  1. I agree. I have a Virpil T50cm2 grip with the flip trigger. This works great in the Mig15 as the trigger safety toggle, but in the Viggen I had to bind a second button (flip trigger down press button) to close (SAFE) the trigger safety. Having the single binding toggle option would be good.
  2. Thanks Ironhand and Draconus. I understand the importance of "safe and proper" but I have always learned best from my mistakes and learning my limits. If I can master landing the Mig29 at the edge then doing it properly with gentle approach and correct speed becomes super easy and second nature for me. It's just how I learn things best. And since this is a simulator I can push the limits, make mistakes, crash and die without worries.
  3. thanks shishkin, it felt like 300kph was right on the edge so this makes sense. which docs did you find it in? It wasn't in the DCS Mig29 manual
  4. I'm really enjoying the Mig29 right now and I'm loving the Instant Action "mig29a final approach" where you land at Sochi-Adler in clouds, rain and wind. It's a pretty fast descent through the clouds and easy to gain speed which you then have to burn off. There are so many ways to tweak the approach: follow the navigation and slowly descend through the clouds; drop through the clouds quickly, level off, bleed speed then continue approach; bleed speed too much and then have to recover; come in hot and have to finesse at the very end. I'm learning so much about finessing a landing with the mig29 and practicing how to deal with adverse or emergency landing scenarios. But I'm still having a little difficultly figuring out what is the maximum speed when the drag chute will rip off. I've had several times where the chute rips off and my brakes don't slow me down enough and I roll off the end of the runway. My guess is it is somewhere between 300kph and 350kph. I'm fairly certain when I try the chute over 350kph it rips off but I haven't saved those tracks. One "gentle" track I landed at 310kph and popped the chute at 280kph and everything was ok. Another landing track I am coming in a bit hot, crossed the threshold at 380kph and landed around 340kph. I applied brakes and and waited until 300kph to deploy the chute and it also worked. There is nothing in the manual and I haven't found anything in my searches so far. Has anyone else tried to figure out the absolute maximum speed where the mig29 chute does not rip off? I'll keep trying to push the edge.
  5. YES thank you. that was it. After you said that I remember reading somewhere how they were planning to implement this. Also appears that it is defaulting to 2016 for me.I just saw now that my screen shots in OpenBeta say "Airplane Group - 2016". I went into weather/time and set to 1974 and tada GDR Mig15, Mig21. set to 1988 and GDR Mig21, Mig29g. thank you Paganus
  6. I'm afraid I'm making a noob mistake, but the OpenBeta Mission Editor is missing countries and planes that work ok with the main/public release Mission Editor. for example USSR: if I add to the red side, it does not appear in the country pull down (but OK in public ME). same with GDR. I add GDR into the red side for a new mission but it is not in the country pulldown. Also I own Mig21bis, but when I select Russia I don't see Mig21bis in the pull down (ok in public ME). But the Mig21bis is available for Cuba and NorthKorea. here is the public/stable MissionEditor and I can add a GDR Mig21bis here is my OpenBeta, I add GDR and USSR to the red side for a new mission. missing GDR and USSR from country pulldown and Russia does not have the Mig21Bis but cuba has Mig21bis also my Mig15bis is missing from Russian plane list too. Is this a bug? a problem with my install? or some noob mistake I am making cheers Jess
  7. Even though this guide is 2years old, it worked perfectly on my setup (RX580 1440p). So many guides have you turn down the preload visibility or tree visibility or clutter/grass which do work but never really look that good. I'm amazed that basically turning down the shadows, and turning off MSAA allows me to almost max out everything else. I'm using his exact settings but using Shadows Low and I've turned up Civ Traffic to Low and Lens Flare on. That is working so well.
  8. I did water cooling for my CPU about 2years ago and I'm very happy with the results. It dropped my temps to only about 5-15C above ambient (30-45C) so it never gets close to thermal max. And even in our very hot (>33C) summers I don't think I've ever seen it get about 50C. And it is SO quiet! The main reason I did it was for quiet and stability in our hot summers. I'm only doing a mild overclock, but that has more to do with my CPU which just doesn't want to overclock no matter what I tried. I'd say to do water if you want quiet and stable first and if you can get some extra overclock then that is an extra bonus. I actually went for a custom loop with a 360mm radiator (Alphacool NexXxoS UT60) because I eventually wanted to put a water cooler on my GPU but I still have not done it. But I think for my next GPU upgrade I will buy one with a water block. If you go for an all-in-one I know the corsair H100 or H115 are very well respected. I would recommend getting as large a radiator as you can fit since it will create a more stable temperature. I'm not sure I can recommend the single-fan radiators. You should probably go for at least a 2fan (240mm) radiator. I don't want to tempt you into a custom water cooling loop (it was a lot of research and effort), but if you are curious I can let you know what I did.
  9. thanks Rudel and QuiGon, I'm all set now I've downloaded both of your versions (RC1, RC2) just to be safe. Does the Viggen go on sale every now and then? I think I just missed a sale a little while back.
  10. thanks Rudel! I will check out the video series. unfortunately MSdrive says I can't access the file. do you need to share with my email or make it public?
  11. I'm considering to buy the AJS37 Viggen module, but I've learned in the past that I need to read the manual to really get to grips with a high fidelity plane. I found an early "beta" manual with a google search but not the manual that comes with the download. Could HeatBlur please put a link to the official/final manual on their website for potential buyers? (or could someone share the official/final manual with me)
  12. I think I got my landings with the SU-25T now. Been able to do touch and go, come back around and then land without any drama or popped tires. The Robert Sogomonian videos are excellent and I've learned a lot. I still need to finish the series, but I definitely will. zhukov032186 suggestion about practicing touch-and-goes was excellent too. And Headwarp thanks for the suggestion on doing "axis tune" on my rudder/wheel control. I've set it to 25 and it's working much better. I think in the end it was a mixture of things from my rudder/wheel control to needing to pulsing my brake button (since I don't have a brake axis lever), and general lack of finesse with my landings. I'm going to keep practicing and working through both the built in and Sogomonian tutorials. I want to eventually be able to work up to doing carrier landings with the SU-33 and doing touch and goes from a carrier :) thanks everyone
  13. Thanks everyone. I'm getting a little better, but still practicing. I think I'll make a custom campaign so that I don't have to listen to the talking every time. I also feel that this is a great simulator so I should learn basic flight on it. I will definitely start trying the touch and go practice. I may have discovered part of the tire popping though. I have my rudder assigned to my T16k hotas paddle and it's a little sensitive. Very easy to over apply. I think I simetimes over apply when I'm drifting to the side after touch down which might put the tire side ways and pop it. Ithink I'm getting closer to nailing this.
  14. Thanks guys. Nephilim. Yeah I may be doing too much flare. I will try to do less flaring and try to hold the nose up until my speed drops. Good to know that the SU25T is a difficult plane to learn on, I won't let it discourage me. mondaysoff, I heard about those videos but have not watched them yet. I thought maybe they were for people who already knew how to fly other planes in DCS. I will go through them.
  15. Hi I'm working my way through the su-25t tutorials and I'm starting to hit some beginner difficulties. I thought I would just make a new thread where I could ask multiple questions as they come up. I last flew a flightsim back in the 90s and have been training on DCS for a few weeks now. I have a TM T16k stick and hotas which I like a lot. I've picked up a few modules with the sale (FC3, MIG21), but since I'm struggling with the SU-25T I thought I should just focus on it for awhile until I have improved my basic flight skills. First in the easy landing tutorial, I keep popping my front tire. I'm getting quite good at small adjustments, staying on glide slope, matching decent speed and what feels like setting it down very gently. I don't bounce, I'm going straight, pop the chute, apply brakes, come to stop and it feels good. But then I go to taxi to the hanger or get an outside view and many times my front tire is popped. What am I doing wrong? Is it the keyboard W brake? or maybe I'm dropping my nose too hard after getting the rear wheels down? I'm also having trouble with the CCIP unguided bomb tutorial. I always seem to overshoot the target if I keep to ~50deg down slope, but if I dive more steep, I can sometimes hit the target but usually followed by crashing into the ground. Any advise? I'll probably have more questions as I go. Thanks for any advise.
