  1. This may be a sucking eggs comment but I have to ask! are you aware that the AP channels only exercise 20% authority over the possible input range? thus if for any reason you input (either by extreme trim condition or direct pilot input) more that 20% then the safety system will disconnect the AP channels.
  2. Ah SWAMPIES Gathering "there can be only 1" I am both pleased and honoured to be able to host this once a year gathering and thereby revel in the company of those like minded guys and gals I regard as my friends. Long may it continue.
  3. The membership of -=Shrek=-Squadron have decided the dates and venue for the squad BBQ & gathering. FRIDAY 17th JULY 2015 will see members arriving from all over the United Kingdom and Europe where we will enjoy renewing old friendships and making new ones. All this while taking in the spectacle of what is probably the worlds largest military air show, Royal International Air Tattoo RAF Fairford Gloucestershire. SATURDAY 18th JULY 2015 has swampies gathering for a "all Day & Night" chillout at OGREMAN's Swamp for yet more of the (by now well known) HEREFORD "swamp water" and BBQ. Expectations are already high for yet another great time for us all and it is looking like we might see the highest turnout ever for the squadron membership.
  4. Really! WE SEE NO EVIDENCE OF THAT ASERTION REALLY!
  5. BACKER DATA COLLECTION DONE! As Requested, many thanks for your effort.
  6. Multiplayer Mission Quality & DCS Hello, The mission quality that you are talking about is a very subjective thing, a mission design that caters for a squads aircraft preferences may not fit "Real world" parameters but allows the squad to fly together co-operatively in their individually preferred aircraft. In that case the biase of the mission is catering for team building rather than real world nationalist politics. (P.S many members of my squad could not give 2 hoots about real world politics and nationalistic rivalries, regarding their love of flight as transcending all that base bigot extremist nationalism stuff, for them it is the teamwork immersion and tactics that count). Then there is of course the inevitable conflict between ambition and capability, of both the writer and the program, limiting what can reasonably be achieved. Another issue that presents problems is that in order to create a truly great mission that has immersion longevity/re-playability & appeal, it takes many, many, many hours in deeply inspired creative work just to get the basic ideas to function ..... then there is the constant re visiting the triggers to re design and refine the thing so that everything from timing to balance of reactions to events all get the delicate re touching, tweaks that makes the difference between "a trigger" and "a mind jerking wow event" that gets your adventure juices flowing. Mission writing in DCS offers levels of complexity in mission design that are staggering. But there is a price to pay for that sophistication, many mission writers can be discouraged from letting the creative juices flow because of the frequency of program patches that alter the carefully refined elements of AI activity ... breaking the mission so badly that it may no longer be possible to get that "wow" moment without a total re-write of the mission structure. (remember the endless hours of painful attention to detail?). These comments are written from the perspective of a squad that prefers Co-Op Person vs AI types of missions as the basic day to day flight activity enjoyment of the team dynamic having preference over some other idea of "Reality".
  7. I should apologise now for allowing my remarks to stray from the more narrow point of my Original Post! but this needs to be said...... The sentiment you have expressed here is one of the main reasons I only rarely post in these threads ........ apologists for DCS with short memories will often divert the Original Posters comments with long and geeky explanations as to why this degradation of performance is suddenly acceptable or even desirable. You will get statements of "the company line" like DCS have made this change in the light of NEW INFORMATION if you have better sources of info then we will consider your concern The simple truth is that it is my perception that after flying unbroken in every version of this sim since "FLANKER" (that's a lot of experience over a long time) it is clear to me that many aspects of the current sims performance are a lot less capable than in previous versions. Also that on balance the so called "improvements/advancements" have been enacted at the expense of the overall degradation of the sims wider performance, in support of this I would site; Bad AI movement characteristics for ground vehicles. greatly reduced ability to handle combat/battle activity in general very poor single and multiplay stability (most likely due to un-fixed memory leaks) insanely complex mission building(far too many ticks in boxes/settings)making simple actions hard to achieve. overall reduction in the number of clients the sim will support in a full combat mission.
  8. Dear god! What is wrong with you people, ...... lets turn this into a "WANT MORE EYE CANDY" or "GET ME SOMETHING NEW" thread..... When it should be a "GET THIS BROKEN SIM FIXED" thread.
  9. Thanks Karam.... I was trying to limit my examples to the most annoying but you are quite right that there are a lot more frustrating performance drops than I have indicated ..... not only confined to the KA50, across the wider areas of the whole of DCS.. seems that eye candy/novelty have priority over consistency/reliability. 1step forward ..... 2 steps back.
  10. Over the many re-iterations and insults that are DCS patches ..... I have come to accept that the KA50 is being quietly allowed to fall into a slow decay from benign neglect. I could live with this slow fall into digital decay just as long as I could get my much loved "wobbly wing" to actually engage a target. Bad enough that the way the laser range designator cone jumps around, is making a total mockery of any self respecting weapons targeting designer. see here http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1529894&postcount=11 . and here http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1529908&postcount=13 Bad enough that the KA50s premier long range BIG HITTER weapon (Karen) is now no more use than a EMPTY DROP TANK. Bad enough that the only way to get a full on intense combat experience with any ground attack aircraft is to FLY IN SINGLE PLAYER. now that the target designator refuses to ground stabilise (defaulting to auto sweep) because its raining this is making it almost impossible to engage anything ... well "I GIVE UP". All that frustration has now reached a point of extreme irritation, so much so.... that after being a hard core fan from the very beginnings of this software developer, I am not only considering abandoning the KA50 I am really wondering if DCS is worth my continued time money or effort.
  11. We live in hope mate :-) ...... but my guys were flying in 1.2.8 just a matter of 6hrs ago and the mission ground to a halt around 1hour in .... giving all the indications of a progressive memory leak causing server frames to drop through the floor and progressive de-sync for clients. Furthermore ..... we (shrek sqn) have been testing the 1.2.8 beta since the beginning and what has happened is that this latest patch has been released to both the "public beta" and main public at the same time leaving no opportunity to test this patch for use. SO we live in hope ....
  12. My opinion..... Recent testing by shrek sqn clearly indicates that there is a serious memory leak that will cause multiplayer sessions to become unplayable after around 1hour .... So if you wish to update to 1.2.8 and enjoy the benefits of the patch;- underslung loads for the UH1H improved graphics cockpit graphics for several aircraft then be aware that the multiplayer has many stability problems at this point which are most noticeable with larger missions.
  13. A question for tonym! Hi Yonym, My question to you is ... Are you a life long passionate lover of flight, flying, aviation and all things that fly? ...... if the answer is "I don't know for sure" then I would suggest that "there's your problem", you see there are a minority group of people that live for their next flight experience and that group are frequent flyers in DCS and very often other flight sims as well as being often closely connected to flying in their daily lives. Your comment about "when DCS first started" seems to be a little off the mark .... because DCS began in a program called Flanker (released in the early 90's) then underwent continuous development (and company acquisitions/ name changes) to become the product you see today. So if your DCS join date is anything to go by then you were not flying DCS when it began. My point is that whilst I can absolutely understand your frustrations with such things as Tiny sandbox flight area Poor mission development caused by regular destruction of missions by program patches... discouraging mission writers. Generally buggy and unstable Multiplayer environment that trashes a huge chunk of "the fun of flight" out of the simulator. ......... the BOTTOM LINE IS ......... THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that comes even close to this, the ULTIMATE IN SANDBOX AIR COMBAT SIMULATORS.
  14. Hi ShuRugal I completely sympathise with your irritation at the way the beloved KA is undergoing changes that are probably unrealistic, I have a theory about this, I think that a lot of inconsistency in behaviour is because the coders at DCS are implementing changes in preparation for the EDGE graphics. These changes are producing undesireable performance errors in the less capable graphics engine we are using just now but that with EDGE and some optimisation work it will all be returned to best performance that we all know and love. I hope this proves to be the case because I will certainly not want to continue to fly the shark if the current performance is to be the ongoing accepted standard.
