  1. I know it's a couple years old but this just helped me . Just getting back to DCS after a few years...
  2. I had to guess it because the file in question wasn't in the list posted above: DCS_Updater.exe install MIG-21BIS I couldn't get it to work at first but it's case sensitive so "MIG21-BIS" must be all caps
  3. In before the lock, fingers crossed.
  4. 24 FPS was made for movies because at a higher rate the reels would be so big that they wouldn't fit the projection equipment. 24 was the lowest they could go to get acceptable quality. The thing is a video game isn't a movie. When you throw "head panning" into the mix it changes everything because of the added (or subtracted) degrees of motion. Perception of motion is also impacted in flight sims directly by the degrees of turn rate of the aircraft. The higher the turn rate , the higher the FPS is required to keep the illusion. There was a really old study about this but they only used a fixed forward view. They don't take into account movement of the viewpoint at all. It's too much maths for my tiny brain to handle but that's the gist of it. One could infer that if you were turning right and also panning right that it would take an even higher FPS to continue to look smooth.
  5. I had a chance to see this aircraft at Flightsimcon 2015, the second day they opened it up and you could sit in it :) Snapped some pics for you guys to see. Sorry for the poor quality my hands were shaking lol.. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/iezgt5fyaumtnvj/AAB5c8bQAKRt_xUq-QjFUktxa?dl=0

    EFM and SFM?

Thanks for the feedback. I want the higher fidelity model regardless. The more realistic the better IMO.

    EFM and SFM?

Multiplayer How are 2 different flight models going to work in multiplayer will there then have to be 2 different models for the same aircraft? I imagine the people who want an advantage will go for the lesser FM because it has less constraints and therefore they can get easier kills?
  8. Got both my keys, thx guys. Outstanding.
  9. Hurry up and get killed for a load of christmas trees. The only thing he's showing is carelessness and recklessness. Not 2 things you want for a long life as a pilot. I imagine we will see his burning wreck on the news at some point in the future when something goes wrong with the heli or he makes a tiny mistake.
  10. Apparently someone got the word out, frontpage on AVSIM. Thats a big audience there. I'll be jumping on the kickstarter too as soon as I get my next paycheck...
  11. ....and I throw out the trump card....VRS....gimme yo money
  12. You can have all your smartphones and tablets that you want. I can assure you that very few, if any were developed on said platform. Hand over Windows 8 to all the coders that make this garbage and tell them to go program the next version of windows using touchscreen keyboards and metro apps....
  13. Do they model the cone of silence over a VOR? Try moving away from it a bit? EDIT: Those are marker beacons...very short range not a VOR Real world NDB for Lochini is 923 KHz try that and see if it works.
  14. Honestly you really can't compare old versions to new versions. It seems ED is in a no win situation because on 1 hand you have people asking for DX11 on the other people with slightly older systems asking for the same performance across the board. With DCSW you basically cannot just use the same settings as BS1 or A-10C. They have incrementally added a lot of stuff to this sim, some things not so easy to see , others very obvious. Bottom line is you need to go through the steps as any other new sim or game and re tweak it to what your hardware can handle. Yes it is a continuation of older products BUT it IS entirely new so you cannot just copy paste and be good to go. It will not yield favorable results. There are new things like ground clutter , higher res objects, TSSSAA and nameless other things that make old settings invalid. Apples to oranges really. It's like comparing FS 2004 to FSX or P3D. Yes you got 100 FPS in FS 2004 but in FSX only 30..... 3 monitors only adds to the confusion. If you go this route it's not plug and go. Be prepared to spend lots of time tweaking. 8-10 years on it's not new but it's still not mainstream.
  15. Using CPU % is kind of meaningless because DCS probably only uses 2 cores...So basically you end up with 2 cores maxed at 100% then the others are idle or being used by windows. DCS is very heavily CPU bound. Low GPU usage can also be an indicator you can't feed it fast enough. In my experience after I hit between 4-4.4 ghz it "seems" ideal ,running faster doesn't seem to scale well, marginal FPS gain more power usage, higher temps etc...just not worth it. Another thing with 3 screens is video memory. 2-3 gig is pretty much needed for running 3 screens. On my system at max settings DCS is using 2.5 GB with the Huey and the shooting range mission. If you run out of video memory it will start using system memory and your frames will go to garbage. So bottom line invest in a good H100 or H50 CPU cooler and OC your CPU, even if you replace your CPU get a good cooler and OC. This would be first on my list. (does your board handle an I7 2700K? Go find a used one for cheap on EBAY) Consider getting a GPU with 3-4GB video memory (if you want close to max detail). Adding another card will not let you use more video memory so consider your purchase carefully.
  16. Early on it had problems with TrackIR. Overall it just "seems" less stable. In FSX for instance I couldn't complete a 2 hour long flight without a crash. Same system with Windows 7 - no crash. Maybe it's immature drivers or who knows. Also it has issues with Nvidia surround...3 times it would boot to a black screen rendering the system totally unusable, I couldn't even get into safe mode to repair it. IL-2 had problems with it as well. Just lots of things like this...so yeah now I am one of the "klingons" who get stuck on an old OS and doesn't want to move on. There were other things as well. It runs fine on a 3 year old notebook that I use to run FSX addons etc. but again I don't do gaming or hardcore simming on it either. Honestly I don't want the hassle, I wasted weeks tinkering with it. When I get home after working all day and want to game or fly a sim I don't want to spend the first hour or 2 tweaking or searching the net for workarounds. I just want to play.

    Combat Pilot

Tried it. Too much focus on fly point A to point B. 1+ hour long missions that you fail for dumb things. Terrible generic HUD, half the stuff in the aircrafts are disabled or nonfunctional, generic weapon systems, very little actual combat. I gave it a shot , don't waste your time, instead go for VRS/TACPACK. If you already own those , stay away or go play more DCS.

    Shaking

I'll admit I haven't probably spent as much time already as some, but I can't seem to keep this thing stable no matter how smooth I am on the control inputs. At different phases of flight the helicopter is shaking quite a bit and this seems abnormal. I try to go easy on the collective because it seems to be related to this but I just can't seem to get it down ( spoiled by Blackshark no doubt). Overall the FM seems good to what I know, but my RL flying experience of helicopters is limited to RC and this thing flys nearly identical to some of these (minus the shake).
  19. XP will hold back any of the above. Do not neglect your OS, get Windows 7 x 64 whatever version you can get cheapest and you'll be miles ahead. DCS has already shifted to x64 so even on your old system it's not so great to use a 32 bit OS. Windows 8 stinks, you might get it cheaper than Windows 7 but it is still too new for stable hardcore gaming like DCS. Also the second most overlooked item is a good quality PSU. Do not skimp on this , I know it's hard to quantify but what good is a fast system if it dies after a month or is not stable? For your budget you should do OS first (after the above 2 items), GPU second and get the fastest used processor that will go on your board , then get some new memory cheap on New Egg. Dual channel kit and definately don't mix and match....
  20. Did you get your FPS issue sorted? On 1 screen it should be 2-3 times faster than what you are getting?
