  1. Couldn't disagree more. I run the same gpu and vr headset now as three years ago and its much smoother than it ever has been. Multi threading was a huge optimization and FRS has some drawbacks but again is a big general frame rate bump. In the future vulkan may provide yet another performance boost.
  2. Seemingly most of my flight follow me around while I'm getting shot to pieces no matter how many times I fumble through the menu to tell my wingmen, flight and second flight to engage enemy bandits. While they all agree this seems to be a good idea, telling me roger and affirm they seem more interested in the challenge of performing impossible maneuvers to stay on my wing while I attempt to take on half a dozen germans all by myself. The enemy AI seem to be in on the plan, ignore the other spits and make a beeline for me. It seems my direct wingmen get the hint and go do useful things, albeit in in far-away places, its one or both of the other flights that don't bother. While I enjoy the formation flying on the way over the channel its mostly just a frustrating and then terminal experience once you come into contact with the enemy. Is there any way to actually make this work? Otherwise I feel it might be time to park WW2 SP stuff until one day ED makes some improvements to friendly AI and the command system.
  3. So.. predictably because too many people are too unreasonable for an open beta to work in a positive way it will become a closed beta. Maybe there will be a way for people to apply to be closed beta testers.
  4. I have winwing f16 throttle and an older stick base, will soon be buying the f16 ICP and F16ex stick. For me, I wouldn't buy anything else because it is based on real aircraft and not generic and I have a f16 focused sim pit. I have never had any problems. I have problems with my reverb g2, my old TM warthog, my windows install and getting DCS running good sometimes but never had issues with my winwing stuff. The closest thing is that firmware wants me to remove all my usb devices all the time which is not going to happen so i just don't bother to firmware update.
  5. Not for me, if they made this change it should be optional. Don't want to be taking headset on and off and on and off and screen is not in a convenient place for frequent use in relation to built out sim cockpit. Having a 2d / 3d mix is VR done poorly.
  6. Clearly it has a broken flight model and all the people at the airshow should get their money back
  7. I don't know this helicopter at all but feel like I will be compelled buy and learn it in honor of your pure dedication.
  8. I set it using amd radeon chill settings but yeah some FPS limit settings may be more successful than others
  9. I found that fixing the framerate to a maximum, in my case to 45fps finally got rid of the micro stutter of the ground passing below and most of the in cockpit stutter. I have an AMD card so set it in the AMD software but there is probably an equivalent in Nvidia and I think there may be a DCS config file that can be used to set it as well. Note that it made the game menus a bit rough but the game itself much smoother. My theory is that headsets and/or VR software have difficulty with a constantly changing framerate and making it consistent smooths things out. Worth a try.
  10. With steam upscaling and 1.7 pixel density you are doubling up on the same thing but also the DCS pixel density setting is not very efficient. Pixel density in DCS should be left at 1
  11. What is your definition of wont work? I can access the open toolkit in game and for example turn on the fps counter just fine with mt and a g2
  12. Was hoping for good things but no noticeable change with 5800x3d and AMD 6800 with G2 using OpenXR. Load times seem faster and the interior on the hanger on the menu page is noticeably red but that's about it. Still a lot of ground micro stutter when looking out the side of the aircraft on all maps and Marianas nearly unplayable I think maybe even slightly worse. FPS unchanged. Am probably GPU bound but was hoping for less stutter at least.
  13. The thing is that everyone has a different interpretation of "worth-while" which I guess is a combination of your wealth/earning potential and tendency towards overspending vs frugality. So you will just end up with a bunch of responses based on other people's feelings of worth-while-ness which doesn't match yours.
  14. Pre product release anxiety seems to be a thing and social media, forums etc are an echo chamber for it, some people even get angry and then create a toxic environment for the product company employees. More info never really helps it just makes people more worked up about what was said, how it was said, what wasn't said, does it conflict with some other thing that was said. Better off to consider there is no point wasting energy worrying about things you have no control over, it will be ready and released when its ready.
  15. AMD 5600 cpu, AMD 6800 gpu, 32gb ram, Reverb G2 100% res with OpenXR + FSR. So decent but not super high spec pc. Didn't measure but no noticeable degradation in VR performance, flying around PG in a simple mission with Apache is nice and smooth
  16. Have you tried just putting clouds on the highest settings? That solves all the VR shimmer problems for me and the performance hit isn't too bad.
  17. Always so much emotive complaining it gets tiring visiting these forums. How about just some fair and constructive criticism then move on. If you don't want a product someone made, then just don't buy it. Great work all, looking forward to this, will gladly shell out $10 for an expanded and improved Normandy map. When I first saw the announcement, I was hoping that dcs channel would also be wrapped into this map and it's a shame that it isn't, although you can understand several reasons why it would be a difficult thing to do considering performance and the likely different ways the two maps were built. Hopefully some day they can be combined in some form allowing us to fly seamlessly from one to the other.
  18. Speculation and not likely to be correct either. This is the nature of software. It will be done when its done. I'd just forget about it and be pleasantly surprised when its ready. Though in all likelihood the first iteration will initially be less then expected and will still take a bit longer to really see big advantages. OpenXR is a great step forward and probably the biggest performance win we will see for a while yet.
  19. I say that because you mentioned getting a black screen which can happen if things are not set up properly. At least early on having DCS PD at anything other then 1 would cause a black screen. If you get the blue wall coming together type screen/graphic when you fire up DCS as opposed to the black steam vr one then implies that oxr is working though. Quite strange how many see a very large and immediate difference but some don't or even the opposite. I half expected to be wasting my time, am normally a sceptic with these things, but immediately noticed even text on the menus and loading screens was much better with OXR and then framerates were also much better. Has got to be some reason for the different experiences with different setups. Now I use OXR with other games as well like iracing, also an improvement.
  20. Yeah. You need to follow all the instructions. If you did you would see things like it doesn't work with PD set in DCS.
  21. Shadows are one of the biggest frame killers in DCS. Imo you would be crazy to have them anywhere above flat with a 1070. My 6800xt runs my G2 using OpenXR pretty well at 80% with most settings high (except for shadows). It will be many many years before we have gfx cards that are 2.5x more powerful then a 3090. Those kind of gains will come through software solutions long before they will come through pure processing performance increases.
  22. Weird I have a G2 and 6800xt and they run great together. I used to have a Track IR but was a bit meh to me and never got into DCS properly until I got my first VR headset.
  23. I believe I had seen in a video that the res for "cockpit displays" is talking about rear vision mirrors and nothing to do with MFDs. Don't take that as 100% truth unless others also back that up but pretty sure that is right. If you want to improve the apparent resolution then first step is to look into a super sampling mod like openvr_fsr by fholger
  24. 6 core i7 and 8gb video card doesn't actually mean anything because without the model numbers that could cover a huge range of different hardware that performs at different levels. Don't pay any attention to how much vram is in use it means practically nothing of value since it is only how much is being allocated for use and not how much is in use and software will tend to claim an amount based on how much is available not how much it needs. Would be ideal to know your cpu frametime and gpu frametime so you can see which is causing the bottle neck. The group I fly with has all said the apache performance is really good so in general I personally wouldn't expect it to be an apache specific problem.
  25. 3080ti and G2 is still going to disappoint. Id recommend just keep on waiting if you can until the next gfx card series
