OH-6A version 1.3:
Flightmodel improvements:
- Improved stability due to tuned enginedynamics
- Tuned skid friction, dynamic roll over is a thing now
- Landings on water are possible if floaters are equipped. Waves cannot be taken into account til now.
Can anybody explain what the first bullet point here means? I don't understand.
I haven't tried 1.3 mod yet...are the FM changes significant?

As I know, FM wasnt touched. Also I didnt notice something new with this.
It was, and the changes affected both roll behavior and ground effect:
DCS: OH-58D Kiowa Warrior by Polychop Simulations
- Fixed: Sideways flight bug (subject to further testing)
- Fixed: “Bump” of lift when coming to a hover

It definitely wasn't my imagination.

Make sure the helo is balanced.
If you have stores on one side but not the other, I've found the small helicopters want to roll and kill you. If you try a low hover when you take off.
I have yet to load anything on the pylons of this aircraft, so it wasn't that.

Will check this out...

Anyone else notice a weird unrecoverable roll since the update? It has happened a few times to me. Both were in ground effect, or close to it. It seemed like rolling past a certain threshold, it just loses control and keeps rolling.

Looking good! Looks like you made the external textures less glossy?
Is there any way we could toggle on/off that sight in the cockpit? Personally, I wouldnt mind losing some irl accuracy. That looks like a real bummer for forward visibility.

Only telling what exactly is off instead of saying it is completely off would help to improve it.
To me, there is something fundamentally different about the way it responds to cyclic input vs. the ah-6 mod (the flight model of which is actually based on the Loach). It seems like there is a "looseness" to cyclic response and I am constantly getting into induced oscillations.
Mover's initial assessment was that something was off with the "physics", but idk if he ever got more specific than that. That was with the previous fm. Mover has flown the oh-6 irl.
Personally, now that the dust has settled, I honestly wish it flew more like the ah-6 mod. I really appreciate all the work you've put in to it, so I'm just trying to be constructive here.

Thanks for the update guys, I think it was a nice improvement on the fm. Could not get the grease pen to work, but no other problems.

Is that what Tobi said?
Here is Mover's video on the OH-6 mod, in case anyone missed it...He has flown the aircraft irl.

So does anyone know if we have further evolution of the flight model to look forward to?

Oh, and did we mention already, that it looks absolutely gorgeous?
Especially the outside model! On the inside it still looks very good but is let down a tad by the low poly count here and there (doors).
Not knocking the AH-6, but compared to that, the OH-6 cockpit is a polished work of art.
I like the visibility in turns. Something really immersive about looking over your shoulder through the roof, and tracking objects while you are circling around. Makes me wish I could try it in VR.

Thanks for the update. View bindings now work.
I adjusted my pedals axis. -20 curve and reduced X saturation to 80. I thought I understood this, but someone help me out. Reducing X saturation basically reduces the total controller movement to reach full deflection in the sim, correct? What does Y saturation do, exactly?
I have hosted a Syria heli mods server that is up now. I would be interested to know if people can actually join it. IDK if I have to do something with my router, ports, etc...

Yeah, there's definitely quite a delay between the trigger pull and firing the minigun. I'd guess it's because it needs to start rotating at a set speed first before it starts firing?
That makes sense.
I like these simple weapons systems.
I went to fly some of my gunship missions and it seems like the AI ground vehicle weapons accuracy is even more god like now. I can't make it near a ground unit without dying. I was bummed to not see that issue on ED's to do list.
The Loach would be great for some PVP dogfighting.

Anybody else getting a delay between trigger pull and firing minigun?
Will do some multiplayer flying if anybody is up for it.
-
Thanks for this Tobsen and 8ball...I like it.
The FM has alot of neutral stability, which feels pretty unique. I haven't added any curves and I find it very controllable with my Virpil setup.
I flew the ah-6j mod alot, so its great to have this with a hi-res cockpit, animated rotor, controls without backwards animation, etc.
Only problems I have so far are inability to map view buttons and the startup mission doesn't have any slots to fly. Neither of those are a big deal.
Anyone want to host a multiplayer server this afternoon? Marianas, Syria, Normandy...Hot starts are cool.

Spent a bit of time on controls
These may help for starters, bear in mind I have virpil collective and warthog joystick with 200mm extension and MFG rudders
Collective DZ -0 Sat X -100 SatY -100 Curve 0 "Inverted" this is usually a virpil requirement but try it
Pitch DZ-0 Sat X - 100 Sat Y- 85 Curve minus 20
Roll DZ-0 Sat X-80 Sat Y-50 Curve 0
Rudders (MFG) DZ-0 SatX-100 Sat Y-90 Curve minus 15 "Slider"
Still tweaking but maybe a starting point for someone
Hi Marshall...Did you have any trouble assigning functions (view buttons, etc.) to your virpil throttle?
edit: From what I can tell now, it is only functions that are default Function keys (cockpit view F1, etc.) that are non-assignable...

Several, and I would be ok with deleting any to get this one to work...the ah-6j, uh-60, and bell 47.
Think theres any chance I put some files in the wrong place?
edit: All my controls are Virpil. Some functions are assignable to stick/throttle buttons (dropping grenades, others). The cells that arent assignable will not outline in bright blue in order to click "Add". Very weird. Not being able to assign view buttons to my hardware really sucks.

Got it downloaded and installed.
Got it running and flying, but I cant assign any buttons to anything. When I click Add with cell in controller column selected, nothing happens. I could assign axes for stick, throttle, and rudder fine. Track Ir works too. I cant assign any buttons, though...no gui pops up when I click "add".
I can still change these assignments for other aircraft...
Thanks for help. It looks great otherwise.

None of the download links are working for me...It says to check back later. Anybody know how long?

Really looking forward to this.

Thanks guys...I am having a blast with the new fm. L is so much better without the tv blocking view.

You cannot get past the fundamental inaccuracy of the FM. Full stop.
I was on here like 7 years ago (I'm not exaggerating) trying to explain the obvious core issues with the cyclic behavior of the DCS Gazelle. I even took an in cockpit video of a RL Gaz pilot, and made a GIF to illustrate the fact that the cyclic behaves normally - that is, it doesn't snap back to center after inputs.
I have had alot of fun with the gaz (Not in a looong time, though, since the LIttle Bird mod came out. Highly recommended.), but the problems with it are substantial, and should have been addressed years ago.
There is no "winning" an argument with those who still defend it. The appeals to "authority" while ignoring logic and evidence are tedious to say the least.

Ok, so just to be clear, I hadn't flown in a while and was mistakenly mixing up the engine start switches with the idle detent commands. They are separate and have to be done sequentially, of course.
It wasnt about the APU switch...Like Corbu said, that isn't something you have to press and hold.
Thanks for the help my friends.
Mods feel free to delete this thread, I doubt it will cause anything but more confusion.
-
Well, knock on wood, its working now...I think I wasnt holding the apu switch for long enough. Thanks guys.
-
I learned to start this thing the day it came out...Like I said maybe 4 times already, the engine start switches don't start the engines, post APU start...

I downloaded and flew the 1.3 version this morning.
It seems like an improvement to me.
It might just be me, but the oscillations (I think it was mostly yaw) seem improved.
I went back and forth between oh6 and ah6 mods to try to figure out what exactly felt different. Honestly, they seem pretty close now.
One thing I noticed, when doing ~500fpm descending turns in the ah6, cyclic is "counter steering" (slight right cyclic in left hand turn). With the oh6, it was slight left cyclic for left hand descending turn.
Thanks for the update, will have to try out the float version.
