  1. The traing missions gives us, what, when, and where. "What & when" are done audibly, very handy with a VR headset on, "where" is highlighted by the yellow box. Removing the yellow box makes life harder, i appear to learm faster that way. Being able to turn the "where" box off would be a halfway house between training and full-blown vanilla missions...I did say it sounded weird :)
  2. If they fix it, I hope they give us an option to disable it. This sounds weird, but I think I'm learning the cockpit layouts faster without it. The A10 startup, for example, was a pain, but when you're forced to jump out of VR to research where switch x is, it makes retaining the knowledge easier, plus you can read up on what switch x actually does. If the yellow box was there I'd just be mindlessly clicking on it.
  3. My Father, in his late 70's, is a massive Spitfire fan.. he was a child during WWII, all [uK] kids of this era were/are massive fans of this bird. As an unusual Christmas present I'd like to give him a VR ride in the pilots seat of the incredible new DCS Spitfire. I have a Vive, the DCS Spitfire module, but totally lack the skills needed to do a basic flight recording... me lurching down the runway in an uncontrolled side slip, launching vertically into the air like an Apollo rocket, followed by a crash into the runway won't make for the most pleasant of experiences. So could I ask if anyone has, or could do, a 15 min flight recording? I'm thinking cold & dark start, taxi, takeoff, light aerobatics (suitable for a 79yr old :)), ending in a Spitfire landing. If anyone has a track file for such a flight this would be very much appreciated cheers Reggie
  4. I have a VR headset, the model is immaterial, they are both very poor when compared to what you see on a monitor, one might be slightly better in terms of how poor it is, but it's only by a whisker. This is gen1 kit, software is not optimised for it, GPU technology is struggling to keep up, there are hardly any games, ... Am I ever going to buy or play another game or sim that doesn't support VR? No way, this is the future. So buy whatever one you feel bests suits your budget or gaming style is my advice
  5. I had completely missed that... so not to be used to commit Seppuku when your Mk82's land long? The thought of having to stab your life raft genuinely cracked me up, thanks, it also reminded me of the inflatable autopilot from Airplane (the movie). There's nothing in the manual about stabbing boats, so change of request, randomly finding yourself sharing the cockpit with a boat sounds like a very unique feature
  6. Thanks for the response, I await the Beta with eager anticipation, if v1 is due 2024 the beta should be released soon? Thinking I had asked a stupid question I did later check behind the pilot's ejector chair to see if there was a toolkit there, but no joy. You'd think that a plane that costs many millions of dollars would come with a basic toolkit for the driver(?) ... until the beta comes out are there any virtual books available for the kneepad to distract me from thoughts about dismantling the airplane whilst it warms up, e.g. Gone With The Wind?
  7. I was sat in my virtual cockpit today waiting for INS to do what the INS does when you wake it from it's slumber, and I noticed the 6 slotted screws on the back off the HUD and 4 hex bolts... would it be possible to have a set of VR tools please, e.g. slot head screwdriver, allen keys and an adjustable wrench? A possible future project would be dismantling the front panel, although this may be shelved if I can't put the HUD back together again, so a virtual crosshead driver would also be useful, but not urgent. :music_whistling: I'm using a Vive, if this helps. Seriously, the Mirage is in my top 3 of favourite virtual DCS planes, so thanks
  8. I got it thanks, it's a bit fiddly (I'm in a Vive and the buttons/status lights are very small), but once you go through it a few times, no problems. I did an experiment by not putting an accurate lat/long in whilst in VEI mode, and I got about a 10degree compass error on the HSI and HUD after a full ALM. To restart the alignment process, so you can put in the correct lat/long, do you merely switch back to VEI mode and start from there, or is it advisable to power cycle the INS/the whole flipping plane?
  9. Well that explains last nights navigation mystery :0 During the 8mins it takes to perform a standard alignment can you move the aircraft, i.e. once I've started the ALM, Pret is flashing, can I start taxing to the takeoff point? (I'm a noob, so I can ask a few dumb questions)
  10. Mainsail, I see you're running a 970, same as me, have you tried this yet? If so what have you set yours to please? [Open Q, so applies to anyone with a 970 and Vive...many thanks to Illuzian for this]
  11. With Vr your focusing on something that's in the distance, not close up like looking at your phone. Do you wear glasses just for reading what's on your phone, if so you won't need to wear them in VR [probably] The biggest problem is actually an itchy nose
  12. Just spotted this thread, who do I send my money to for this, do they take kidneys and/or the first born child?
  13. Thanks for that, much appreciated, although I did get mixed results with the Vive.. M2K, Ka50 and SU25T; now working fine, even after a restart of DCS A10c, I have to reapply the fix almost everytime I enter the cockpit Mi8, I couldn't get the fix to work with this at all As this is a workaround until a permanent fix comes out I'll just stick to flying the M2k and Ka50.
  14. see screenshots, the mouse tips text background is too large for the text and obscuring the view of instruments etc. I'm seeing this in M2k and HIP (not tested with other aircraft) Edit: The angles of the text boxes are a little weird, but I assume this has something to do with the headtracking issue... [HTC Vive, screenshots cropped]
