In-Game Scratchpad Mod Available - Works Great In VR!
AcroGimp replied to Fubarbrickdust's topic in Virtual Reality
I can get this to show up in 2D but will not appear in VR - OpenBeta, Oculus Rift, i7 8700K, 32GB, GTX 1070Ti - ideas? DISCO -
Started today, no new drivers or updates beyond 2 or 3 new Windows anti-virus definitions, no changes in settings. VR image is spinning uncontrollably once the headeset is moved OR if you place hand near the head sensor, no ability to center or stop movement. Tried a Clean and then Repair, no change in behavior, did a complete uninstall and reinstall with no mods enabled, no change in behavior - still spinning uncontrollably once you move the HMD or put a heat source in front of the head sensor. Tried turning water to low, no change in behavior, still spinning uncontrollably. Was fine yesterday except for a very occasional strobing between left and right eye that began with latest update 2.5.4.25729. This is suddenly unusable, hope there is a hotfix coming.

NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod
AcroGimp replied to Merker's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Jacks you need to log in to the Scooter, let it fully spawn, then back out to Spectator or another aircraft, and once that spawns in you can go back to the Scooter and the click spots will be in the right locations. DISCO, CO vVMA-131 Diamondbacks, vCSG-1 -
TutorialDemonstration, flying a Case III INS CV-1 Approach - this is the TACAN CV-1 flown to an INS waypoint vs TACAN station. Ceiling 1,600', tops 8,500', visibility 4 in rain and fog, 20 minutes after sunset. I started by plotting the course of the Carrier (traveling 12 knots), and getting predicted LatLon every 15 minutes for 1:15 mission and threw that into the kneeboard. Once started up I entered the waypoint I expected to be nearest for a 1 or 2 turn hold, departed Al Dhafra in hard IMC, joined my course, got to my hold point, flew a single turn in the hold, then did a penetration from 15,000 to 1,200, was right on course and flew the approach on NVG's in the near dark. It was not late enough timewise for the Carrier Landing Zone lights to be on so I was NVG the whole way (bad form). This is a repeatable method and will work with a known set of location vs time hacks, or with live controllers to set the IAF and provide boat BRC and speed. Have to say, I really enjoy flying the Scooter in the dark and in bad weather, it is truly immersive and demonstrates how feature complete and functional the nav system in particular is, I also rely heavily on AFCS for task shedding and truly enjoy the lighting which is spectacular. Limit of non-SDK aircraft, you can only refuel with engine on (canopy open), re-arm requires you shut the engine down, don't do it on a carrier because you cannot start on a moving carrier currently. DISCO, CO vVMA-131 Diamondbacks, vCSG-1 -

The TACAN can only detect non-moving, static stations (ground) due to an SDK limitation, so you have to use the INS to get close to the Boat and then find it visually, like real life. One way is to plot the course of the Boat and predict LatLon every 12-18 minutes and just have a reference table of location vs time hacks. If it is X time the Boat is a t Y coordinates, this is how they would have done it IRL. Helps if you set the Boat to cruise at speeds that are easily divisable by 6 or 10, so 12, 18 or 20 knots - makes the math for Boat position easy (Boat is moving 1 nm every 5 minutes at 12 Knts) - then fly the approach at INS ground speeds that are easily divisable by 5 or 6 (240 and 300 kts) to make the math in-cockpit easy (example: plane is covering 4 nm per minutes over the groundsea at 240 on the INS groundspeed, 5nmMinute at 300). It is very rare the Boat is just cruising around with TACAN on since it gives away the position of the Boat. So instead of TACAN, you set an INS waypoint at a location that is equivalent to the Case III hold point from a known location of the Boat, and fly the Case III tofrom that point - I will be posting a video demonstrating this later today. The navigation methods echniques though will be the same as my TACAN Non Precision Approach video With this method you can actually fly non-precision Case III approaches, including holds, in low visibility conditions, like real life. Who we are: VMA-131 Diamondbacks is a virtual Marine Attack Squadron flying the excellent DCS Community A-4E-C Skyhawk Mod, or as she is better known, The Scooter, or Heinemann's Hotrod. A small but potent attacker, The Scooter is an iconic strike aircraft that saw 40 years of service in the US Navy and USMC and is still in use today by military and para-military air forces around the world. The Diamondbacks are attached to Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 (CSG-1), a committed group of MilSim enthusiasts over 90 strong organized into 8 dedicated Fighter, Attack and Strike squadrons including a medium lift rotary wing support squadron and a dedicated Controller group operating on our own multiplayer server. We are replicating Ashore and Afloat operations in the early-mid 90's timeframe using the Persian Gulf and NTTR maps. VMA-131 was officially stood up December 10, 2018 in recognition of the excellent capabilities of the Community A-4E-C and to add to our existing and expansive Naval Aviation operations that include F\A-18C (VMFA-122 Crusaders, VMA-25 Fist of the Fleet), soon to be joined on deck by the F-14B (our old-school brothers of the 'stache in VF-2 Bounty Hunters and VF-111 Sundowners, currently operating F\A-18C) embarked aboard CVN-74 USS John C. Stennis (alternately Al Dhafra Air Base and bases in NTTR), as well as AV-8B (VMA-231 Ace of Spades), and UH-1H (HMLA-167 Warriors) embarked aboard LHA-1 USS Tarawa. We are supported by MACS-2, "The Eyes of the MAGTF" who provide outstanding live CATCC\ATC as well as JTAC and AWACS services. Squadron Environment: As CO, DISCO leads the "Rattlers" as the High Arch-Bishop of Scooter-farianism, the one pure faith that recognizes the aerodynamic genius of his holiness the Heinemann and in praise of the Hotrod he has gifted us. Beyond a CO and eventually an XO and Ops Officer there is not likely to be too much structure within VMA-131. CSG-1 does not recognize or issue in-Sim rank although the group includes a large number of current and former Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors as well as active civilian pilots. Specifically for the Diamondbacks, our focus is on fun but procedure oriented MilSim in DCS World, utilizing the full capabilities of the mighty Scooter. The Community A-4E-C Dev Team built a truly amazing free Mod that already rivals many paid-for Modules and we intend to further flesh that out, over time, with additional submods and workarounds to, eventually, faithfully replicate the ultimate version of the Scooter employed by the Marine Corps, the highly capable A-4M Skyhawk II. While we recognize the Community A-4E-C is a free mod we do not coddle her and as Johnny said in Dirty Dancing, 'nobody puts Baby in the corner'. The Scooter was an icon of naval strike aviation with such a fine balance of performance and handling it was the choice mount of the United States Navy Aerial Demonstration Squadron for 13 years (that is the Blue Angels for you heathens out there) and it saw service as a preferred adversary aircraft for training front line Marine Corps and Naval Aviators until fairly recently. Although just standing up and currently operating in a Fleet Replacement Squadron\Replacement Air Group fashion as we develop the specific training for our up-and-coming Scooter Drivers (also introducing them to CSG-1 Standard Operating Procedures), the Diamondbacks and the Scooter will be the go-to resource when infrastructure positively, absolutely has to be blown the F' up, day or night, in any weather - Armed Recon, Close Air Support and Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD), the "Rattlers" and their Scooters will be ready. Our jets feature an outstanding custom skin from PorcoRosso. Tactical LowVis Grey Line Scheme HiVis CAG How we train and fly: The first word in Carrier Strike Group One tells you all you need to know - we focus on Carrier aviation. During campaigns essentially all of our operations will begin and end at 'the Boat’ although out of necessity we may operate Ashore here and there. We have official training flights on our private multiplayer server hosted TrainingMap on Tuesday and Sunday nights at 2030 Eastern but Group pilots are typically on our Discord (Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1) daily and pick-up flights on our normal FunMap are a very common occurrence. The rule is train as you would fight and we take that to heart. We are developing an FRS\RAG style Scooter Syllabus that can take a true nugget (new to DCS) to 3rd Degree Master Scooter-farian with all the skills necessary to spread Freedom one explosive little bit at a time, anywhere, anytime, day or night and in any weather - we're like Santa Claus, if Santa was a Mad-Monk Scooter-farian Marine flying a bad-ass little strike jet and instead of giving presents he was dropping chaff and flares, pickling ordnance and calling 'Magnum'. Naturally at this point you are saying to yourself, "Self, how do I get me some of this awesome flying action"? Well fear not, just ask yourself the following questions: Do you reject 'put the thing on the thing' easy mode, preferring instead to center punch your target or accidentally bomb the orphanage due to your own skill like a real man? Do you turn your nose up at all the 'network-centric' this and 'data-link' that, recognizing intrinsicly that this is exactly how Skynet was started, making John Connor our only hope to escape the domination of our Terminator overlords? Do you like the thought of BEING the Navigation System, Lead Computing Gunsight, and Continuously Calculated Impact Point Ballistics Computer all while navigating by ground attack radar, INS, landmarks, a map and a stopwatch - literally sneaking around in the bad guy's backyard? Do you drop Gear, Flaps, Boards and Hook and hand fly your jet to the glory of an OK 3-wire or the shame of a twisted burning ball of steel and aluminum in the potato locker? In short, are you some kind of Pudknocker wannabe or are you an Aviator, a steely-eyed and moustachioed man of action? Do you have what it takes to join this august body of virtual Marine Corps Aviators in the rarified air at 50 feet and the speed of heat driving the baddest little mother in the Valley? NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod

Cold starts on the Boat are reportedly possible if the Boat is not moving - I have not personally tried this but have seen video of cold start from the Boat. If the Huffer cart can be linked to the Carrier like other static objects this might be possible with the Carrier on the move but the workaround is to know your desired loadout prior to mission start and include it via the Mission Editor. Oldpop, the TACAN is currently operating like an NDB with DME, the BDHI points to the station but no radial\course select, yet, and yes, terrestrial TACAN only so far, no A\A and no Boat. No ICLS either as far as I have found. The INS works pretty well though as a pure INS or as an INS following Mission Editor waypoints if you define them. It's a remarkably functional jet as-is, but sure hope these are not permanent issues due to the Scooter being a Mod (no SDK), still Merker and the team have done a phenomenal job - I flew a CASE II recovery last night in formation with a couple Hornets and will try a CASE III soon, even with the limited Nav gear. A4E carrier lighting control using ATC?
AcroGimp replied to Harley Davidson's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
The Ball on the Stennis is optimized for the Hornet, Scooter seems to indicate low, if you fly the Ball you miss the landing zone\wires. And I might have been below even normal A-4E-C glideslope for part of that - was my first night trap in the Hotrod. DISCO | CO, vVMA-131 Diamonadbacks, vCSG-1 -
A4E carrier lighting control using ATC?
AcroGimp replied to Harley Davidson's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
As Tirak says, the radio is INOP within DCS, although Cribob has given a nice workaround with SRS for squadron comm's. We have verified that the Carrier will turn the lights on if you fly the CVN pattern AND it is full dark, also TaccaFrenchy's NVG Mod works well although the Scooter cockpit is not NVG optimized, you will want to turn the lighting way down, recommend NVG's for approach to the CV pattern, NVG's off once in the groove. Verified during testing today, the Scooter's AN/APG-53A Ground Attack Radar can detect CVN size targets at nearly 30nm. It is VERY sensitive to radar elevation and will be fleeting but the Scooter Ground Attack Radar does in fact see CVN size ships and from almost 30nm away. First shot is map overview showing strike group related to a known terrain feature that I have previously detected with the Ground Attack radar. 2nd shot is Radar Elevation 6 degrees dish down, only terrain targets detected. 3rd shot is 5 degrees dish down, terrain AND Strike Group targets detected. All shots were active pause on, at Angels 15, range 27.5nm - bottom line is it can work but will be best from a stable platform (e.g., AFCS with Path and ALT HOLD Modes engaged). Verified similar results at Angels 6 and 23nm using 4 degrees dish down. Suspect possible at longer ranges but not yet verified. This is truly an impressive bit of coding and yet another reason this Mod is just beginning a brilliant career as a capable naval strike aircraft. At speed you will need to manually change dish elevation regularly to maintain contact and would want to switch to short range at some point but so long as you let the plane do the flying I don't see why we can't get to where we can reliably use this - that is simply jaw dropping to me. CAS Essentials - Flying the Keyhole Hold in the Scooter Set point Echo (target) into the INS as a waypoint (D1 or D2), navigate to your desireddirected hold (Charlie-Delta 15 in this example), enter the racetrack, turn initial as desireddirected. Utilize Path, CSS, HDG SEL and ALT HLD modes of the autopilot for task shedding. Not bad for a first attempt. DISCO, CO vVMA-131 Diamondbacks, vCSG-1
