick axis to shkval slewing in BS also. -

I also use it all the time for rough targetting, or AA threats... fine tune with the shkval slews, which are too slow for any broadstroke work. -
inactive just means you are not curently mid-campain

...really?...they totally shoot at me

probably just the fact that that Actual throttle / condition levers are analogue, even though they are used in a "digital" fashion. If you've got Axis to burn (ie a quadrant throttle), then I gues it' be kinda neat, but without spare axis, might as well use pg-up and pg-dwn

Hiya DJ, welcome back to the fold! :) You could add some rudder pedals (saitek , or CH) if you wanted to complete that setup, but you definately have the most important parts (trackir and a hotas). The best solution for the over-run of commands, in my opinion, is to write them down on a bit of paper... I actually ended drawing a stick figure representation of my X52, and writing on the functions with a line going to each button, lol... The easiest way to know what to map is to actually filter your commands in the options down to the contrls "INS Cyclic" and "INS Collective" , and map from there....maybe add a couple of extras like "uv26 start program" for flare dispencing. At the end of the day though, apart from the Cyclic and Collective buttons, every other control is gonna be mouse-click in cockpit. ...you sure learn how to get a stable hover quickly enough when you have to heads down and cockpit click :) There are quite a number of posts on the forum with very in depth info as to how to get the 2nd monitor working... a quick search should get you up and going

(I use "Zoom" on that slider)

oh really?..I thought it was a mapable Axis also *edit* yep, there they are, "left throttle" , "right throttle" and "throttle" are all bindable Axis... guess thats for those with a Quadrant throttle, lol..
