Just one question... is there any way to heat the oil faster?

you could PROBABLY dilute the oil by using the cold weather oil priming method by dumping some fuel into the oil. Been a LOOONG time since Ive flown the 109, but IM fairly certain theres a fuel injection button specifically for oil dilution which thins the oil out briefly. You can always give that a shot, see if it helps, but the best method for heating an engine up is to just run it at high idle (1100-1500RPM) for a few minutes while you do your taxiing and flight prep. There is no realistic way to heat the oil faster.

I would think that laser scanning/photometry is more useful in situations when shape or dimensions are unknown, irregular, or difficult to obtain.

That may be the case with the F18, but it would be surprising to me.  I would think, you could do an accurate job by just measuring panels, curves, and distances within the cockpit.

its not the accuracy of the dimensions, its getting the full flavor out of the model. You know, little flaws in the panels where one edge might be pried up with a screwdriver, paint chipped around dzus fasteners, dents here and there, rivet squeeze stress marks on skin panels, sealant squeeze out around canopy frames and panels...its every single little detail that can make the cockpit feel alive. Maybe even a paperclip that was painted over right next to the seat tracks, or frayed wire bundles. You know, the little stuff that gets overlooked. This is where that new laser scanning tech really shines and you can see it all over these new models that started with the A-10CII. Id really like to see the F-16 and 18 models scanned and introduced in some point in time if possible.

Are the F-18 cockpit dimensions known to be inaccurate?  I was under the impression it was pretty accurate in that regard.

As far as rendering, textures and art looks great to me on the Hornet.  The new Fulcrum and Hornet look similar to me, with maybe the Hornet a having slight advantage in clarity and performance (FPS) in VR.

Quality is always subjective though, and it’s a balance in terms of ensuring the final product is well optimized.  Insane levels of details are not fun if it ends up being a low-fps hog.   Case in point, the F5 remaster got the royal treatment in terms of graphics, but the lower frame rates make it less fun to fly.

My personal opinion (again, in VR) is that the Hornet is the gold-standard module in terms of cockpit art, quality, and efficiency.  I think the Mig29 has come close to matching it.

its not that its inaccurate, its that its far more detailed.

  4. Can we expect the Hornet (and a few other recent out of EA planes) to get a 3D scan and render with quality like the current F-4E and now the Mig-29A? Are there any plans to update these models?

    OMG 😱

I just found this thread and it’s a game changer! Finally my F-16C Viper TGP is usable on my external MFD display!

@Floyd1212 Well done and thanks a lot for this workaround 🙏

PS I still hope that ED would have a proper fix some day…

its kind of ridiculous that it hasn't been fixed yet.

Yes, I’ve tried that too. I’ve installed DCS on both of my solid-state drives, but it didn’t improve the issue at the time. From what I’ve found through searching, this beeping sound might occur when the system freezes due to high CPU load

did you try removing one of those drives? I mean I get it...I spent the better part of 6 months trying to fix DCS with similar issues and being frustrated not being able to play. I rarely fly nowadays because of this stuff, even more so because of VR. It turned out that park control was the only thing I needed, started fresh with DCS and no mods on a fresh M2 drive WITHOUT VR...no process lasso either. Only need one program running in the background and thats windows. Could very well be Nvidia's app or GeForce experience too.

I havent tried DCS since the F4U came out, and even then only for like an hour. Havent even tried this patch yet, so honestly dont know what to expect, but Ill have to see for myself today too. Ill report back as well, but

I've also encountered this problem, and it's really frustrating... I've tried disabling kernel isolation, adjusting CPU affinity, turning off XMP, changing the power policy, disabling core parking, reinstalling the entire game, upgrading to Windows 11, updating the BIOS, cleaning the memory modules, changing the mouse polling rate, deleting shader files, and using Steam to repair the game files. I've even modified the in - game graphics settings one by one for a control experiment... All these actions have taken me a lot of time, and not only did they not work, but the problem got worse. Now, when I try to enter the game, there's a long black - screen loading period. Sometimes, even during the loading process, the system emits a beeping alarm sound and then freezes permanently. After the latest update, after I modified some of the above settings, a new problem emerged: Moving the mouse in - game causes a significant drop in frame rate, from 150 to 40+ or even 20+, and this is the case even in the main menu... All these things have taken up a large amount of my time. Especially in the past two months, I've been preparing for the Licensed Physician Qualification Examination, and all my spare time has been spent on fixing this game, yet with no obvious results. I'm tired of it and don't want to play this game for the time being until the problem is fixed.

To add, there will be a loud system beeping alarm before freezing. After freezing, all operations will not respond, but game music and voice chat can proceed normally. After the freeze is lifted, it can be seen from the Task Manager that the GPU usage was 0% during the freeze and one of the CPUs was at 100%. That's all for my addition.

Have you tried turning off virtualization technology in UEFI? Also if you want to narrow it down a lot more, rename your saved games folder and generate a new one. Dont delete the old one, just rename it. Delete the new one if this doesnt solve anything. After that, youll have to one by one replace folders from one to the other until problems start appearing again.

I am unable to get this to work for the corsair, does the app need an update to support new aircraft? it crashes when I try to create a new folder.  Creating the folder manually also does not seem to work (doesnt show up in the UI)

I think that in order for it to work is to deactivate the Corsair module if you have it. If you're trying to make a kneeboard for the corsair, you'll have to do it manually and then click-drag from one aircraft to the corsair.

What do you suggest? If both models are not good, what is your solution? What brand has the best model?

Honesly Id go over and try Hobby Boss over Trumpeter. Ive never worked an accurate kit from Trumpeter that didnt have poor fit results, inaccurate panel lines and shapes, and be worth the price. But even so, anything is better than the Revell Monogram Thud...

After really looking at the quality Grinnelli has put into their aircraft through the images & video they post, I have total faith in them. I'm working on getting the other Thunderstick II Supplement. I have a contact at a University so I can buy a scanned copy. I have yet to scan the Nonnuclear Weapons Manual I have. That one will not be uploaded to respect ED's wishes. I will however freely loan it to a third Party Developer.

It's just hard because ther are no flying examples and good luck getting a museukm to let you crawl all over their priceless museum artifact. There was an 'F' model on loan here in WA and  begged to let them let take pics and record cockpit switch sounds. I am thinking of financing a Keyence VL-800 3D scanner and doing scans of a 1:32 scale F-105D & G model from Trupeter and Reskit after market parts they make. The platform is pretty darn big too.

I wouldnt trust Trumpeter to put out an accurate kit of a kitchen sink much less an F-105. Some of the worst designed kits out there were Trumpies.

FYI the MSFS F4 will be identical to the DCS F4. It is not a "new aircraft" and it will not use the MSFS built-in FM, unlike the MSFS Tomcat.

It shares 90% of its code with the DCS F4.

We have done that starting with the F4. Our modules are developed cross-platform. So there is no porting in that sense. 80% of the code works on both platforms and then you "just" have to add the remaining platform-specific code on top to wrap it up.

So Im hoping I read that as you are also working on the A6E in MSFS as well? please say yes....

    Gents,

Two quick questions, after having been stumped by the manual/ topic searches:

    1. Is "breaking the wire" truly all one has to do to invoke water injection? There are two key bindings in the seetings, one for water injection enable and one for water injection disable. Not really what one would expect if all one has to do is firewall it-

    2. I have bound a key to bring up the COMMS menu, but nothing happens when I use it. The COMMS menu does not show in the HUD, and the mic button on the throttle does not move. My radios are ON. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help-

in order to use comms you have to use the mike key button if you have realistic radios on. I havent looked at it yet, but you would have 2 key types to map -  one of them being for VOIP, and you only have two radios to work with. Make sure your radios are on so when you press your key,  the menu will come up.

  13. and here I was thinking that I was going to raise a dead thread here, but SALVATION. Anyways...how is the A6 coming along nowadays? Id rather have this than the Draken quite frankly even though Ill take that too...but even an AI tanker would be great. Having the F-14 and F-4E in MSFS20/24 is nice too, but those models are neutered when compared to DCS. How about making the A-6 for MSFS and THEN porting it over to DCS? You already know most of us are going to buy the thing in both stores, why not work up and not down?

    Because it's tradition!

yep, the tradition of obtaining a release day and then putting it off for another 4-6 weeks because of some unforeseen last minute issue broke something and now its going to be 2 more weeks™. but dont jinx it...
