  1. The problem you describe happens to me in BS and in LOMAC as well. Using Nvidia 8800 GT
  2. Actually playing with the configuration files to achieve a reasonable FPS in a relatively "calm" environment is not that that hard. You may get frame rate around the 40's quiet easily. (I do with a E2180@3000, 2Gb ram, GT8800) BUT, the sim does not scale very well when it comes to a large number of object interacting with each other. Try to fly a mission like "Battle.miz" which simulate a missive battle with few tens of objects, and I suspect it will bring the best piece hardware to it's knees. So, as long as you fly missions with a relatively small scope, you'll be fine. If you are looking forward brigade-scale engagement, I guess you'll have to wait for a graphic engine upgrade and code optimizations. I heard people talking about it, but I have no clue if and when it is going to happen.
  3. Thanks mate. Indeed it seems like the sim those not scale very well when things get hot around. Please update with this mission FPS when you get into the ~4 range :)
  4. Thanks! Mission attached :music_whistling:. Could you give it a try? I am interested in checking at the following spec: textures: High scenes: med civ traffic: no water: med visib range: med heat blur: off shadows: all planar resolution: 1280x1024 aspect: 5:4 monitors: 1camera res.of cockpit displays: 512 If you can, please try to pay attention to the avg frames you get right at the start, and then get in closer, and see what happens when the artillery shells falls nearby. On my rig, the mission becomes unplayable at this point as the FPS goes down to 10s. Battle.miz
  5. Thanks crazysundog The OC's boards report nice overclocking results with this CPU. However, it is really interesting to now how do the MHz's translate into "realworld" FPS... Looking forward your impressions from the Battle.miz mission :-) Have fun!
  6. Hi Folks Lets take a mission such as "Battle.miz" as a reference. Why this one? because this mission is rather loaded with objects and ground activity, resembling a real scenario you might encounter as a real attack heli pilot during a small-scale war. Sure, it's fun to hunt a 8 truck convoy protected by 2 SAM units, but IMHO, those kind of missions are too sterile, and not interesting enough. So you got the idea, I am looking for a system who can handle this sim in battles consisting of tens of objects, just like I can in IL-2 now for example. As a reference, on my rig, (E2180@3200, GT8800, 2Gb ram) on low setting, 1024x768 resolution, the frame rate goes down to 10fps in this mission when the Artillery starts rocking. This makes the mission virtually unplayable. the average when starting the mission is 20-25fps. I wonder if the E8500 CPU (which might by safely OCed to 4200) can handle such a mission "properly"... My very subjective "properly", means the very min frame rate > 20fps, avg frame rate >30fps at medium setting, High scenery, 1280x1024. If that's the case I would seruisly consider getting one of those CPUs Thanks ahead David
  7. You got me  I give up. Yes, I am aware of the Erdogan project. But we are talking about the KA-50 aren't we :shifty: ??? Actually I have some friends working there (on other projects), but they are all signed on NDAs ya' know. Convincing Matt giving us this enhanced PDF is a joke compared to trying to extract some real flight manuals from those guys...
  8. Interesting post :-) and... I do not have connections (no KA-50s in the Israeli service anyway). I think the current Manual is really scratching the surface as long as deep understanding of the aircraft is concerned. I hope further improvements in the documentation will allow us to unleash the full potential of this study sim.
  9. WHAT? Sorry, that's does not make any sense to me. It's OK to expect customers to pay more for the added value of a printed manual, but its not OK, to prevent those additions from the rest of the customers which choose to make do with the pdf version. As a customer I would definitely expect to have those additions with no extra charge once they are available, just like I expected to "get for free" patches and manual errata. I am sure ED will support it's customers and will not try to force us to spend more in order to get those manual additions.
  10. "large Red handles" LOL... Yes, it's a great relief you can always dump it and start from scratch... But I find flying in non-vanilla conditions a real challenge, and great fun. Besides, think about the diversity of mission opportunities which opens up (give you some challenge to cope with and then bring on the bad guys...) IronHand's work is great, but every 3rd party contribution be it as good as it might be, should be taken as a bonus, and not substitution for a formal documentation.
  11. Cheers guys, great work  From my short experience in the IAF I have learned that the very basic flight-school trainings put a strong emphasize on dealing with emergencies. Rigorous studying of a very detailed emergency procedures checklists and extensive training on emergencies are not only the bread and butter of every trainee when studying a new aircraft, but consumes also significant share of the training schedule of experienced pilots. However, I have not seen any reference for handling emergencies in the user manual, nor in the training mission. Knowing how to fly from A to B, being able to launch missiles, and to use correctly the navigation and avionics systems in a sandbox environment is one thing. However, coping with situations such as "left engine fire", RTB with damaged engines or other kinds of critical damage, escaping from vortex ring effect etc., requires a completely different kind of knowledge and skills. Knowing how to deal with the numerous problems that "real life" might throw into your face, must becomes a second nature for a warrior flying a 50M$ machine. IMHO a simulator with such strong emphasize on realism, should not neglect those aspects. Wouldn't it be great if those aspects can be enhanced by providing few more chapters, checklist and training mission? Cheers David
