  1. Hi all, Firstly thanks Polychop for the Mistral version, it's great to have a heli with A2A capability and I've enjoyed shooting stuff down. Got some questions though.. I just tried going up against some Russian helis in SP mode and could only lock on from about 2km ish on an Mi26 and couldn't lock at all on a KA50 (but couldn't get behind it properly so guessing that's why). What is the range of the Mistral for heli targets and fixed wing jets? Is it the same as real life? Also anyone noticed the game crashing with the Gazelle when you take fatal damage? The latest Open Alpha 2.0 and the 1.5 version both crashed to desktop when I took anything more than light damage from the enemy KA50 cannon or a Vihkr strike. Has this been noted elsewhere or is it just me? I've not tested it with other aircraft yet but will do later. Cheers.
  2. MI-24, hopefully both the P and V and with multicrew and a decent AI for single player. AH-64, same as above for multicrew and AI. Cobra (late twin engine model) Bo-105, coming soon hopefully. A bigger helo like the Chinook or CH53. Blackhawk/Seahawk. Osprey. All of those tomorrow please :-)
  3. Probably did stop for a balti. Re airshow, never been to one as my parents weren't keen. Now I have my own family and am working on convincing my other half that our son would love to go one. Fingers crossed.
  4. Interesting thanks guys. Makes you realise that flying an unarmoured heli in a war zone requires a fairly hefty set of balls (figurative balls for female pilots).
  5. Yes they're quite threatening even without actually doing anything other than coming in to land. I surprised by how quiet it was actually, obviously it was loud but not that bad, an impressive engineering feat considering how heavy and powerful it is. We have Chinooks fly over here quite often and they're super-loud, the bass from the rotorwash vibrates the house. We also have the local police helicopter which is an EC135 which seems to have fairly quiet rotor blades but the engine whine is quite loud and the sound carries quite far. Good story about the machine gun, which army was that? I thought helicopters were quite vulnerable to ground fire but perhaps something armoured like an Apache can withstand enough to make firing at it a mistake (the Gazelle by comparison can be downed by a few 5.56 rounds in the right place according to some stuff I've read).
  6. British AAC Apache flew over Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham the other day (17th of June, only just got round to processing the pics). It landed right behind the park in a playing field which is part of the police training centre. No idea why it was there, anyone else got a clue? (Armed Forces Day was a day or two after this). Having this bearing down on you, even when you know it's not going to open fire, was somewhat unnerving. I only had a compact camera with me, shame I didn't have one of my bigger ones with a telephoto.
  7. Got it all working (not tried the trim yet though). Nice FM, can really throw it around now, and the cannon is great. Having difficulty getting the rockets on target though, is the sight calibrated for a specific distance? Good work Polychop, look forward to shooting down some aircraft with the Mistral version when it's done.
  8. All working well now, DCS noob error alert :-/
  9. Thanks, I tried that but it didn't work. I've just done more googling about updating and I think I can't see the L model because it's only part of the beta 1.5.4 not the current stable version. I don't have the openbeta 1.5 installed and wasn't aware it existed (new to DCS). Installing it now and hope to be using cannons and rockets forthwith.
  10. I loaded up DCS just now hoping to fly the L model Gazelle but I can't see it anywhere. Is there a manual update or some way of selecting the L model in a mission that isn't obvious? Thanks for any advice, and sorry if this is a stupid question :-/
  11. Isn't it normal to have an FPS drop when in cockpit view, especially if it's a wide angle? With a wider angle and with the cockpit to render there's more on-screen detail to process. E.G. if I zoom into a narrow field of view in the cockpit or use an external view I'll get a decent FPS. If I zoom out to the widest field of view in the cockpit my FPS takes a hit.
  12. Not read this whole thread but has anyone mentioned the behaviour of the day vision camera and screen at night? At the moment (in 1.5 at least), when using the day vision system at night you can see a lot detail on the screen with night vision goggles and less detail without. In reality if the day vision camera isn't good in low light (i.e low sensitivity camera sensor) you would just see a light black/grey screen and a lot of noise at night (take your camera phone into an unlit location and you'll see, or rather you won't). Using NV goggles would make no difference to what the camera system is capable of resolving. Not sure how modern the sensor is in the Viviane but only newer more specialist sensors can resolve any detail in the dark (e.g. the sensor in the consumer Sony A7s series.)
  13. Just finished the first mission, no problems and got four kills on that convoy (I added more missiles when refuelling). I didn't take that long this time, not sure how long as I paused for a ciggie while refuelling. I realised the first time I tried it I was reading the Nadir direction wrongly and set off completely in the wrong direction, not changing course until Meatboy said to follow him. I didn't refuel at London FARP either so ran out of fuel and crashed right next to the helipad at Paris FARP. I can laugh now but it was annoying at the time. Good mission anyway, look forward to the next one.
