    Gr7/9 upgrade

I would be more than happy with just a GR7/9 model with the extra hard point and tusks under the nose etc, even if the cockpit and systems were exactly the same. Probably would need some British weapons as well though: mark 80 series bombs on an RAF harrier just looks wrong. I can always dream and use RAF skins in the mean time
  2. I thought it was cut off (use the cutoff switch) not idle.
  3. I think if you are lasing for your wingman to guide his or her weapons the procedure is basically the same as if you were guiding your own weapons. The MARK laser is for pointing at stuff for people with NVGs, not for weapons guidance.
  4. Hi,in the DCS controller settings make sure the twist axis on the stick is not set up as a slider (make sure the box is unticked). I don’t use the x56 software or windows calibration and rudder works fine for me in game. Let me know about the slider thing.
  5. Try the real laser, not the mark laser
  6. I feel like I am going to get out of my depth pretty quickly here, but KG * (distance / time*2) has dimensions of momentum, not force. I'm assuming that by kn, or KN, or N you are talking about the magnitude of the thrust? And that by KG you mean the mass of the aircraft? If so, I think you might try measuring the acceleration of the jet and convert that to a force. Then make some assumptions about how the force varies with velocity, and how air resistance is going to increase with velocity. Cheers P
  7. I want to add another +1 for the homemade track IR option. I use OpenTrack and a PlayStation web cam, it cost just a few pounds/dollars and works brilliantly. Before that I used the mouse using my throttle hand which was ok for a short while.
  8. Hi, First of all can you say which mission you are actually flying? In the 'Canister Munition' Training mission there are no retarded bombs loaded, so it can't be that one. Is it the final 'Weapons Qualification' mission on the Nevada map? If not I can't find the mission you are talking about. What version are you running? I tried both the missions above and the Rockeyes drop ok, I am on 2.5.6.54046 Maybe take a screenshot as you dive on the target and we can take a look at the setup? Are you trying to drop in AUTO or CCIP mode? Thanks
  9. No problem here. Could you provide a screenshot to show the problem? And maybe one of the graphics settings? Mumby
  10. It’s on the rearm/refuel screen where you choose your bombs. Right hand side about half way up.
  11. The only thing that really works for me is to make sure I drop the gear and flaps while still in the turn as soon as I see 250kts. By the time I roll out wings level the ballooning effect has passed and I can concentrate on getting on speed. M
  12. Hi, That video is 6 months old, possibly something changed in the meantime? Do you get bricks as you close the range?
  13. In addition to what people have said about the grades being shown in the debrief window, while in the cockpit you can press the ' key to get the score window, or go to your Control Options (Escape-> Adjust Controls) and find the Action "Score window" under the general category and see what key you have mapped to it by default. Now you can keep track as you fly. Also very useful in multiplayer. Cheers, P
  14. My only comment is: very well done!:thumbup::thumbup:
  15. To raise your PoV (which is very very low in the screenshot) try RCtrl-RShift-Num8. I think Num5 resets to the centre.
  16. Totall agree with this. F5 + Cold War server = my favourite way of spending time in DCS, thanks Alpenwolf!
  17. It's so surprising to me that a box and diamod are used, which are so easy to confuse either in the sim or IRL. Not saying it is wrong or inaccruately modelled, but that is a definite error trap that I have fallen into before. Why not a circle or X for one of them?
  18. I sometimes get embarrassed by the MiG 21. Are you using Track IR or VR? For me the biggest step forward was using TrackIR (actually my home made version using Open Track), I hardly ever lose sight now, I think that is key. You can’t really apply any game plan if you can’t see him.
  19. Very interesting post thanks for taking the time! And nice work. I knew someone round here would have done it for real.
  20. 550 man hours. Not total hours. So a team of 10 could do it in a few days. Still a long time but doable. Surely it could be done faster than that? Seems like a long time but I’m not doubting the credibility of that book. I’m sure Harrier engine changes have been done on all versions in very austere conditions. Cheers
  21. Look at the difference in coulour in the deck at the end of cat 3 and 4 in the first photo. I guess part of that is new, and much darker.
  22. Hi irfanahmed1979, My 2 cents worth if it helps: First thing I noticed is that you are sitting very very low in the cockpit, too low to see the wind vane in front of you. My advice would be to raise your point of view up so that the compass heading tape is near the top of the HUD, that way you will have a better view out the front, that will give you more visual cues/reference points for controlling the hover. The second thing I wonder (and you probably realise this already) but don't forget that below 60 knots the velocity vector is actually showing rate of descent/ascent, it is not behaving as 'normal' if you see what I mean (edit: as Baltic Dragon has already pointed out above). It will transition to a total VVI once above 60 knots. From your video, it just looks to me like you might be using the stick to control the VVI, instead of using it to control the 'witches hat'. Use the throttle to control the rate of ascent/descent, and the stick to put the witches hat on the horizon and keep it there. You have to be positive with the stick to boss that witches hat around! As for the side to side, that will be difficult to control so long as your witches hat is so far from the horizon and your vertical velocity is a long way from zero, but as every else says, you have to anticipate. When I say anticipate I mean the following: lets say for example you want to correct a roll to the left, so you move the stick to the right. As you begin to role wings level, I would be adding left stick before the wings get level to ensure that I don't go too far the other way, don't wait until you are rolling to the right! Also, on the plus side I notice that your lift off and initial ascent is very smooth and under control at first, and under normal circumstances you wold transition from jetborne to wingborne flight long before your problems begin. Practice make perfect (or at least survivable!) Good luck and keep trying!
