Well for sure that they are enthusiastic about this module they are taking their time. Also understandable they must focus on the F-15 as $ spenders don't dream flying migs at night.
-
I bounced pretty bad on landing last night (pilot error) but the gear did not fall off. Not even a tire burst.. obviously the devs are sick of people complaining about blown tires and solved the issue for good.
-
I have the same setup with you and I settled on 10 curve for the pitch axis. The long throw on the short pivot length does not help with comfort or ease of use.. An extension without FFB does not make sense to me as the amount of physical stick travel remains the same after trimming out regardless of how fast or slow you are. I like this hack job, the -21 with its notchy trim seems like a perfect candidate;
-
Can you elaborate on the pros and cons of using an extension with the-21? Any curves? Would you be able to re-draw this in English? I know it’s self explanatory but I would really love to read the pilot’s notes.
-
From the manual; Short final speed for a clean -21 which is under the maximum landing weight (fuel gauge reads 700 L or less) is 330 - 340 km/h. Flare smoothly at 8-10 m to arrest and stop the descend while reducing the thrust slightly to settle at 290 - 300 km/h. If carrying ordinance or overweight then the speeds are even higher and closer to tire speed limit which is 330-340 km/h. Aerobraking is a recipe for disaster with the current flight model, and frankly I do not see the point as you don't even need the chute to slow down.

Afaik DCS is the only consumer sim that allows modelling supersonic flight. Directional stability is a limiting factor in F-16 and modelled nicely. Static and dynamic rolling friction is a much simpler issue to tackle imo. Just wait until you get told to have pet issues or nitpicking their shiny -14. Don't ever try to raise the bar, you might get pushback from fanboys

A lot of engineering and project management talk here. Alienating customers galore. Let's talk again when you actually do something about it, until then I leave you with your FS-98 flight model

Well there is no need to look up any charts in the case of -14 as you admitted HB still did not implement the fixes introduced by ED long time ago. In other words, no work is done on this issue or planned for foreseeable future as it is not a priority for HB. All -14 owners to overlook this and fly happy & merry until further notice This answered my question. I might bug you again in 6 months, but I will leave you happy and proud with what you have to offer for the time being.
-
Good point, though I don't know if the idle thrust would be sufficient to keep it rolling as the nozzles are open. Nevertheless, as admitted, HB must fix what ED fixed long time ago on their court.
-
I don't have the time to get hung up on the -14, even if you gifted it to me I would still fly other modules that does not fudge on realism. It's a shame on my part, but I am happy with my taste. Your priorities simply don't match my expectations. I only want one plane that flies by the book. Do it good and I might pay for the variants, boats, scenery and whatnot on the horizon. Or don't, who cares--but you still don't get to dictate my priorities and shun on me with weird comparisons when I ask for realism.
-
I taxi in and out each flight, but don't bother flying with one wing. I couldn't help but to revisit this issue after trying the free A-4. Have a look if you have the time. I understand HB is not a freeware publisher, but you guys have a funny way of measuring quality. It seems the bar is not high, you just need to try to reach it. Anyway I will steer clear of the -14 while you guys getting to it lol.
-
Excuse me for sidetracking--but has there been any flight model changes to ground handling since the last free to fly event? I recall the jet being extremely draggy on the ground as if it had square wheels, hardly needed any brakes to stop but took a lot of gas to taxi around. I am waiting for this to be solved first.

I am glad you find the manual interesting. It is pretty straightforward, and to my understanding the gauge is actually a calculator and without a leak in the system it provides a good estimate. Table 8 on pg 38 lists the fuel gauge readings with respect to five fuel tank empty lights during the flight as they illuminate in sequence. Pumps are turned off to prevent damage but thanks god we are not dealing with that kind of detail here. Flameouts due to fuel starvation by pulling negative or zero g over the limited times are still possible, just another example of the keeping the jet within the multiple flight envelope challenges. I don't think the F-5 has any of this detail touches in comparison.

This here says "Engine operation was excellent" so I don't know what the Tomcat guys talking about the compressor stalls etc; https://youtu.be/G-mrFcsw-Ew?t=762 They wouldn't lie like a used car salesman, would they? Excellent series, thank you for posting!

You may have a point on the MP server side of the things. Perhaps this is not occurring to me as I always repair first if necessary and then refuel & rearm. If the server allows F2 external view then I also check my loadout visually as sometimes the ground crew only partially rearms the plane due to restrictions set out in the mission or corruptions due to new patches etc. Procedure is to turn on all three fuel pumps after startup which should ensure the ventral tank is drained first if it is not the case. Keep an eye on the ventral tank empty light when it starts flickering. The light will stay illuminated once the tank is empty, and the gauge should read around 2750 L. Dead weight of the tank or the CoG shift is negligible when compared to its drag and it should be jettisoned now, then your best range on the deck is at 690 kph with two missiles. Fuel gauge can't measure the actual amount remaining as not all fuel tanks plumbed with measuring sensors. Instead, there are signal lights for the wing, ventral and no.1 tanks when they are actually empty. Pilot then confirms the remaining fuel reading and adjusts the gauge if necessary. However, in DCS, the gauge always reads the actual amount except when the ventral and/or wing tanks are jettisoned before they are actually empty. In that case, a quick adjustment to the fuel gage to indicate ~2750 L is necessary. Otherwise everything is auto-set when you refuel. I haven't notice any other abnormalities, I hope this helps. note: I usually don't carry empty tanks around so it is rare for me to land with them.

thanks for the heads up and keep up the good work

Rather than asking "manual when" I was wondering if there are any other jF-17 resources on the net. Chuck's guide and the Quick start manual both great, however, I would like to have some more info on the basic info on how to properly fly the JF such as optimum speeds/aoa for different flight regimes. Anyone willing to share? edit: not a current Jeff owner but wanting to invest time in the module as my first non alarm clock jet.

Fuel Load critical for safe landing in DCS F-16
Maxthrust replied to ruddy122's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
That's impressive, though doesn't mean you can stop before the end! I wish DCS simulated brake energy limitations, this would add a lot to realism and prevent people landing at the maximum takeoff weight. -
Fuel Load critical for safe landing in DCS F-16

6000 lbs seems a lot fuel to land with when compared to Mig-21's 1200 lbs (700 L) fuel reserve if not landing overweight. Actually you should be able to fly from Anapa to Batumi with 6000 lbs, why would you carry so much dead weight? -
Unless you have time in the seat what you think looks good is subjective. At least you are happy, not that they’re on fire to fix the mig anyway
-
Well there will be situations like that and it will always be a compromise. No need to complicate it, it’s just like driving, you focus your view outside and don’t even notice reflections. It’s particularly bad on lower settings. A workaround is definitely needed.
-
He can focus outside, we can’t

those things happen all the time. most aircraft including the -21 recovers just fine. perhaps a mocking video would help them take ACTION as they don't respond to their customers in their own forum. Last time they were slacking ED had to give them a push
