  1. The gentleman who started this thread and has been the Aero go-to guy for many of us here passed away a few weeks back and will be greatly missed. Cya in another place Don! As for comfort, coming from a G2 with a counterweighted Apache strap I find this headset even more comfortable and easy to get on/off that my G2. I added the Creative Apache to the Aero from Day1, can't imagine it being any better but the reality is headshapes, noses, etc. are different so maybe you just have the shape that doesn't fit the Aero. I would definitely recommend the Apache 250gm strap, but can't say it will help you or not..
  2. There is an older thread here that has a page and a 1/2 of relatively incorrect information up front to solve the crazy cockpit antics you get when auto-rotation kicks in using the XRNS app (or no response at all!) in the Aero. As this solution has proven effective for all who tried it so far, hopefully it will help more people. 1. Be SURE you have the latest download of version of XRNeckSaferBeta5a from GitHub (https://gitlab.com/NobiWan/xrnecksafer) 2. Be Sure Varjo Foveated is installed, check Control Panel\Programs and Features for "OpenXR-Varjo-Foveated" 3. Run XNRS and check the "OpenXR\Show active OpenXR API Layers" list in XNRS. The "OpenXR API Layers" window should show "XR_APILAYER_MBUCCIA_varjo_foveated" and "XR_APILAYER_NOVENDOR_XRNeckSafer" 4. If XRNeckSafer is not on top of the list (which it usually isn't), that is the problem, it needs to be the FIRST API loaded. If it is 1st and you still have some sort of graphical issue, see the bottom of this post*. 5. To change the order of the APIs there is a great new app, download the API Layers GUI program here -( https://github.com/fredemmott/OpenXR-API-Layers-GUI ) 6. To see all APIs running and change the order run the pertinent GUI exe for your system (I used the "OpenXR-API-Layers-Win64-HKLM" exe). Select the XRNeckSafer API, click the Move up button (to the top even if you have more than 2 API's showing), done! *From @MastahFR on the Varjo\dcs-world Discord - "You should always have the [API] layer doing spatial / positioning correction [XRNS] run first, then display/render transformation (VFR, QVFR), then render correction (color, brightness, like OXRTK) and then render capture (OBS, ...)". So if you run Quadviews foveated and OXRTK, the API order should be: 1. XRNS 2. Quad_views_foveated 3. OXRTK Hope this helps someone going forward!
  3. I think as long as XRNS API is at the top of the API list it will work correctly. From @MastahFR on the Varjo\dcs-world Discord - "You should always have the layer doing spatial / positioning correction [XRNS] run first, then display/render transformation (VFR, QVFR), then render correction (color, brightness, like OXRTK) and then render capture (OBS, ...)". Me. I just run XRNS and Varjo Foveated, so it's simple..
  4. Figured I would put this here along with a thread on XRNeckSafer elsewhere for anyone wanting to use this fantastic app and is having problems- The saga - With the patient help of DerKlausi on the Varjo Discord I finally have XRNS working perfectly. The final key (after an XRNS 5a remove/reinstall) was the order of the API layers, as the Varjo Foveated API finally showed up in XRNS's "OpenXR\Show API Layers" list after a fresh XRNS5a download and re-install (This was [my] problem #1). First try in the cockpit with fresh XRNS, with Varjo Foveated API showing on top line of the XRNS Show API list, I got black blocks and strange movement in the cockpit whenever Auto-rotation kicked in (but it was actually finally doing something!). As soon as I (using the "OpenXR-API-Layers-Win64-HKLM.exe" app) moved the XR_APILAYER_NOVENDOR_XRNeckSafer.json Layer to be above the XR_APILAYER_MBUCCHIA_varjo_foveated. json Layer, all was well in DCS.. The solution - So (for me) the key was to uninstall XRNS 5a, reinstall a freshly downloaded version of XRNeckSaferBeta5a from GitHub (https://gitlab.com/NobiWan/xrnecksafer), run XNRS and check the "OpenXR\Show active OpenXR API Layers" list in XNRS,. If XRNeckSafer is not on top of the list (which mine wasn't), use the API Layers GUI program ( https://github.com/fredemmott/OpenXR-API-Layers-GUI ) to change the order (I used the "OpenXR-API-Layers-Win64-HKLM" exe). Select the XRNeckSafer API, click Move up (to the top), done! Never occurred to me not showing the Varjo Foveated API in XNRS could actually be an XRNS issue (to cause me to reinstall) as it worked fine in IL-2... and forget about the API Layer order, never would have gotten that without help.
  5. With the patient help of DerKlausi on the Varjo Discord I finally have XRNS working perfectly on my Varjo Aero in DCS MT.exe with XRNS and Varjo Foveated Rendering (pretty sure it will work with other APIs also). The final key (after an XRNS 5a remove/reinstall) was the order of the API layers, as the Varjo Foveated API finally showed up in XRNS's "OpenXR\Show API Layers" list after a fresh XRNS5a download and re-install. First try in the cockpit, with Varjo API showing on top line of the XRNS Show API list, I got black blocks and strange movement in the cockpit whenever Auto-rotation kicked in (but it was actually finally doing something!). So for me the key was to uninstall XRNS 5a, reinstall a freshly downloaded version of XRNeckSaferBeta5a from GitHub (https://gitlab.com/NobiWan/xrnecksafer), run XNRS and check the "OpenXR\Show active OpenXR API Layers" list in XNRS,. Select the XRNeckSafer API, click Move up (to the top even if you have more than 2 API's showing), done! Never occurred to me not showing the Varjo Foveated API in XNRS could actually be an XRNS issue (to cause me to reinstall) as it worked fine in IL-2 (because Foveated rendering is disabled in IL-2)... and forget about the API Layer order, never would have gotten that without help.
  6. Well, a light went off in my head (dim, but there) and I was thinking that since Steam VR is active (for the lighthouses), wonder what would happen if I ran VRNS instead of XRNS. Guess what, VRNS works in the MT.exe.. I don't like the way VRNS auto-rotates (chunky, not smooth like XRNS) but that may just be a setting adjustment, and of course no Pitch settings. The L/R Snap option works perfectly. So the new question is, why is XRNS not working in an OpenXR environment and VRNS is? I tried disabling OpenVR support in Varjo base to see if that was causing some sort of a conflict, no effect. The quest continues, but maybe this revelation will help someone figure this out. Edit: I should add Steam and SteamVR are not normally running, just whatever Varjo Base runs for the Lighthouses. As soon as I start VRNS STeamVR starts up, so I assume thats why it is functioning in game.
  7. As far as XRNS's "Show Active API Layers", all I have showing is XR_APILAYER_NOVENDOR_XRNeckSafer... but I am sure I have the Varjo FR API installed..
  8. I just joined the "doesn't work" club. Tried it in MT and the std exe, tried setting it to run as Admin, tried starting DCS 1st them XRNecksafer, no autorotation at all. Go outside the game, with it running, inputs show as normal in XRNS. The only OpenXR API layer is " XR_APILAYER_NOVENDOR_XRNeckSafer". Went back into IL-2, works flawlessly.. Edit: I also tried installing the Quad_views FR, no good, then tried changing the order the APIs loaded using the API-Layers-GUI, that blew both of them up causing an uninstall of Quad-views and an Uninstall/Reinstall of XRNS. Also tried using Snap insted of Autorotation, NG...
  9. SOLVED. Not a regular DCS flyer, been using XRNS in IL-2 for some time, works perfectly. Just tried it in DCS (been a while) and while it's active and the recenter key works, it does not "Autorotate" in the cockpit. Tried it in MT and openbeta exe, and it is running as Admin.. Noticed (checked while in the cockpit) the only OpenXR API layer is " XR_APILAYER_NOVENDOR_XRNeckSafer", should DCS be running something, or is there some setting in DCS i'm missing?
  10. Just a thought, but if Don touched/helped you in some way you can leave a message here for his family. They should know he had MANY friends out in the world.. https://www.echovita.com/us/obituaries/fl/apopka/donald-burnette-17203992

  12. For those that don't know (and I didn't until seeing a Varjo/dcs-world Discord post from mbucchia), Don (dburne) posted a "Farewell" in the "chit-chat" forum here on October 29th, and here he was, riddled with cancer, trying to help someone on 10/31.. He passed on November 10, just 10 days later. RIP Don, you have helped/touched many people..
  13. And Varjo is doing a -10% Black Friday sale right now! Pays for most of the cost of a lighthouse!
  14. Unbelievable, the same day Don posted this he posted a farewell in Chit-chat, falling victim to cancer, and he was gone ~10 days later. Great guy, always there with advice and help, he will be missed..
  15. So sorry to just see this now, Don was a BIG influence on why I got an Aero and setting it up, he will be greatly missed....
  16. @javelina1 - I use Varjo Foveated in both DCS and IL-2 Box sims, no issues. I can't speak for MSFS but can't imagine it would be a problem..
  17. @javelina1 - Mbuccia created both the Varjo Foveated and the Quad-views Foveated, which one have you installed? Seems like the Varjo Foveated is installed as you mention disabling OXRTK with it in place? Not sure what you mean by "The other WWII and Civ mod", but if you want to run OXRTK you must remove the Varjo Foveated and run the Quad-views foveated instead. As for the glasses, you may want to (very carefully) see if you can get the headset in place over your regular eyeglasses while you wait for your VR Optician script/lenses to see if that gets rid of any blurriness.. They fit over mine (2x readers) but were a PITA to get on/off, and I also had VROpt lenses for my G2 and now again for the Aero..
  18. May be an issue with DCS but it works flawlessly in BMS Falcon with my system, and it's fairly high end..
  19. Glad to hear it is resolved, Windows does get clogged with old registry entries and driver remnants, sometimes it's just best to clean house and start from scratch!
  20. If you need the ability to hear what's going on around you I really like my (open back) Sennheiser Drop+ PC38X headset. Comfortable (subjective), easily goes over the Aero even with the Creative Labs Apache headstrap installed, with excellent sound (subjective) and a very good foldaway microphone..
  21. Ahh, unfortunately it sounds like shipping to the US (from Varjo Finland) adds a lot of complications, customs, etc. Hope you get it soon!
  22. I'm hearing different things about the wait, depending on where you are and who you got it from. I bought direct from Varjo and had it 9 days after ordering, but I am in the EU..
  23. To be honest I have only used it in IL-2 since rebuilding my system, in there it works flawlessly, will try DCS soon.
