Callsign Review Board- Who’s Already Screwed Up?
Tiger-II replied to Kalasnkova74's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Something is funky for sure. 3 units is far too much trim. -
Hi, Ran out of fuel earlier (deliberate...honest!). Engines shutdown (fine), and appeared to be windmilling around 60% or so, yet lost engine gens and hydraulics almost immediately. Aircraft nosed-down, and only when passing around 18000 ft, something happened and the gens and hydraulics restored (again, simultaneously). For a moment I could control the jet, but then speed decayed, and I lost everything again. Aircraft crashed. Everything I've read says the F-4 can glide and remain controllable. If this is a legit bug, I'll put it in the bug section.

The elevator trim (using buttons) is very aggressive. The stick position jumps and the aircraft reacts accordingly. Very hard to trim smoothly.

Hard to see console controls (brightness/contrast)
Tiger-II replied to Deyth's topic in Bugs & Problems
When the sun shines directly on the main panel, black becomes light gray, and everything else becomes nearly white. It's completely washed out and not only unusable but completely wrong. -
Is it me, or are people failing to fully read and comprehend what people have written? 1) The stab appears to be wrong for any phase of flight 2) The CoG/weight/speed does NOT change the trim condition of the aircraft in the sim. Did I miss anything?

How will my rig hold up in VR with this beast?
Tiger-II replied to Digitalvole's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
I have a lowly 4070 Ti Super running DCS at 4K and get 150 FPS, so VR I would expect to get ~70 FPS. -
Degraded INS-alignment/See INS align. progress?
Tiger-II replied to NightstalkerNOR's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
This is version 0.1 of INS, so only a couple of lights, and be thankful they tell you anything. The start-up process for the INS is OFF - > STBY, wait for HEAT light, then STBY -> ALIGN and wait for green light to start blinking, then select NAV. From my testing, using "stored alignment" mode in the mission editor, it takes about 2.5 minutes for the INS to align. Note also that I disabled Jester prior to powering anything. -
Yes.

Took her up a couple of time this evening, and reached Mach 2.1 this time. That's more like it! Now to figure out why I have no display in the front cockpit.
-
This hit me in the face, too. Not how EGT behaves during engine start. The engine start sound is just the idle sound at lower frequency. Turbines do not sound this way during start-up!

With gear up, yes. Gear down, you will get flaps as well below 212 kts.

For me it is already mapped. Looking at the binds (if you need to assign it), you assign the following: * FLAP SWITCH UP - "Norm/Out (3-way down)" * FLAP SWITCH DOWN - "Out&Down/Out (3-way up)" They seem to have "3-way up" and "3-way down" labels backwards! This is how it is mapped here, and works as expected.

Hi, Yes, requested external power, and it was connected. Reading the manual, it seems the systems should be able to be powered via the start cart? It talks about performing an INS alignment while on GPU, and tripping the power during source switching. It makes no mention whatsoever that an engine must be running.

A descending acceleration may not be an OPTIMUM profile in either time or distance, but it should still assist. I know there are optimum profiles for specific airframes, but given I can fly until I'm out of fuel, I'm not too worried, unless the F-4 specifically has a drag profile such that top speed is NOT attainable WITHOUT flying a specific profile. There are several aircraft with that characteristic. I started at 45000 ft, just below Mach 1.0, and descended between 5 and 10 degrees nose-down towards 35000 ft. Again, the aircraft was clean, and while I know I started with 12000 lbs fuel, I don't know what the fuel state was at the time, but given I had flown at max AB at low altitude for a good 5 minutes prior, it should have burned off a bit. Call me a "slow learner", but while some people are already bombing stuff, I'm still learning procedures and cockpit layout, but I'll be sure to know where the fuel quantity indicator is this flight. I'm going to try this again on a different map with standard atmosphere. Vegas should also be standard atmosphere, but it eliminates a possible variable/bug due to map elevation.

Hit the cooling air reset button by the caution panel after start. I'll try a different map.
-
I was kidding a little with "slow". For attention. I took her up clean to 45000 ft, then did a slowly descending acceleration. Seemed to take a moment to break Mach 1.0, then eventually made Mach 1.4 but it didn't seem to want to go much faster. Tried a level accel at Vegas, and barely broke 600 kts after several minutes. Checked everything was retracted. Performed zoom climb (AWESOME), then vertical dive from 50000 ft. Best I could get was Mach 1.8 before needing to pull up. Controls checked and engines producing max thrust.

I guess when the paintkit comes out?

I second this!

Hi, The manual is lacking here, quite severely. After spending an hour trying to figure out why the cockpit was dark, it seems the only thing that works on GPU are a couple of instruments in the front cockpit? I followed the checklist, operating the ground instrument power switch in the rear cockpit, but absolutely nothing will come alive. I can't align the INS, test lamps, etc. Radios/intercom starts to work with GPU and I can talk to the Crew Chief and Jester, and start the engines, but that's about all that works. Did I miss something, or is there a problem? It seems the aircraft should be operable on the ground in this state. Yes, I set BOTH eng gen switches to EXTERNAL.
-
Hi, Flying a clean jet, having never taken it out of AB from takeoff, I could only achieve Mach 1.8 in a steep dive. Pretty sure she was faster than that? Same problem with the Phantom as I see with the F-5 - will not go supersonic in level flight at sea level. Seems this is a DCS problem rather than a specific aircraft? F-4 should be able to accelerate faster than Mach 1.0 in level flight. I didn't get to land...extended the flaps and suffered an immediate and hard pitch-over that was unrecoverable. 1000000000 / 10. Would die again.

I set the AB at 90 and deadzone to 3. WH throttle here. Works great!

Interesting. They said it didn't make any network connections. In the EU, that is a major violation.

DCS F-4E Phantom II Release Date Announcement- May 21st 2024
Tiger-II replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
May 21st in which timezone? As it is already May 22nd in parts of the world, I guess it didn't launch today.
