  1. Again, that you all for the great responses. Need to get through the end of the semester and then I have some more free time.
  2. I realize that this question is more individual taste but figured I would ask. Blackshark versus A10 which would be easier to learn HOTAS, VoiceThread, etc. in VR? Blackshark has the advantage that as a helicopter, I have more time to fumble and learn the controls if I am flying very slow and not loo low but at the same time my understanding is that learning to fly a helicopter is much harder than flying a typical plane. While the A10 is rugged, it doesn't skip off the land too well.
  3. Thank you for all the responses. They are greatly appreciated. I will definitely look at the items mentioned. The kneepad looks especially useful. If I focus on just the HOTAS, I realize that I need to gain experience with the button locations and over time, will start to build muscle memory. My issue has been while wearing the Quest 2, I can't see the HOTAS so am fumbling to find the right button and that is not helping to build any sort of memory. In particular, the HOTAS and Voice Attack both greatly reduce and even eliminate the need to use the keyboard but add their own set of complexity. My flight preference is more air to ground so prefer the A10 and Blackshark. Can't wait to crash the Apache when it comes out. I had LongBow and Apache vs Havoc a long time ago. I will need to check out Bailey's Voice Attack profiles. I wish there were HCS voicepacks for DCS. If not familiar with HCS, check out HCS Voicepacks but these are mostly for Science Fiction games like Elite Dangerous.
  4. Anyone come across a method to bring the "real world" into the VR headset while playing other than trying to look down through the bottom of the headset? Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the responses so far. I am old enough to have the ability to throw a little more money at the issue and old enough to have a problem trying to memorize and find all the buttons on my joystick. My plane and copters are all clickable but as some others have said, if I have to find the button on the cockpit and click with the mouse then I will be crashing even more than now.
  6. I have what may be a different question in playing DCS with VR. The question is more VR related than DCS related. I have a variety of DCS modules, I have a good computer, I have a Thrustmaster T1600 and throttle, I have Voice Attack, and I have a Quest 2 using Side Quest so wireless VR. How do I learn to use DCS while also using VR? With my Quest 2 on, I can not see my physical keyboard or my Thrustmaster. While I can use Voice Attack, there are so many commands that I refer to my printed cheat sheet. So how do I put all the pieces together? Do I learn to fly DCS in 2D until I am very comfortable with the controls (Thrustmaster, Keyboard, Voice Command) before adding in VR? Is there a way while in Quest 2 to see the keyboard, Thrustmaster, etc. inside of the Quest 2 as I learn and crash a lot? (I know how to double-tap the Quest to see the “real world” but that appears to work only while I am not running a VR game.) Another approach that I am not even realizing? How do folks with VR juggle all the pieces? What have folks found to help or hinder? Any tips are welcome. My question applies to other VR games such as Elite Dangerous, Evochron, etc. Thanks.
  7. Thanks. To be honest, I have the X52 Pro and thus was confused when the T1600 and Throttle were being treated as separate devices. I guess I need to dig into the Target software.
  8. I just got a Thrustmaster T1600 joystick and throttle. Running Windows 10. Each device plugs in via its own USB cable. An issue I am having is that the game allows me to select one or the other but not both at the same time as controllers. I did install the Thrustmaster drivers as well as the Target software. Is there any software that makes it appear that the two devices are the same device, with more axes (e.g., throttle can be used with the joystick) so I can program the devices within the game or do I have to program my devices within the Target software rather than the games configuration screen?
  9. Thank you for all the help. I greatly appreciate it. So down the road, is 1.x going to disappear and be merged into 2.x so only 1 install of DCS is needed? This is not a burning question, more idle curiosity.
  10. Thank you very much for the responses. If it matters, I also have a Vive VR system as it automatically went into VR when I started DCS 2.0 and flew the Black Shark. That was amazing. Is VR also in DCS 1.5? Related question, is there a way to start DCS in non-VR mode as I need to get my joystick set back up and that is not possible when in VR mode. I wish the VIVE had a way to display "reality" through the head set so I could see my controller and keyboard to make needed changes and then go back into VR instead of taking my head set off to see anything. :)
  11. Apologize if this has been asked before but not seeing it after some searches. I am getting back into DCS after a while. I have the latest version of DCS 2.0 installed along with the Nevada map and various aircraft. Is there any reason to also install DCS 1.5 also? I know I can install both versions but why would I want to? At one point, I remember that the training missions were only available in 1.5; has that changed? Is that the only reason to install 1.5? Thanks for any help getting me flying again.
  12. I also have Voice Attack. Would you be willing to share your Voice Attack profile? Do you have any Voice Attack profiles for other aspects of DCS such as the KA-50. I am just getting back into DCS and need to set up my Saitek X52 along with Voice Attack. Thanks.
  13. Never mind, I am an idiot. I was looking for DCS under "saved games" in "My Document" folder instead of looking for "saved games" under my username root directory. I found the DCS folder under the root directory folder and deleted it and now everything runs fine. Thanks for your help and sorry to waste your time. I have installed and uninstalled DCS World 1.5 and 2.0 multiple times in the last 24 hours trying to solve the problem as well as using IObit Uninstall to remove all traces (or so I thought). I didn't realize that I had a "saved games" folder under my root username.
  14. Attached is a copy of my DxDiag.txt file. There does not appear to be an issue. Famous last words. :) DxDiag.txt
  15. Once I posted my response, I saw your signature about posting log files (insert face palm on my part here). However, since I do not have a Saved Games folder, I do not have any logs.
  16. Assuming the Saved games folder is located in the "My Document" folder under "Saved Games", there is nothing there. Also there is nothing for Eagle Dynamics under "My Games" in "My Document" folder. Where would I find the Log folder you are talking about. Looking at my DCS World 1.5 folder, I am not seeing any log folders. I have attached the autoupdate_log.txt in case that might help. I have DCS World 1.5 installed but with no aircraft other than the SU-25T and TF-51D. I haven't go far enough to enter the activation information for A-10C, KA 50 and SA342. autoupdate_log.zip
  17. In addition to DCS World 1.5, I also had 2.0 installed separately. That is working fine but none of the training videos are working in 2.0. I then deactivated my aircraft and uninstalled DCS World 2.0. I then uninstalled DCS World 1.5. I thought I had removed all traces of both versions. I then installed DCS World 1.5 again. Exact same error. I see the logo and then get a black screen. I can hear the music playing but am stuck at this point. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
  18. After a while, I just got back into the KA-50. I installed DCS World 1.5. It was working. I then changed some configuration settings related to displaying on the second monitor. Now, when I start the program, I get the opening logo but then I get a black screen with music playing in the background. I assume that I have screwed up the resolution or another configuration but not sure how to get it working. I tried the "repair" option but it didn't help. I then uninstalled DCS World 1.5 and then did a clean install but that is not helping. Any idea if there are some configuration files I can delete to reset the game? Thanks.
  19. I have DCS World 1.5 installed. When I start the program, I get the opening logo but then I get a black screen with music playing in the background. 20. Thank you. Now I see why I want to have two versions of DCS World. To learn what I am doing in 1.5 and fly around the beautiful scenery in 2.0. I grabbed Chuck Owl's guide earlier today.
  21. Thank you so much for your very clear explanations. Downloading 1.5 now. Will Nevada work with 1.5 or does it require 2.0 Alpha?
  22. So if I have both 1.5 and 2.0 on my machine, will I use an extra activation for the modules (A-10c, BS2, and Nevada) to have them in both places. That is probably not an issue as I di have the space. I am trying to figure out the difference between DCS World 2.0 alpha and DCS 1.5 so see if it makes sense to keep both. Thank you very much for your assistance.
  23. Which means that I should uninstall DCS 2.0 and the associated aircraft, deactivating everything first and then install DCS 1.5 with the aircraft and the training materials?? Thanks.
  24. I just got back into Black Shark 2 after being away from the simulation for a while. I am running Windows 10 and installed DCS World 2.0. From within DCS World 2.0, I install A-10C, BS2 and the Nevada Terrain. From DCS’s website, I also downloading the Video Training files for BS2. When downloaded, these are .exe files. When I run them, I get an error message “DCS: Black Shark 2 not found”. My DCS location is not the default location but on a separate hard drive. I do not see any way to “unzip” the .exe files. If I start DCS World 2.0 and select “Training”, nothing appears for A-10C, Ka-50 and Su-25 modules. Ignoring the Video Training files I downloaded for a moment, is there no built-in training for the A-10C, Ka-50 and Su-25T? Is there any way to install the Video Training files I downloaded into DCS World 2.0? From some searches on the forums, it appears that the Video Training I downloaded was incorporated into the modules at some point but I am not seeing it. Is there any training materials for BS2 or A-10c that can be incorporated into DCS World 2.0 or is it all external like manuals and YouTube videos? Thanks for any help.
  25. Thanks all. Reinstalling the driver did not seem to help. I am going to program my X-52 inside of Blackshark and not worry about the Saitak software. It will help decrease my frustration level and allow me to actually spend more time playing the game that fighting the Saitek software. Again, for the price, I love my X-52; I just wish there was an alternate software than the Saitek software. Jerry
