The voice chat and squad feature in BF2 (I play Project Reality from time to time) makes teaming up with strangers so much easier than having to jump on a teamspeak server. I guess this would be ultra low priority but it for sure is something that made BF2 great as a game. I don't know how useful the feature in IL2 is, as I never used it there.

I have a Vista64 english version plus german keyboard and german DCS: Black Shark. I am waiting for the german patch. Usually one has to install the language version of the patch that matches the language version of the game. The keyboard or windows version should not matter at all. But be careful, if you set english or US or so in the regional settings in Vista instead of german you will have some errors in Black Shark (I had to change my regional settings to german, because of my german DCS: Black Shark version). There is posts mentioning this on this forums. I am not good at explaining...

I understand that the training tracks have to be re-done to get up to standard of the release version. I am also happy with ED's choice of providing only videos for future modules. Videos seem more practical anyway as they can be forwarded/rewinded more easily. Don't missunderstand me there, the training tracks really helped me get into this sim. Maybe some video player can be added into the DCS interface to play training videos instead. EDIT: Btw, thanks for keeping us informed!

Jet Thunder will simulate British Harriers in the Falklands War: http://www.thunder-works.com/news.htm I hope the two sims will complement each other with DCS allowing me to extend my interest in helicopters and JT finally giving me the chance to VTOL in a Harrier on a carrier.

If you have the German DVD Version you need this patch/hotfix for the ABRIS to show town names http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=38949 Btw. thanks for pointing it out! I reinstalled here and forgot about the hotfix, all the time wondering how people are navigating so well in multiplayer...

I only created a new Text Document by right clicking in that folder and then renamed it to the name given in the original post (I used lower case file ending .lua). Then I double clicked the file to open it and copy-pasted the code from and including the line "Description...." to the final "}" into that file and saved it. Then in the game options you have a new option for Camera or what it is called. And in the cockpit you have to power up the ABRIS and Shkval to see the monitors in the corners of the screen. So it's pretty straight forward.

very cool, now I hope I'll have to do less eye squeezing and neck straining when looking at the shval or the abris, thank you! EDIT: also gives some nice Apache'esque feeling when scanning with the Shkval locked to the helmet :-D

Observed behaviour I. In the Ground Crew Training track, the instructor mentions some wind speed as 20 m/s while the German text lists 20 km/h. II. F-keys description texts shown in the track are inconsistent with the ones in the game. I know this is only a minor issue. But maybe it can be fixed in the patch, hopefully without re-recording the whole track. How to reproduce 1. Install german DVD version 2. Patch with town name hotfix 3. Start the Ground Crew communication training track 4. Witness minor text inconsistencies Appreance Always.

Yup, thanks Ulrich and Airway! Airway's screenies with german text made me aware that I was seeing english menus (I am used to english games so I did not realize). Changing the Windows locale to German fixed the issue.

Ok, finally it was my time to start the first single mission, switch off the 3 auto pilot shiny buttons, lift off to fly some turns around the FOB, before crashing into the ground. Yay, was that fun, the flight feeling is so great! Like someone else mentioned here, even the menu music is awesome. Great overall package so far ED, thanks for all the work you guys put into this! Now I have to wait for a new rig, so I can totally enjoy the experience...

Select any mission and click on Start 6. Witness black screen and hang 7. Terminating BS with the Windows Process Explorer pops the exit confirmation dialog in the game and allows clean exit. The Freespace 2 Mod 'Beyond the Red Line' is probably the best you will get in that regard, simulating the pseudo physics of the Battlestar Galactica universe very well. The demo was quite fun, but they had some organisational problems recently. Actually I don't think you would really enjoy a 'realistic' space combat simulator. Unless you introduce some methods of propulsion and for overcoming inertia, you will get something that 'Elite' kind of modelled. Or you can check out the 'flight dynamics' of space ships with the simulator 'Orbiter' which is really great. But probably only interesting in the long term for really interested people. There is also the 'X3' arcade/economics series. I feel with you, as I would also love to do turns around a Star Destroyer in an X-Wing like they showed in the movies, where you had that nice feeling of speed. None of the SW games I know ever portrayed that in a convincing manner yet (last one I've played was 'X-Wing Alliance'). I plead you game developers out there, enough of blueish space engine trails!!!
