  1. Friday, Feb 16th, 2024 Update to previous posting. The following ideas and suggestions are suggestions/opinion/ideas for the next ECW patch (2.5) or sooner. Current patch is ECW 2.4 at the time of this writing. - Still no A-10 or SU-25 aircraft to select on the Caucus Split Map today. Instead, we are left with the Mig 15 (no missile capability - bad for Red Force) opposite to the Blue Forces F-86 that carries two missiles. Not a balanced trade. Also, keep SU-25 and A-10 on all ECW maps. - MI-24 Hind R60s. Keep the R60s for the MI-24 on all ECW maps. - Create an all-in-one standalone guide for the ECW Server that is all inclusive – single source for everything including future updates. Shouldn’t have to go to Discord !FAQ to learn piecemeal about what to do. Some pilots complain that they cannot access Enigma Discord for one reason or another. Include the most important updates on the Server Mission Briefing page. Something like: ‘Chuck’s ECW Dynamic Cold War Server Guide' would help greatly. - Remove the F-86 (and Mig 15) from the ECW Server. The F-86 carries two AIM 9 missiles while the Mig 15 carries no missiles – not an even trade out. Remove all training aircraft as well – of no value on this server. Trade these aircraft Server slots for the F-4E and other aircraft/helicopters in the future. Only so many slots on the Server. - KA50 Helicopter. Time for the KA50 Black Shark 2/3 to be introduced on the Server? Time frame now is allowing F-14 and Mig 29s now onto this Server with the F-4E and Mig 23 to soon show up on the Server. The KA50 would make a great Hunter/Killer team with the MI-24 and other Red Helicopters - not sure what could be added to the Blue side helicopter choices. - Ramming other aircraft. If ramming is ok to do, then please put it on the Mission Briefing page. Whether deliberate or not, having no ammo/low on fuel/’cornered like a rat’ where you can’t get away due to multiple enemy aircraft should be prohibited -- you wouldn't do it in the real world... this is a simulation and not W.T. An aircraft ramming was deliberately done recently by a very well respected Server pilot who admitted in the tab chat to the following reasons for ramming a Mig-21 -” I was out of ammo so I rammed you...” I know this is difficult to enforce. - Keep AWACS aircraft invulnerable. No need to pay credit or request spawn of AWACS - keep it simple. Invulnerable AWACs simplifies things. - Communications. Everyone should at least monitor the primary comms frequencies for jets and helicopters. Just practice good comms. Keep conversations short and simple. Pilots concerned about not being able to talk to anyone on SRS because it was explained to them that many of the pilots have gone over to their private Discord comms - this comes across as 'elitist' by doing this and not a team effort to win. Exception: Helicopters. - Live GCI. Eliminate live GCI because the exceptional new EWR auto display, BRAA notifications, are now available on our PC gaming screen. Besides, the live GCI is ‘over-the-top too helpful.’ Have watched many of the Y.T. uploaded dogfights using live GCI and they are micro-managing the pilot's dogfight down to a couple of hundred feet from their aircraft. They make it so that the pilot doesn’t even have to turn his head to even ‘check six’ because GCI is telling them everything right down to who is flying off of his/her wingtip. Is that balanced? Realistic? EWR bot callouts are excellent! (no live GCI required) Should continue across the whole hex-based map and not just on your side. Note: A great expert opinion on how effective the GCI really was during the time frame (1980s?) that the ECW Server is trying to depict is Tactical Pascale – who was a real-world GCI controller (in England I think) and has put out many YT videos. This ECW Server is one of the very finest, exceptional Servers out there -- well done by all of the Enigma/ECW Team! I'm trying to keep suggestions that keep the Server fair and balanced for the time period that the ECW Staff appear to be depicting... 1980s i think. Not trolling here, really. Just looking for ideas and suggestions to help improve the ECW Server for all of us - especially if we want to bring newer players onto this Server. Maximo
  2. Subject:  SU-25A vs F-86 on Enigma's Cold War Server - Jan 2024.

Primarily for Growling Sidewinder but all comments and ideas from all pilots appreciated.

    1. Could someone make a YouTube video on comparing the SU-25A vs the F-86 fighting 1 v 1 on ECW's Server or simply do a live three-round 1 v 1 comparison?  My concerns are the lack of damage to the F-86 from the SU-25A, F-86 maintains power and climbs/maneuvers normally with a flap shot off, appears to climb/maneuver regardless of damage.

I am very familiar and proficient with the SU-25A, use of flaps on/off in a dogfight with the slightly superior thrust to weight of the SU-25A etc.

Damage modeling and realistic thrust/power requirements for the F-86 are my real concerns.

    2.  Do you feel that the  F-86 damage  and flight modeling should be updated?  And if so, should the F-86 jet remain on the ECW Server until the flight/damage modeling is updated?

Not trolling here.  Really don't know what the right answer is here.

Again, would like to see two really good pilots in the SU-25A vs F-86 do a three round series of equal dogfights with two missiles and guns on YouTube.

    All candid comments appreciated.

  3. If you have a Nvidia graphics card, make sure you are using the first option in the Nvidia Control Panel titled 'Image Scaling'. I use 50% but many use 20 to 30%. Make sure to checkmark "Overlay Indicator" too. I swear I can now see the bombers twice as far away now; especially looking down when they are flying below contrail level. It sharpens the edges. See YT videos for 'Nvidia Image Scaling" often referred to as NIS. Salut! I think this server would benefit from the blue dot/red dot labeling but that is considered a 'crutch'. It would cut down on the expensive use of every time people call Overlord bot for guidance, etc. fyi.
  4. Check out the Texas 149th Helicopter Training Server on the Multiplayer Server section of DCS. [ If you can't locate it, then you may need to update your current DCS to the Open Beta version of DCS - there are over 1200 Servers listed in DCS 2.7.9 Open Beta !] You don't have to read below this line - for newer DCS helicopter pilots that are new to DCS Multiplayer (MP) Servers. Feel free to comment and critique/correct anything. We'll always go with the better suggestion and comments. S! I fly as: Pistol 9-9 I Mikey ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I got tired of going onto so many great Servers with fast-movers/jets that sped over to the targets that I had selected and flown to for 10 or 15 minutes in my KA-50 Black Shark 2 only to have the target destroyed just before I get to it. So I went looking for a Helicopter Only Training Server with the right mix of nearby targets to your FARP/launch point for the most fun and no jets flying around. My choice is the Texas 149th Helicopter Training Server and here's why: 1. Many ground targets surround your takeoff point and are a short flight of about 4 or 5 minutes in any direction. 2. No jets on the site that I know of so your target will still be there. 3. Very well managed and run. A solid Server - have flown on it solo for a few weeks with no problems. 4. The targets are pretty cool and varied - they 'scatter like rats' when attacked and hide to some degree. They shoot back-from the small missiles on Hummer-like vehicles to AK47 soldiers firing. They use some of the bigger AA guns/tanks - 57mm I think, as well as the 23mm guns. 5. Labels: Dot Only. (enemy targets are a red dot) 6. F10 map key is available. All friendly helos can be seen. There are no enemy helicopters on the Server. They also use smoke in the distance to help you orientate where there may be some targets. 7. Starts with your helo hot/engine running. New players-make sure to load weapons/missiles, etc. Helicopter is clean on startup. - I think the Server resets every 4 hours? not sure. - l'd recommend that you download DCS Simple Radio Standalone (DCS SRS) here: http://dcssimpleradio.com/ . [ I use the latest version which is 1.9.9 ] If you download DCS SRS, just make sure to assign a transmitter key either on your joystick, HOTAS, or keyboard. Select 'autoconnect' is a good idea too. You don't have to talk on the radio but you can learn a lot by listening to other pilots talk and coordinate their attacks on a specific target. It adds a fun immersion when you can hear others talking. Start DCS SRS before logging into DCS World is a good idea too. - Let's have fun on this Server! We could 'flashmob' the Server with helicopter new guys flying and training, etc., on the hour or half hour and text or talk about what everyone wants to do. For example, prior to takeoff, if you don't want to talk, just text: " heading for convoy north of my position. See you there." Or: " working the south end of the convoy, you guys work the north end of the convoy - we'll meet in the middle for join-up formation back to FARP/base." Or: 'gonna fly solo today guys - I'm new.' (i.e, leave me alone). You get the idea. - You don't have to chat or talk on the Server, but it would be fun to see other helicopters attacking targets just for the fun of it. Tag along and have fun, take nothing personal, ask questions if you're having trouble with your helicopter flying. After all, it is a training server. ps. I am not affiliated with this Server or its staff in any way. For those that are, Well done! This is the ideal helicopter training Server! Pistol 9-9 I Mikey
  5. Check Aux Inverter Switch is set to OFF. Do not turn this switch on. Located on right lower side of switches - has a red border around it. fyi. Credit goes to a Reddit Forum community poster. They had the same problem.
  6. Mike_Romeo, Good to know. I wanted to let you know that I did successfully update my existing DCS 2.7.7 Stable version by following your instructions - it worked perfectly: "Standalone: 1. Go into the dcs\bin folder 2. Hold Lshift and right click somewhere in the folder 3. Click on "open PowerShell window here" 4. Type .\DCS_updater.exe update '@openbeta' and press enter 5. Download the update" It worked perfectly for my pc (non Steam) and I have been reading Enigma's FAQs, etc so that I can fly on his Server in the future, along with other cold war Servers (I'm looking for an ideal Server for the KA-50 Black Shark 2 which I fly a lot.)' Thanks again and I really appreciate the help. Salut! Before the update, I was showing about 115 Multiplayer Servers. Now I show over 400 Multiplayer Servers! ' Mikey ' - on online multiplayer play
  7. Thanks very much for the info and quick reply! I think this will help a lot of the newer players to DCS to understand this too. Perhaps Enigma will be able to put this into a future video that explains why new players may not see his Server after downloading DCS 2.7.7 Stable. I've had a lot of trouble with Open Beta downloads in the past so I will just wait until Enigma's Server is back in the Stable version of DCS in the future. I know enough about computers to be a danger to myself and others! Salut and thanks again.
  8. The Server is not listed on my DCS MultiPlayer Server listing. I show about 103 to 114 Servers on the average. I am using the stable 2.7.7 version of DCS and have been flying on the Training Servers primarily. Have done DCS World Cleanup, Repair, and Updater is current. Would like to fly the Mig 21 and support in other financial ways too. Do I need to download the Beta version of DCS that is out in order to see Enigma's Server? (as well as any Korean F-86/Mig 15 Servers) Any advice appreciated. If this question has been asked and is too obvious, I can delete this message once someone lets me know how to access the Server. fyi. Great YouTube videos on this Server. Well done! Don't know if the KA-50 will be in the Cold War mix for this Server. Would be fun I guess but not realistic. S!
  9. Dec 31, 2020 New YouTube Video: Hind MI-24 Helicopter Walkaround Tour (Dated December 28th, 2020) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H17sXrWgAgQ http://blog.cwam.org/ Video is 1 hour and 16 minutes long. Five out of five star review. Loaded on YT by an Erik Johnston: “Bruce Stringfellow gives a detailed Walkaround tour of his HIND MI-24 Soviet Helicopter. This is the most detailed video of the Hind that I can find, I hope you enjoy it!!” Fresh out of a total refurbishment and overhaul. Believe they have two of the MI-24 helicopters in Lancaster, Texas - http://blog.cwam.org/ Cold War Air Museum-Lancaster, Texas. "All it takes is money." "If it was easy, then it would be boring." Max (not affiliated with any museums, etc. Just love the MI-24 and can't wait to buy it on DCS. LOVE flying the KA-50 with autopilot and Flight Director switches engaged)
  10. Could someone provide an update based on Zulu times and days when the latest players, squadrons, etc., are on this server? Would like to bring in new players not only when no one is on the server for mission familiarization but also have them check in with you first via online chat to observe some of the larger, complex, fun scenarios that you guys fly and fight! I've read through all 28 pages and there is a lot of good stuff but the dates and times for the missions may not be in current use. Do the 'bombers' (C-130s) still fly out at the beginning of the missions more than just once? Have been busy flying the F-18 and Harrier....too many lights and switches for me! I can honestly say that this SeaQuark Server is the finest DCS World Server with its 'just right' amount of complexity and mission-goal orientation with the F-86 and the Mig-15bis to have a lot of realistic fun. Extremely well done by SeaQuark and all you guys who have helped him out! [Can delete this message if so instructed; no problem] Maximo ps. Would like to make a donation to the SeaQuark Server via PayPal and not Patreon.
  11. For RAZBAM thread specifically: I wanted to bring up the F-8 Crusader -- I think this would be a good match up for the MiG-21. The U.S. Navy did use it for something called dissimilar air combat training (DACT)...using the F-8 to represent the MiG-21. This would give the MiG-21 a good 1 v 1 dogfight on the servers, campaigns, etc. F-8 vs MiG-21. Or F-8 against F-8 (opposing side). Would like to see it flight modeled and mouse driven cockpit like the F-86F. Maybe a Museum Relic type of campaign with MiG 21 and MiG 15 aircraft in the mix.... Guns, rockets, air-to-air missiles, bombs, reconnaissance cameras, folding wings. Inflight refueling probe too - was considered very difficult to air refuel because the drogue basket was like 2 feet from the canopy of the F8 pilot....would break a lot of canopies! (hey, we're DCS pilots....we LOVE a challenge!!! :-) Also, I can't imagine what it would be like to also land this jet with the wing raised up for landing it on an aircraft carrier--must have been a very flat approach to the carrier deck even with flaps down and the wing up. Could use Caucasus maps, etc. LOVE this jet! If you forget to lower the wing before entering very high speeds, you can rip the wing off (if still in the raised position). Will update this intro thread as time permits. Has four 20 mm cannons (firing below...un-retouched photo): This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. 13. I wanted to bring up the F-8U Crusader again because I think this would be a good match up for the MiG-21. The U.S. Navy did use it for something called dissimilar air combat training (DACT)...using the F-8U to represent the MiG-21. This would give the MiG-21 a good 1 v 1 dogfight on the servers, campaigns, etc. F-8U vs MiG-21... 14. Yes! Thud Ridge in the F-105; napalm with the F-100 (Caucasus map.) F-8 Crusader ?!? The flight modeling for landing on the carrier would be interesting - wing is elevated for landing. I think the U.S. Navy use to use the F-8 to simulate the MiG 21? To dogfight against F-4 Phantom jets... not sure about my research. F-105 Wild Weasel Missions...
  15. F9F Panther. Maybe a Museum Relic #2 Campaign: Story driven - F9F Panthers flying off the coast of 'North Korea' (Sochi/Caucasus coast map); aircraft would be F9F Panthers carrier based for takeoff/launch and landing after a combat mission on a carrier; F-86F would provide air cover against the MiG 15s. Takeoff and land the F9F on the carrier with the canopy open! :-) [Credit here for Apache600 for making one of the best mission campaigns for new pilots with Museum Relic Campaign. Salute!] BelSimTek could create the F9F Panther (with folding wings-see photo below); use current Caucasus Map; period helicopters, etc. Think of the movie: The Bridges at Toko-Ri with the American actor William Holden. Its appeal to me as a new DCS World pilot (currently flying Museum Relic with F-86F) would be the F9F would have basic electronics and navigation similar to the F-86F and MiG 15bis -- not too complex for a new pilot. And, a chance to takeoff and land on an aircraft in one of the most basic jet fighter bombers of the 1950s. Final mission in the F9F Museum Relic Campaign could be that you-as Squadron Commander, lead the whole squadron from carrier launch, attack targets/dogfights, and then land back at the aircraft carrier. Believe there would be a large market for an intro story driven carrier operations aircraft and campaign....and it wouldn't take a 300 page manual to learn.... M. Canopy open for takeoff and landing! :-) Some BAR: Big Axx Rockets:
  16. When you say to delete it, do you mean to uninstall ALL of DCS World? I am new to DCS World. Have been flying the Mission Relic Campaign with F-86F for two months with no problems. I just purchased, downloaded (yesterday) nine programs of Campaigns and new aircraft that are presently on sale: five A-10C campaigns, F5E II, MiG 15bis, MiG 21, etc. The F-86F and the Mission Relic Campaign worked fine after the download. Then I did a defrag and optimize of the D drive where DCS World is located (I regret that action now...) I get the same message: "DCS.exe - Bad Image D:\DCSWorld\bin\edObjects.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your System Administrator or the software vendor for support. Error Status 0xc0000020." Note: the D:\DCSWorld\bin\edObjects.dll file indicates it has 0 Kbts in the file. It also takes four clicks on the OK error message portion to acknowledge the message... almost like there are four errors? Not an IT dude. Appreciate any help. Only occurred since these new downloads using the recommended DCS World site, etc. My Hard drive is 1 year old (Lenovo y900 Gaming Computer with GEFORCE GTX 980, 16Gb RAM, 2TB hd, etc.) Maximo

  18. Just completed F-86 Mission #5. The Museum Relic works perfect! Really outstanding for a new player like myself! Maximo
  19. F9F Panther with carrier landings and takeoffs.... "Guns, rockets, and bombs...oh my!!!" :-) Think: "Bridges at Toko Ri " Campaign.
