  1. I thought he was the Shining Sparrow :P
  2. It would be about 50e for a one way train ticket to Vyborg or a bit more to St. Petersburg and 6-8 hours. And another 50 for the permit to be there, whatever that is called.. visa/visum something. And the fire- and manpower to raid all the gamestores would be a couple of bucks as well :D Well, maybe next month if the boat line to russia without the visum/visa or whatever becomes true :) Oh, It seems we don't have to plan a major robbery after all because of the link Cat just posted :cheer3nc:
  3. Not everyone can apply for a VISA, because at least in here, you have to have a steady income, so it automatically rejects students and unemployed. Visa electron would be nice to have available though, and paypal.
  4. Yeah the 8800GTS handles things better. And you can look at here for some bandwidth results and maybe test for yourself: http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=427.0 You don't need 3 monitors to test the bandwidth of the card either It does boost the System memory to video memory, but as you can see from the tests a couple of people have done, it just doesn't cut it for the video memory to system memory. Here's a snippet of my result comparison with the GTS 512 and 4870 1gb: This is the 8800GTS 512mb Adapter 0 (\\.\DISPLAY1): NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 VM to SM (Download): 1549.63 MB/s SM to VM (Upload): 2082.90 MB/s ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- And this is the exact same computer but only the GPU is HD4870 Adapter 0 (\\.\DISPLAY3): ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series VM to SM (Download): 818.48 MB/s SM to VM (Upload): 2185.40 MB/s You can find more small tests I tried with bandwidth and memory settings under the name Cunha. They're all there The effect was to rFactor that at the highest resolution I got 36fps when with the 8800 I had 48fps on the same track and car (Gp79 and Montreal.) Didn't record anything though. Also there seems to be a problem with the Matrox Triplehead2Go and ATI at the highest supported resolution (5040x1050): http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14480 There are some more stuff in the racing sim forums somewhere but couldn't find them
  5. Yes the driver problems could have been fixed for sure, but like I said, the main reason was that I play with three monitors and a big resolution (5760x1200) and that problem can't be fixed. The drop in rFactor was something like 12fps with the ati card and I couldn't even bother trying lockon. Would have been unplayable. And I only had it for a couple of days so no big tweaking sessions were possible and I really didn't even want to start that all over again. And no matter what I would have done, it still wouldn't have solved the main problem. I really did want this card but it wasn't just acceptable for my use. I've had ATI cards before with no problems but I didn't play simulators back then with multiple monitors either. No Nvidia fanbois here :v:
  6. I had the 1Gb 4870 for a couple of days and I have to say... I'm going back to nvidia :P The FPS were better in the ATI card in crysis and Hell's highway, but then at a certain level in the hells highway, it would just start bugging because of bad drivers or something. Changed to the 8.10 and same thing + freeze. And just don't like the catalyst control center either. Somehow just too.. something. Not complicated but something that just doesn't feel right. Maybe they're too red and the bad layout, I don't know :D But maybe all of those could have been sorted out eventually, but the main thing is that I get worse fps with triplescreen in SoftTH with the HD4870 than the 8800GTS 512. So for one screen and if you like to tinker with drivers all day long instead of gaming, then go for ati. But for simplicity and multimonitor go nvidia. @ 1920x1200 resolution it really doesn't matter.
  7. Here is a review about the Palit design of the 1gb 4870. A different, more powerful cooler and the structure of the card itself is different as well and it has an overclock button. Like that matters :P The same model is produced by Palit, Xpertvision and Gainward: http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=778
  8. Yes the old one has been, but I meant the Pro PE. That hasn't been cracked and what a good thing it is :)
  9. That's why it's better to just buy the game from a store than download it. Always useful to have the cd around :) And including a manual is just too expensive, let alone the 600+ pages with BS. I would like to see a copy protection that would turn your chopper into a seagull if it's pirated, like arma and that with starforce combined so that it would just explode your computer if its an illegal copy :) I don't really care if call of dutys and every other “play once and forget“ -type of games are pirated, but simulations are much more than just games and can be played over and over again without much boredom. So if they have replay value, they must be bought. Maybe a copy protection like steelbeasts could be implemented at some point? It has a little USB stick that comes with the black box with a big manual :) Leave the manual out of it and the price might not increase too much.. a bunch of random thoughts here :music_whistling:
  10. Why not? You would have your own little turbine engine there. That's just some added realism :D It seems that people buying aftermarket coolers often go for the Accelero. http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=147 It's cheap, big and effective. Another good one is the Hr-03gt http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/hr03gt/product_vga_cooler_hr03gt.htm but that one is a bit more expensive. And that one is harder to install I'd think, because the screws keep falling off. But the problem there is most likely between the chair and the gpu :P I have no experience with the accelero however. Both of them should work with the 4870 though The GTX280 would be the card to get but it is just too expensive. The 4870 1gb seems to be very affordable and playing at very high resolutions, it might be the one I'll go for. Great value. And the (rumored) GT212 isn't coming till next year and Nvidia will then again skyrocket the card prices so one can keep dreaming about that one forever.
  11. How long will the Ka-50 fly or hower with a full tank of fuel? And what about with the extra fuel pods? Can the signal flares be used the same way as the defensive flares? Not through the programming mode of course but if I run out of regular flares, will they still trick the IR missiles? Thanks :)
  12. Is there any news about the next producers note? Data link? The previous was 2 months 3 days ago :)
  13. He is just a bot or something. Do not press the links, just use the report button and mods will come to the rescue :)
  14. Never thought I would be excited to see screenshots from the gui, but the menus do indeed look very stylish and easy to use :)
  15. I wish the developers would outsource the making of skins to the community so that everyone would get the skin of their precious country on different aircraft and that might free up a couple of guys to work on the more important flight models and whatnot :) Might be less of the “Make an uzbekzfinswedinland desert cornfield camo with candy stripes so I can pretend flying at home“ pleads as well :P
  16. Yeah, with all do respect, but shouldn't this kind of stuff be on the chit chat with the rest of the RIPs and birthdays? This has nothing to do with black shark whatsoever
  17. Seems as though people get more demanding and impatient now that the release is so close. Like around the previous producer note it seemed like everyone was complaining and bickering about something and then the note came and it has been pretty calm again :P Try to think this logically. Christmas is just a couple of months away, the biggest season to buy buy buy.. So it just makes sense that christmas might be something they aim for. After that is too late and before that, why would they? Again it's so close to that time. Next month is the big simware convention or something like that and probably they announce something there. Then month after that comes the manual and month after that a release in time for santa claus and his ho-ho-hoes.. ;) Just do some knitting or go throw rocks at peoples windows or whatever you do when not playing lockon :)
  18. No that's just the default land but the first 2 are taken with camera flash on and the rest off so nothing more to it :) You do need a pretty fast computer using 3 monitors. With SofTH I get a 30+fps hit because of SoftTH but it still keeps it playable at anywhere from 20-40fps. It's because of the PCI-E that is 4x. I'm going to invest on the next generation GPU maybe around christmas or whenever BS comes out to see if that helps at all. But if Matrox manages to up the resolution on triplehead2go then buying that might be a good idea because that way I'm not limited with the 5040x1050 resolution. SofTH is free but takes a huge FPS hit. Triplehead is expensive but allows the use of SLi/Crossfire and no need for a second card so no FPS hit. SofTH allows the use of any resolution. Triplehead don't need as much tweaking? Triplehead supports the native resolution of your monitors so that might be a good investment. See with the SofTH what how much the software effects on you. (Press the button between ctrl and windows key + E during the game) If I understand that correctly the hit softTH has is the upper most FPS and the game itself is the one that is the lowest. Getting those 30fps back with a 300e triplehead might be justified, but my problem is monitors that are too big :P (I want to use the native resolution because scaling seems to add input lag and making things look strange at other resolutions) On BS the FOV and Trackir problems are fixed, I think, so that's good news :) I think that's what this means anyway: From the July dev update: - Triple-head support has been added - Multi-monitor support has been added. Now you can set, i.e. standard view + Shkval view on 2 monitor So even if not using SotTH or triplehead you can still use 3 monitors :) Middle for flying and the others for Shkval and ABRIS. Hooray! :cheer3nc: Also you might want to test the bandwidth from this thread and post it there: http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=427.0 My tests and results are also there with the username: Cunha. Hopefully these will get you in the right direction in making a decision whether buying TH2Go or maybe new pc and softth or what :)
  19. Here's how to calculate the bordersize http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=219.0 And here's the part from the FAQ about SideExtraWidth if you want to try different resolutions on the side monitors. The sideExtraWidth setting in SoftTH 1.05 allows this. For example, a setup with 1360x768 widescreen on middle monitor, 1024x768 on side monitors: - Add 1360x768x85 to the modelist at the bottom of the SoftTH.cfg file - Set sideExtraWidth setting to (side monitor width) minus (middle monitor width), that is 1024 - 1360 so sideExtraWidth=-336 - Set secondaryWidth and secondaryHeight to 1024 and 768 (You can also use another mode, such as 800x600 here for better framerate) - Game resolution is now (1360*3)-(336*2) = 3408 pixels wide, mode 3408x768 should appear on the modelist I don't know how well the "auto" setting works on the 1.08 but you don't need to change that anyway if you use the same resolution in every monitor. (auto or 0 will do) Also put 2 monitors on the 8800GTS and 1 on the 8500. That way you can use the multihead 1. Or vice versa to see if anything happens to the fps. Most people use 2 monitors on the primary card as to minimize the traffic to the second card. My second PCI-E is 4x so it slows things down a bit

Resolution: 5952x1200 And the SofTH used was 1.07. I guess 1.08 should have some squash screen setting that allows the main menu to be in one screen but the 1.08 caused me problems so came back to 1.07. You can see how the aspect ratio effects. You can see much wider and the radar screen becomes more visible. And sorry about the picutre quality and all :P The settings used here can be found in the Triplehead2go thread and all the credit goes to them people in the links :) Also these pictures were taken with the zoom all the way out. Just changing the aspect ratio in the Graphics.cfg Wow! What is the resolution on that 6 screen thingie? :) Next I'll have to try those settings from urze :) Thanks dude! Hope this will be of some help as well :) EDIT: Urzes settings work perfect with the FOV and all but zooming further out makes the textures on the sides disappear. Now just have to find the right aspect ratio again I guess.
  21. Here's Urzes post from SofTH forum http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=182.0 Hannibal: You can use SoftTH (software triplehead) with any resolution you desire and it doesn't matter what size of monitors you have. And it's free :) Oh, I almost forgot. You do need two PCI-E slots on your motherboard and a second GPU.
  22. What the hell.. If you have that computer that's in your sig Amuro, then I'm positive you will be able to run it with everything full no problem. Upgrading from that so soon would be just stupid. But hey, if you got the money then by all means go for it, but for anyone with a budjet, that would not be the smartest idea :P If that doesn't run BS with 1920x1200 everything full then it's just f'd up. Because just an oc'd 8800GTS 512MB and a Q6600 @ 3.2ghz can run lockon with 5760x1200. Not everything full of course but it's playable
  23. I have no idea. I've never even been in an airplane so maybe someone else can answer :D That ADEX08 was an air defence exercise in Finland that had F-16s, Phantoms, F-18s, Tornados and Mirages :) Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to go and see them myself Those gunpods look mean btw. Hopefully they'll be modelled in DCS :)
  24. Tornado emergency landing with nosewheel up. From ADEX 08 couple of months ago
