  1. Loving the vibe of this campaign so far. I've purchased Red Flag for the Mirage, Charnwood, and now am enjoying the 2 sample missions with the intention to purchase the BNBB campaign. A couple questions

1 - I've flown the P-51 for some time, in VR, and have never heard this....when I load into Mission 5 and 6 (or 4 and 5, the samples available is my point) the second I'm in my P-51 cockpit I'm hearing what sounds like popcorn or poorly designed gunshots. Never heard this before in other P-51 campaigns or single missions....this must be some bug or? I mean it also sounds like a puttering engine sorta....clapping, popcorn? Really odd?! Any thoughts? Used the Mirage and other aircraft today without this annoying sound.

As I close the P-51's cockpit the sound becomes much quieter. It definitely isn't the "standard" engine sound....and I hear this sound before I fire up the plane...it's a separate sound.

2 - This should truly be in another forum but maybe I'll sneak it in. I can't raise my flaps all the way up. I can "grab" the lever and pull it "up" but then the flap level "bounces back" to about 75% up. Looking out over my wing I can see the flaps are in line with the lever...down just a bit. Any thoughts?

Pardon the lazy terminology, vino isn't helping. Please share any thoughts. I am experienced contrary to these weird issues I'm having.

  2. Thank you. Would you please clarify the following in bold? I get replacing everything in between those parenthesis "thingies" lol, but the part where I then paste the file....I don't get it. Thank you!-

I would then find your backup file, replace just the information in between {} (the hardware ID) then paste the file over to the directory DCS uses. ----------If I'm replacing whats in between the {} then why do I need to copy and paste a file? or what file. Lost on that part.

***Oh i think you are calling what is in between the {} as the "file"

  3. You don't want to use what I posted since that was just an example.

To start, I would map some kind of control to your stick as it is right now.

That will generate a file Joystick - XXXXXX {xxxx........}.diff.lua, this will contain the brand new hardware ID.

I would then find your backup file, replace just the information in between {} (the hardware ID) then paste the file over to the directory DCS uses.

I would not overwrite your backup files in anyway, make new copies of them, in the event you do something wrong.

If you have any more questions about it let me know and I'll try and help further.

Thank you! I wasn't going to use exactly what you posted lol....barely savvy enough to realize that that was an example.

Ok, your reply gives me an approach. Thank you. Will attempt tomorrow. Appreciate it!

  4. Thank you for the replies. So, long story short, should I just copy and paste the different version of this thingy ------ Joystick - HOTAS Warthog {7706D510-24D2-11ea-8003-444553541234}.diff.lua

...on top of the "new different one" on my new computer?

This is absurdly difficult and beyond stupid by the way. I mean, good god. 2020 and this is how this works lol?!?!? All good, I'm a happy dude and all. but justy sayin'

So all in all what do I need to do because some of the replies here threw me off. Thank you fellas!

  5. Hello fellow pilots! Been enjoying DCS for a few years now. I'm a VR user with a flight seat, x52, and pretty fun setup. I recently bought a new rig with a 2080ti to boost the heck out of my VR and gave the old gaming rig 1080 Ti to wifey.

Here's the issue. I went to C:\Users\myname\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\Input ... as I googled I should. Copied everything to a jump drive. Then I paste the input in the new computers same area. Using Beta on both PCS. When I open the same file path on the new computer and go to inputs it even seems to have the joystick LUA or whatever that is called saved on the new computer. Load up DCS world beta. Get in my mirage 2000c and....boom....not a thing works as it should. None of the x52 inputs are working. What gives? What am I doing wrong? I have about 6 different modules all mapped out and truly don't want to manually have to set them all up again.

Please help. Thank you in advance.

  6. I think you just need to find the current mission that you "failed" in your logbook and set the results field to 100. Save a copy before you mess with it, though.

To play the campaigns as individual missions, I go to My Missions and then navigate to the campaign folder and play them one at a time.

I can't figure out how to navigate to the campaign folder. As I recall, the folks who created the campaign even mentioned in these forums that it is harder to find these than "normal."

    Please advise.

  7. You'll need to edit your Logbook file in logbook.lua, which is usually found in C:\Users\*UserNameHere*\Saved Games\DCS\MissionEditor.

You might have to download Notepad++ to open it (if I recall, it's an unformatted mess without it), but make a copy (or 3) before you try anything. I don't remember the specifics, but you should be able to see successful missions from the same campaign to see what you need to add and change. Add the relevant information, save it, load up the campaign and see if you've advanced. If not, copy one of your backups over and try it again.

It wasn't too complicated to figure it out. If I did it, you'll be able to. If you really don't want to mess with it, you should be able to play the campaign missions as individual missions.

I love that campaign, by the way.

Thanks Spike. If someone remembers HOW to edit the notepad++ file, please do share. Also, a long time ago I knew how to open other campaign missions separately....how do I do that with the Red Flag if I can't figure out how to do what you advised?

  8. Love this campaign but, due to actual life events that pull me out of mission and a trigger issue here and there, I need to be able to make good use of time and skip a mission once or twice.

Please help me understand how to edit the file somehow so I can skip a mission. I've never done this, so any detail would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance! Great campaign.

  9. I think that Rift-S is turning the screen off while not on your head (and layed aside) is normal, i have that too. But it comes to life again everytime i put it back on my head.

Power Management: Control Panel -> Power Options -> Pick the active powerplan -> Advanced power settings -> USB settings -> set to disable -> Apply.

Thank you. Already have this as disabled. I now recall having done this some time ago. Any other ideas?

  10. Two thoughts occur .

One is USB power management . Windows has the ability to "put to sleep" unused USB ports . You can disable this function in Windows settings .

Another possibility is that Oculus is turning the headset off to prevent screen burn-in .

Hmmm. Thank you. I have no idea how to check on these concepts and see if that is my issue. I would have to imagine this is a normal issue with other rift users and would hope some others have experienced this and have a resolution?

  11. I'd also like to ask a question. The radios are different now since the updated (and quite excellent!) new cockpit changes and look. It used to be red and green. But now I just see the one....right?

I'm flying one of the built in "instant action" Mirage Air to Air refueling missions where I head to Nav one to meet the tanker and can handle all that....but the mission briefing says I need to manually tune in to the tanker. I can't recall, but I think its 144 or something....the number doesn't matter, I have no idea how to hail the tanker via radio. Would someone kindly assist? and also let me know if there is still a red and green? I'm used to both of those from the red flag etc.

    Cheers and Happy New Year!

  12. Hey redmantab! For Magics you'll want to use the 3-position switch, IIRC called Weapons Select Switch. It switches between Magics in AA mode / Guns in AA mode / PCA selection. It is true that now in order to activate the Magics you have to use your HOTAS. I am working on an updated version of the manual.

I've only had some limited success with your advice here. Flown the campaign and 10 missions into the Red Flag Mirage as well, so I have experience. Wish using Magics wasn't so complicated lol.

I haven't found a weapon select switch described in the way you said "IIRC called Weapons Select Switch. It switches between Magics in AA mode / Guns in AA mode / PCA selection, Else PCA Select."

I found "Magic Select, else PCA select" and was able to map one of my switches to that. I created a mission flying behind a simple jet flying straight and it's wonky using the magics. When I press the button on my x52, it sometimes will show that I'm swapped to Magics on my cockpit panel showing "S", but then when I let go of the button I mapped it will sometimes swap back to 530D. If I play around with the panel and my button, I can eventually get it to stick on magics showing the "S" on the panel. What a pain. Then, once I get it to stick on Magics (this may be separate issue) I can't lock on the plane flying straight in front of me...unless I loop around for no reason and fly at it from another angle then I am able to get the "triangle lock tone."

Gotta say, spending an hour to simply use Magics is really a pain. Please advise. Great campaign...but its items like this that make the time sink frustrating. Getting that Youtube 1-minute DCS guy to do another vid for these new "updated" Magic's would work wonders. Look forward to your help and appreciate it as always. Thank you.

  13. Fellow VR pilots,

Dk2, Rift, now Rift 2. Years in ED and other VR sims. Love it. I've lived with this issue for some time and have been meaning to put up a post, searching for a solution, for well over 1 year.

Let's say I'm in VR with my rift. Flying DCS. In a mission, but have to answer a phone call. No worries, pause DCS and ....here's where it all starts.

    - When I remove headset and just tilt it up on my head like a pair of glasses, or even move it just a bit down to my shoulders while I field a phone call, I can take a call etc and then put headset back on and continue. works every time.

    - When I set headset down in my lap or on the floor to use the restroom, spend a few minutes with real life, and then put my headset back on....it's a gamble. about 30% of the time I can pick it back up. Most the time, the screen is black, white light is still on, DCS isn't crashed on my monitor etc....but I can't get my headset to re-engage. It seems the further my headset moves from its original spot the lower the chances are of being able to re engage successfully.

I've experienced this with all of my rifts on 2 different high end gaming rigs. Please tell me somewhere, somehow, there is a solution to setting my rift down....handling real life biz for a few minutes, and then simply returning to DCS where I can pick up where I left off.

Thank you in advance and Happy New Years!

Thanks Baltic Dragon! That will help alot! Also, just curious, am I right that many of the aircraft feel a bit "slower"? The afterburners aren't even audible anymore. What gives?

  15. You can only select Magic using the HOTAS, and you no longer can using the PCA Button. However, to select the 530D, you have to select it using the PCA button. It seem strange, but this is how the real one behave, according people who know.

Would you please elaborate, specifically, on how I select the Magic using the Hotas? What command etc am I looking for? I use x52 flight sticks btw. Thank you sir.

    Ahhhh. Ok, neat. Ty.

Also, any thoughts on my speed/afterburners comment as well? She feels so much slower than she used to be and the afterburners don't provide any louder audio...like...at all. It used to.

  17. Hi,

There has been a change some time ago: you can only select missiles using the hotas

Chuck guide is your friend. https://www.mudspike.com/chucks-guides-dcs-mirage-2000c/

Kind of you to reply, but it seems you weren't too thorough reading what I said....

    - I mentioned in my my post that I'm able to click on one of the missiles (Matra D but I can't click on Magics)....so you must not be correct that you can only select missiles using the hotas. Also, any thoughts on my speed/afterburners comment as well?

    Cheers.

  18. Team,

Love this aircraft. Love the updated cockpit. I've completed the Mirage Campaign and also about 10 missions of the Red Flag Mirage (been a bit, can't recall exact name). I know this jet pretty well. Over the last few months or so, all of a sudden somethings are different....

1 - She really seems slower then going afterburners. I've dropped fuel tanks, tried everything, did the recent updates slow her down? I swear I don't have brakes on etc. Any ideas?

2 - I'm able to fire the Matra D missiles. Once I'm behind a sitting duck airplane in a mission I created....I'm able to easily switch to the mode that kind of feels like it auto locks on a target when its closer (forget that name too, please bear with me)....once I'm "auto locked on" I can click the 530 D on the cockpit and it lights up....boom I can fire. The far left missile, the magic's, I click on them all day long.....that little button never lights up. I've tried manually using the radar to lock the target and the "auto lock" mode. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance. Pardon my not remembering the names ...but I learned this beauty in VR AND while not speaking French....so over time I just learned what's where and mostly what it means.

    Thank you in advance!

  19. It has been communicated, just look in the changelog for open beta. Here is a cut and paste:

    DCS 2000C by RAZBAM

    • Weapons System Command enabled.
    • Radar search behavior updated to simulate real radar:
      - Radar antenna in TWS will not follow locked target.
      - Contact icons can disappear if they are not inside the radar sweep.
      - Contact icons now display on which bar they are located.
    • Following keybinds are modified:
      - Special Modes FWD to Weapons SystemCMD FWD
      - Special Modes AFT to Weapons SystemCMD AFT
      - Target Unlock/Special Modes Deselect to Weapons SystemCMD Depress
    • Updated Mission 06 of the campaign:
      - fixed the AI flight lead behaviour. He will now drop bombs from the
      - south and return to the anchor point.
      - fixed rare problem with the AI flight lead not taxiing.

I created a mission and am 1 v 1 vs a mig right in front of me. They are now much less obvious on the radar it seems. Smaller on the radar?

  20. Thank you so much Viper. Yes, should of been communicated. Why didn't they?

1 - What is the term for the bind that I'm forgetting....? for targeting modes for close combat radar tracking to lock on with Magics or.....can't remember the terminology.

2 - How do I release flares? You know at least what I'm trying to do...it's been so long since I bound these....can you help?

    Thank you in advance.

  21. For 1 year I've enjoyed the Mirage, flown the campaign and almost through the Red Flag. I set up all my controls a long time ago and happen to forget the proper terminology. Please bear with me.

    - Last week all was working well. Today I happen to log in, download the most recent beta, and enjoy. Normally, when I'm weapons hot I can simply press "left" on my right x52 controller thumb button (don't know the term) and it puts me in close radar mode which easily allows me to target an enemy aircraft. Whelp, that is gone. I have googled around to refresh my memory with 1 minute DCS and am now trying to find "special mode" or close radar mode .....can't find it so I can re bind it again. Can someone please help me with this?

    - Secondly, I used to simply use voice attack and say "flare" and boom, I release a flare. Now, that doesn't work either. I now have try to press "delete" and it just releases a whole clunk of countermeasures (looks like shotgun shells lol). How do I release flares instead of chaff? What key? What is it called? Decoy anything doesn't seem to include what I'm looking for. Gosh it's been a while. Help?

    - What on earth? When I go full afterburners it hardly makes a noise now and I have to look for the light to go green to notice. I didn't change audio to hear in helmet. Also, seems slower. Did they mess up the Mirage in this recent beta update? I'm actually hoping they did?

Did they mess up the Mirage in this recent beta update? I'm actually hoping they did as it would make sense. I had all this working well a year ago. Haven't touched any files, haven't deleted anything, just stopped working the way it always has. Extremely frustrating. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.
