Its possible it could be something with your Virpil  there are a couple of older post in the DCS Virpil forum where a person had to update their hotas firmware.  Winwing had a similar issue with their software it kept polling the game for info and causing stuttering. At the time most people just made sure the program didn't start and windows startup.

Hope you get it figured out

Thanks for the suggestion, I was wondering about that too, but in my search for a solution I updated Windows and now I can’t use my Quest with DCS until the patch that was supposed to be today. Guess I’ve got another week to wait before I can get back to trouble shooting…

I'm on the latest version of DCS but here are some screen shots of my Q Pro settings with link cable if they help any.  On the debug tool screen it shows ASW as auto but I usually have it disabled. In the open xr toolkit I run CAS  and I throttle my frame rates to 45. Only other thing that comes to mind is do a DCS slow repair and if there was an app for the blue tooth headphones added remove it.

Thank you Tomcat388th for the suggestions and taking the effort to post your settings. This “phenomenon” has appeared despite consistent good performance up until Friday and no changes to DCS settings. No app for the headphones, and I’ve done a slow repair today, but still getting this weird lag despite low frame times.

Could you please let us know your PC specs? And could you screenshot a view of the dcs fps/frametime overlay? Do you have any other open XR layers active, such as QVFR or XRNS?

I can do specs (4090 5900x 64gb nvme) but not sure how to get a screen shot of the overlay, would print screen do it? I’m using quad-views and according to OpenXR toolkit my frametimes are good. I’ve got 7ms for cpu and gpu (just me in a Hornet flying over Georgia)  and it’s still juddering and laggy. I think it’s the quest rather than DCS, unless the fps counter is lying to me (turbo mode is off.) Head movement does not feel smooth when I look around the cockpit. I’ve got some time tomorrow hopefully to look at it again.

Did you check the USB port that your headset is plugged into to ensure that it’s the fastest one available?

Some motherboards seem to have a variety of USB port types, and there are significant differences in bandwidth capabilities.  If you’ve accidentally plugged the link cable into a slower port, that will certainly cause issues (no clues as to how I know this).

I did change the port recently and your suggestion reminded me, but nah, problem persists no matter the port and I’ve run the test in the oculus app and they all seem to be about 2.3gbps. I do think the issue is with the Quest rather than DCS though. I did set up my new Virpil gear since last I played without this lag issue, could that be a potential cause?

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ve got sometime tomorrow to try and work this out. I’ll report back if I have any success or beg for more help if I’m at a total loss. 🙂

  3. I’m using a quest pro over a link cable and it’s been great, but today I’m finding it very juddery despite having a solid 72fps. If I bank the plane the horizon jolts and judders (was smooth before) and if I just look out the side at the ground at low level there’s a definite stutter every few seconds. But all the while the FPS reads 72 (via OpenXR toolkit)

I haven’t updated DCS in a while so still on 2.9.2xxxx.

Up until today all was well. I did  connect a new pair of Bluetooth headphones to my pc today, could that be it? The problem persisted after I disconnected them so it doesn’t seem likely. I also plugged a usb powered strip of led lights into my pc’s usb hub, but it wasn’t plugged in when I was playing DCS, could that cause problems? I’m clutching at straws because it was fine before today and I’m scratching my head.

I’m hopping you guys could give me some suggestions as to what could make this happen so I can start trouble shooting, because I don’t have a clue and it’s making flying quite unpleasant. I have tried Googling this but nothing I can find helps.

  4. Alas I have run into the inevitable technical problem.

My grip (TM F18) is not detected when using the 200mm extension but is when plugged straight into the base. Before I contact Virpil I just thought I’d check I’m not missing something. Anyone have this happen and found a fix?

Sorted! I needed to pull the wire out of the bottom of the extension to ensure a proper connection to the base. All working now. 🙂

Just the task of rebinding buttons for all my modules, that should only take a week or two. 😉

Went for the TM Hornet grip in the end. The logic being: i can fly a Tomcat with the Hornet one but I can’t fly a Hornet with the Tomcat one.
Does it work ok with Virpil stuff? Just wondering if you can mix these things without them getting in a tizz.

TM Hornet grip here with a WarBRD, works fine.

Thanks, I spent a fortnight uming and ahring about it. Finally pulled the trigger (sorry) today.

Unrelated, but I was in CEX earlier today (Xbox broke) and they had a Warthog stick w/ base in brand new condition for £109. Thought that was a pretty good deal. Was tempted just because it looked so new and clean!

So your running fine with V63 on the QP and Oculus PC software.  My PC app has not updated yet still on 62. something QP is 63 so I'm still able to use link cable but have Virtual Desktop to fall back on if needed.

    J

As far as I can tell, yes. The oculus app on my pc downloaded an update the other day and it says version 63. My Windows 10 is asking to update, think I’m going to say no just incase.

Ofc Sod’s Law dictates next time I go to use my QP it won’t work anymore for some mystical reason hehe.

Without solid Data we can only make guess in the blue.

My one is some use Win11 while others use Win10. May be also Nvidia/AMD and so on. But who knows... 🤐

I’m on Win 10 with Nvidia 4090 and AMD 5900x for what it’s worth, and not having any problems (QP, v63, DCS v2.9.2somthing) OXR, toolkit and quad views all working nicely.

I´d send them a mail and just ask about availability for the Mongoos.

Meanwhile you could still use your old WH grip.

That’s a good idea, but it requires a level of patience I simply don’t poses 😉😉  Really I want a new grip, after 8 years of use my WH one is coated in all sorts of grime (mostly dead skin I’m guessing, nice.)

Unfortunately I had to ditch the base, which was awesome, as the winwing grip is incompatible with the virpil base 😞. That sad I have been very impressed with the winwing base and stick, different design philosophy very precise and very light.

I just couldn’t go the WinWing route, I have terrible luck and I couldn’t risk it. Shame though, it looks great and the price is good. Very tempered by the hornet takeoff panel.

I’ve never experienced play whilst using either a TM warthog or hornet grip with my virpil base.
maybe I’m not as sensitive as other people?

I currently use an Alpha in preference

This is good to hear, and I think I’ve found the cause of the problem in another thread (two screws need to be removed) so I’m confident now that TM or Virpil will be fine.

Right now I’m torn between the TM Hornet or the Virpil F14 grip.

True indeed, right up until you’re sat in the cockpit of an F35 I suppose. Next day they release an F36 😉

Man, I'm sorry about your relationship. But you chose the best eco system, you might as well order a Rhino FFB base now.
    Cheers!

    Thanks man, I’m gutted.
I’ve found out (as is so often the case) that when you think something is top end you soon discover  there’s is an even topper end.

So... One you are currently single you can Google whatever you want!

Two, the fit on the F16 Stick is fine and works well,.

Three, i don't know about the replacement, but I just went to winwing, after much ummjng and ahing, because I couldn't find a virpil grip I would get on with... The closest fit was the constellation alpha.

Haha yes but you can’t unsee things 😉 I’ll need to try the wh grip and see I suppose, if it does fit nicely it will do for now. Regarding the WinWing you use now, did you bin off the Virpil base then? As far as I know you can’t fit WinWing grips onto Virpil stuff? If so please don’t tell me it’s better.

Well, for the spit you'd like the differential braking, IIRC the brake lever on a TM is only button press, usable but not ideal

But where did you get the idea the Mongoost is no longer available?  Out of stock, yes. Out of production?

    https://virpil-controls.eu/vpc-mongoost-50cm2-grip.html

Yeah an axis for breaking would be great for the spit and mossie. The reason I wonder about the mongoose grip is that you can back order everything else but not that, seems suspicious.

  13. So irl seems to be taking a dump on me at the moment (my wife left me) so I thought I’d try and cheer myself up with a new Hotas (it almost worked.)

So having spent a few months researching and going back and forth in my mind between Virpil (quality) and WinWing (Looks, price and button count) I settled on Virpil. As great as the WinWing stuff looks, the potential quality issues and customer service really put me off. So I went with Virpil cm3 throttle and base with the 20mm extension plus to desk mounts. Though most of the items in my order being listed as back order it all arrived today, 5 days after I ordered it. I was expecting a month wait at least, so did let out a “woo hoo!”

So onto the inevitable question. The more observant amongst you will have noticed I didn’t order a grip. I’m moving on from a TMWH and know I can use the grip from that, but i hear it isn’t a perfect fit and there is a little play. Anyone have experience with this and is there a fix? I do want a new grip though as my WH one is 8 years old and filthy (“how to clean a filthy joystick” is something I dare not Google) and sadly the Virpil mongoose grip seems to be no longer available. I’m looking for suggestions really, I thought the TM Hornet stick looks pretty nice but worry it will not connect properly. Is there likely to be a replacement for the mongoose from Virpil anytime soon? What are you guys using with the cm3 base and 20mm extension? I mainly fly the Hornet and Spitfire but like to struggle to fly many others.

    Thanks

  14. Did you try Turbo mode in OXRTK? With that off mine was a juddery mess, turned it on and all was well again. This was 2.8 MT though.

From what you say I should be fine and without the need to spend a week in the various settings menus. 😉

  15. Thanks @sze5003, glad to see you’re making progress with the QP. Out of the 4 headsets I’ve owned it was deffo the biggest pain in the butt to get working nicely. Is MT being borked new to 2.9? MT was fine for me in 2.8.

I really just want to be able to use my settings from before regarding everything (DCS, OXRTK, QVFR etc) and have a quick whizz around in the Spit. Possible or is some jiggery pokery a requirement?

  16. I’m wondering, if I download 2.9 and don’t touch any of the new settings will DCS still run as well as it did before?

I honestly don’t have the time for tinkering at the moment and the internet connection is something like 5mbs in my shed so it’d probably take all day to download. But I do want to check out the new Spitfire.

  17. This is the lead I use now:

    (that’s a long link!)

I bought the official lead when I bought the headset, but it would be on 20% battery after 3 hours of use (roughly speaking). With that lead the battery still drains but I’ve not seen it go below 60%. This ofc isn’t your problem. I’ve read things about Asus and Oculus not playing well together, and I remember having to buy a usb card for my pc (with an Asus mobo) when I bought the CV1 all those years ago. That was doing what you describe, plugged into a usb 3 port but still not working.

To be honest though my personal life has been pretty chaotic over the last couple of months and as a result I haven’t used my QP much, so I’m probably not the best person to be offering advice. 🙂
