  1. I resorted to mapping a joystick button to padlock view. When in air to air mode it will lock the nearest enemy chopper. If you then press and hold the target lock button the Shkval will track to and lock onto your current padlocked target. Wait until they are tracking somewhat toward or away from you (so the missile has a chance of tracking the target) and then fire 2 missiles about 1 sec apart. I my experience this rarely fails. Good hunting :pilotfly:
  2. I have personally exerienced the collective rapidly move to the full up position and the full down position when not being held. With the latter I was flying dual doing low level cattle mustering when we both assumed the other had the collective - when it drops suddenly at 50 feet agl your heart rate tends to go up rather quickly  Ah yes, we are all perfect pilots with hindsight :smilewink: There have also been quite a few instances of pilotless helicpters becoming airborne when the the pilot neglected to apply the friction lock before exiting :joystick: As I said earlier, it all depends on how well balanced the rotors are, among other things.
  3. IRL it was common for us to hold the cyclic between our knees when you neded both hands or the right hand in particular. The collective would often stay put for a few moments depending on the particular machine and how well balanced the rotors were. It was also possible to hold the collective by pressing the side of your leg against it. Some have a friction nut as well. Most small civilian helicopters do not have trim that functions in any way like a small fixed wing aircaft such as the 172 :smilewink: In this sim I have my collective set up like the real thing but with enough friction so it won't fall under its own weight if I let go. That leaves me free to use the left hand for the keyboard and if I need to use the mouse I simply fly for lefthanded for the duration.
  4. You could use the Night Vision cockpit lighting....it's blue :music_whistling:
  5. The other way to do it, if you have to abandon a mission after you have started it, is to open Windows Task Manger and terminate Launcher.exe, then close the game down.
  6. This happens to me often enough, what with hardware issues and RL intervening. I just open the player.lua with Notepad++ and reset it. The next mission to fly will only have a 2 line entry (4 lines if you include the mission number entries), so I delete them and edit the last mission to have the same format. It's a good idea to backup the player.lua each time as a small typo can reneder the campaign defunct :joystick:
  7. I am wondering if your 'stuck' pedals problem is to do with trim and/or autopilot. Try reseting trim (LCrtl - T) and enabling Flight Director (LCtrl - A) to see if that fixes it. The / and * keys on the Numpad do your zooming. I also map the LWin - Numpad2 key to my controller so you get a good close view of the Shkval and Abris.
  8. Yep, back to good ol' basics - look at map, look out window and identify ground reference object. We call it IFR - I Follow Roads, Railwaylines, Rivers . . . :D
  9. Cool coz I'd love to see a few open Aussie servers with a ping below 400 :-)
  10. Yes it is very misleading that they call it Mission Success % in the mission and Mission Success Rate % in the campaign summary screen. It should really say Balance of Power and each mission should start at 50% and go up or down depening on the progression of the mission. The problem with this arises with Recon and SEAD missions where the neither the allies or the enemy are necessarily advancing - in this case the "score" will stay at 0% indefinately unless you do something. With Area Defence and Advance missions the scenario will unfold whether you do anything or not. This is a limitation of the way the campaign engine is designed. It has it's advantages and disadvantages - you just need to recognise the different types of missions and play them accordingly.
  11. Anyone tried both the Saitek and CH Pro pedals and care to share their opinion?
  12. That was quick - many thanks :D
  13. Can any owners of CH Pro Pedals tell me whether the pedals are reciprocal or not, ie; when one moves forward the other is forced to move back? TIA Jack :)
  14. Let me ask you one thing - can you confidently hover and land the helicopter without any of the autopilot channels enabled? I firmly believe that unless you can do this then you don't really know how to control the helicopter properly. Autopilot is a very useful and necessary function especially when targeting and you need to have your head down so often, but it shouldn't be used to disguise bad technique. From my real world experience of helicopter flying I would say that the most common cause of what you describe is over-controlling. It is a very common fault. Try this - when you are hovering, forget about trying to correct for what the helicopter is doing and concentrate on holding the controls absolutely still. Hey presto! It does very little when you do very little. It only requires very small inputs to keep it from drifting. Good luck! Jack :)
  15. When I send my wingman out on recon I have noticed that the last target he sees and advises me about, he then often fails to send to me via datalink. Anyone else noticed this? Or am I missing something here? TIA, Jack :joystick:
  16. It's the forward most button on the left side of the PVI panel. Look at page 2-59 - it's the one marked #4. FWIW, I use the Airfield mode (#6 on that page) for RTB to rearm quite a lot, and also of course Target point (#7). Jack
  17. Pressing 'R' on the keyboard will engage Route mode - if Autopilot is engaged then the helicopter will attempt to follow the currently selected waypiont in the PVI (and indicated by the double yellow marker on the ADF - see page 2-16). If you have turn-to-target engaged ('Q') it will override Route mode. Also, when you engage Flight Director the autopilot will be disengaged, except the control dampening aspect. I think Nav mode just refers to that particular selected mode in the ABRIS and PVI (R-Alt+Q). The FD cues may not be available in some PVI modes. Cheers, Jack :pilotfly: ps: I should add that I am by no means an expert on this stuff - I only know what I use and what works for me. Others may give better information :joystick:
  18. If you use the Uncage/Designate Target button (o) without the HMS it will initially turn on the Shkval camera and thereafter start/stop the side scanning. With the HMS on, it will move the Shkval to align with the HMS. It is then necessary to hit the Lock Target button once to range-find and stop the Shkval from free ranging. You also hold down the Target Lock button to temporarily disengae a locked target if you wish to move the Shkval.
  19. This certainly makes a difference to the way you approach a mission. However, when you view the score during a mission it actually says 'X% Mission Complete' hence the reason some of us came to see it as player progress. It occurs to me that it would be better if it said something like 'Balance of Power x%' the value of which could be negative or postive. Just an idea ... :joystick:
  20. I understand this, but would not this suggest it is possible to acheive a result greater than 100%? This I have never seen? OK, now we are getting somewhere! That makes far more sense to me. Thank you sir :)
  21. My experience differs I'm afraid. I hasten to add here that I don't want my comments to be seen as gratuitous criticism. Quite to the contrary, I am in total awe of all the people that put this amazing sim together. Jack out :pilotfly:
